A nine race card has been assembled for Rosehill this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:15) Drinkwise Plate 1100m
Really keen to see 7 Sancy (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) debut for the WaterBott stable. This filly has had two trials in readiness for start one, the latest coming last week at Wyong when just off the speed before being given clear air and when given a slap down the side by Tommy Berry, the response was instant and she looked impressive. Confident she measures up.
1 Hinchbeast (Bet Now: $2.60 TOP ODDS) looks a smart colt for Bjorn Baker that is having start two after debuting at the midweeks at this track/distance when showing sustained speed from the outset and recorded an impressive win in fast time relative to the meeting. Has gate one, early speed and will look the winner for a long way. More depth here though the query.
8 September Run (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) is a Chris Waller trained filly that is on debut. This girl has had just the one trial in readiness for start one, coming at Warwick Farm when leading all the way and while the time wasn’t the quickest of the morning, the tick for her is that she was pushed out and responded nicely. Off that trial, I think she needs to improve a touch, but she’s bred to be a good one.
Race 2. (13:50) Hyland Race Colours (bm70) 1800m
If he handles the seven day back up, 8 Convinced (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) is the best on the program. He was a real eye catcher two back in the Spring Stakes at Newcastle before coming back to 1500m last Saturday here and trying hard, but couldn’t quite ping when third to Orcein. Like him up to 1800m and provided he handles the quick turnaround, I think he wins.
2 Nordic (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) is a John O’Shea trained import who is a coming winner and that win could well come here. He ran over 2000m at Kembla two weeks ago where he was ridden cold from the tricky gate and given the scenario, Tommy rode a very good race but the pattern of the day was against him in the end when fourth to Mr Reckless. Has plenty of upside and is hard to beat.
4 Adana (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) is a bit of a bludger for Chris Waller, but he is racing in okay form without winning. Ran over 1900m last Friday night at Canterbury where J Mac rode him cold, looking for runs between runners, and was out in time I thought to win but was a bit one paced when third to Newtown Bluebag. Home track, hard fit…would love a drop of rain, but highly unlikely.
Race 3. (14:25) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1800m
I think he’s a bet here each way 9 Up The Stairs (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS). Would be great to see Terry Evans get a Highway win on the board after the nightmare he has had in recent times with the bushfires. This horse ran last week at Port Macquarie when contesting an Open Handicap and ran a beauty in defeat I thought when second to impressive winner Mister Smartee. Fitter, up in trip, and with a more conservative steer, he’ll take some beating.
1300m-1800m is the concern with 1 Gunga Din (Bet Now: $4.40 TOP ODDS) but it was hard to miss his run last week in the Federal at Canberra when back near last in the run and finishing off with absolute purpose late in the piece to run third to Levee Bank. 1600m-1800m is his distance range, but up from 1300m straight away looks the only knock.
7 Clergyman (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is flying for Lauren Davies. This gelding was a real eye catcher from the back two starts ago over the 1400m at Moruya before going to the Highway at Kembla two weeks ago when getting a suck run nearer the inside and working home strongly to run second to Sneak Preview. Up in trip I like and hopefully can sit nearer the tempo.
Race 4. (15:00) Graeme Ferris (bm78) 2000m
Found this a very tough race to sort out with confidence. Going with 1 Fun Fact (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) given he’s got more upside than most here. Ran over the mile at Kembla two weeks ago when slightly held up at times but when clear, he found the line pretty well when a close up fourth to Aqua D’Ivina. Has a very good record at 2000m+, upside, inside gate and anything Sam Clenton is steering at the moment has to be respected.
7 Dark Pearl (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) is another with upside and comes here off the back of an impressive win last Wednesday at Warwick Farm. Admittedly, he got the A1 run in transit, but still had to produce a sharp turn of foot to win, and he did under J Mac, winning well. He was a few weeks between runs there, so he’s got plenty of room for improvement.
I reckon 6 Guise (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is getting back on track. Jury was somewhat out earlier on in the prep, but the effort behind Dark Pearl last Wednesday was really good. She sat up on speed and despite being under pressure, seemingly gone, she lifted and was very game in defeat when second to the stablemate. Was also a few weeks between runs and her best is clearly good enough.
Race 5. (15:40) Bisley Workwear (bm72) 1500m
11 Starla (Bet Now: $3.20) has been a bit of a money muncher for punters throughout her career, but purely on her efforts, she’s going super. Gave them a spanking to break the maiden tag at Canterbury two back before racing last Wednesday at Warwick Farm when chasing the speed and tried hard, but Dorothy Of Oz was too good, and considering she ran just over 34 for the final 600m, Starla with 60kg and giving the winner a head start was a tough ask. Hard to beat here.
9 Pinup Miss (Bet Now: $6.50) is a progressive mare for John Ramsey and I think she can win again. Just got too far out of her ground two back at Muswellbrook behind Sparks before racing at Newcastle three weeks ago when sitting off a good speed before angling into clear and had full momentum when sprouting wings late to win narrowly but impressively. Harder here, but lot to like about the way she’s going.
6 Kedah (Bet Now: $15.00) is going super for Kris Lees and is a threat here. Ran over the Gosford mile last time out when hooked back to near last from the wide gate then was forced quite wide on the turn but loved the way she found the line when second to Condor. If she can sit that little bit closer in the run, she’ll take some beating against this lot.
Race 6. (16:20) Venue Mode (bm78) 1350m
I think 6 Lucicello (Bet Now: $2.40) can bounce back. Sharp first up winner over 1100m here before going to the 1200m at Kembla two weeks ago where she looked as if she was going to dash through between runners and win but couldn’t quite finish it off well enough when a close up fourth to Kylease. Back on her home track, hard fit now, I think she can bounce back.
Giving respect to 4 Word For Word (Bet Now: $4.00), who resumes for Chris Waller after a pretty good Winter prep, which saw her place at Stakes company at her past two, the second placing coming in the Gold Coast Bracelet when beaten narrowly by subsequent Oaks winner Winning Ways. Liked the way she went in a recent trial, gate one and love the booking of Nash.
5 Pumpkin Pie (Bet Now: $7.00) hasn’t won in a long time but I think the Freedman camp has this mare flying. Looked great in the yard before resuming at Kembla a fortnight ago and she ran right up to her looks with a close up third to Kylease, looming to win, but couldn’t quite finish it off. Think she’ll improve off that and I do think a win is near for her.
Race 7. (17:00) Elderton Homes (bm88) 1100m
I was on him at Kembla two weeks ago and he didn’t get a great deal of luck, so I’ll butter up each way with 2 Akasaki (Bet Now: $21.00) for Stephen Jones. Admittedly, he probably had his chance in the end, but early on in the straight, he didn’t really get clear air. Love the booking of Bowman, sits off a fast speed, and gets really good weight relief.
A fast run 1100m looks a good set up for 7 Taniko (Bet Now: $8.50), who resumes for James Cummings. The key to this girl is a dry deck and sitting off a fast speed so the weather forecast will determine her winning chances. She has a big finish on her and her two trials leading in have been more than encouraging to the eye, so keen to see how she goes.
6 La Tigeresa (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Jason Warren trained mare that is going super this time in. Lovely ride from Jamie Kah saw her win on Moe Cup Day two back before going to 1400m on Cup Day and loomed to win, looking home, until Teleplay got the inside split and dashed too well and won, beating this mare, and she won again. She’s flying this time in and will be strong at the end.
Race 8. (17:40) Schweppes (bm78) 1200m
Can easily make a case for 3 Poetic Charmer (Bet Now: $3.90), who had trialled up in very good fashion prior to resuming over 1200m at Kembla a fortnight ago where he was back in a slowly run race, and along with the track pattern for the day, he had no chance, but loved the way he found the line to run third to Trumbull. Fitter, he’ll take some beating.
9 Burning Crown (Bet Now: $2.10) is going great guns for Sue Grills and I think they’ve figured him out. Let him roll on speed without pressure. That saw him win three weeks ago at Newcastle when taken to the front by Collett, getting a cheap mid race breather, then dashing strongly late in the straight to win. Harder here, but he’s got the right racing pattern.
I think 10 I Am Capitan (Bet Now: $31.00) is an improver here. He comes through the Trumbull race from two weeks when first up, doing work from a wide gate to land on speed and that early burn just told on him, tiring to run fifth, but was far from disgraced in a pretty good return. If he can land near the speed without spending too many petrol tickets, he’ll run a positive race.
Race 9. (18:15) Rosehill Bowling Club (bm88) 1400m
4 Outrageous (Bet Now: $2.40) is flying for Team Hawkes. Sat on speed and gave them a spanking over 1300m here two back before going to Newcastle three weeks ago when solid in the betting and gee if you were on, it was such an ugly watch. Brock Ryan couldn’t get clear air on him and it was pretty much a barrier trial for the four year old. Better luck, he can win for sure.
3 Murillo (Bet Now: $4.80) has turned the corner for Team Snowden. Sustained speed saw him bolt up two back at Warwick Farm before being hard in the market at Newcastle three weeks ago when on speed and giving a really good kick but couldn’t quite fend off the finale of Into The Abyss. Now has positive form next to his name, two on the bounce, I think he can be trusted.
11 Mapmaker (Bet Now: $26.00) is a tough customer for Tim Martin and I think he’ll run a positive race here at odds. This veteran had a little freshen up prior to racing over 1400m at Rosehill four weeks ago where he was in a new role, sitting wide with cover, rather than sitting on speed, and he ran a positive race when second to impressive winner Sausedge. Repeats that effort here and he’ll run well.
