18/7/2026 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill, Winter Challenge day

Ten races have been set down for Rosehill on Saturday for Winter Challenge Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

11 Leonessa (Bet Now: $9.00) on top in the opener but not really a race I want to get involved in. She had two runs in the Autumn to start her career and wasn’t disgraced each time she stepped out. Given a good break, has trialled nicely and maps to get a soft trip.

5 Forest King (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Tom Charlton trained gelding that resumes after a two run Autumn prep, which saw him won on debut before a down the track effort in the Pago Pago. Given a good break, looks to have trialled well, leading contender.

8 Gatineau (Bet Now: $7.00) was an eye catcher when debuting two weeks ago here, sitting back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind his finale in defeat. Better for the run, extra 100m and is dangerous if he can settle closer.

13 Myriad (Bet Now: $5.50) just missed two weeks ago in the Midway, driving hard late when clear to just miss in a close three way photo. Extra 100m should be fine, he’s one of the hardest to beat against this lot.

18 Apache Breeze (Bet Now: $7.00) gets a run with quite a few horses coming out of the race. He has been racing well in some pretty competitive races and this one arguably looks weaker than those. He should get a good run from the barrier and sit just off midfield and be finishing hard late. Hard to hold out.

6 Harlex (Bet Now: $16.00) didn’t disgrace himself in the Midway two weeks back here. He got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Not sure I could back him to win but can run first four.

7 Dawn On Me (Bet Now: $7.50) seems suited at the short course and is flying at present. Gave nothing else a look in last time at the Sapphire Coast, leading throughout over 1000m. If she can stretch her brilliance to 1100m, she’ll take running down.

12 Kakoda (Bet Now: $4.20) just missed last time out at Scone. She has a good win record having won 2 from 4 and from the barrier she will get every opportunity to improve on it today. Looks the obvious danger here.

18 Dubbo Boy (Bet Now: $10.00) wasn’t too bad in the Highway two weeks back. He was back near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I really liked the way he finished his race off against the pattern. Back to a Class 2, more positive ride, he can win this.

9 Cheval De Bois (Bet Now: $3.80) meets a pretty similar field to what he last time out and he went very close to winning. He gets a bit of a weight allowance on Ballpark here who beat him at his last start. If they are coming wide by race 4 on the heavy then he will be very hard to beat as he will get back and run on.

8 Attractiveness (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented filly for Team Freedman who spanked them fresh at Newcastle before racing here when far from disgraced in defeat behind Hello Captain, who is Stakes class at least. Hard fit now, this girl appeals as a key chance.

5 Konsa (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing like 1500m suits. He’s had a few runs at 1400m now and each time has worked to the line pretty well, the latest at Rosehill a few weeks back when good late against the pattern. 1500m looks ideal and has room for improvement.

14 Le Troisir (Bet Now: $4.40) is one of the hardest to beat after his effort two weeks ago behind Anythink Goes. He got back, was forced wide to make the run but really liked the way he closed off. If he can settle closer, he’ll take holding out.

2 Sounds Unusual (Bet Now: $9.00) just got too far back in the Stayers Cup. He was never a winning threat, but he was solid late and did make up decent headway. Back to this sort of level, I say he’s dangerous against these.

7 Golden Century (Bet Now: $6.50) was sneaky good behind Anythink Goes two weeks back here. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up decent headway. Love the rise to 2400m…he’s a hard horse to catch but off last run, he’s in the mix.

3 Sword Of Legacy (Bet Now: $2.25) was backed as if unbeatable when racing three weeks back at Eagle Farm and the bets were landed, finishing best under a confident ride from Nash. Good test here but off last run, she’s in the mix.

10 West Of Dalby (Bet Now: $10.00) tried her guts out two weeks ago over 1100m here, but just had no answers for the finale of Big Red Tequila. The rise to 1200m should be fine and overall, I don’t see this race as overly deep.

2 Ticklebelly (Bet Now: $5.00) should jump on the bunny and run a beauty, as seen here several weeks ago when leading and she gave a bold sight from the front but was nabbed late by Bella Corazon. Good racing style, she’ll be around the mark.

4 Roselyn’s Star (Bet Now: $2.05) is hard to beat first up for Tom Charlton. He ended last prep on a high when taking out the Star Kingdom over 1200m here. He’ll be beaten for early speed I suspect but will motor late in what should be a fast run race.

2 Way To The Stars (Bet Now: $8.50) is a class sprinter when right. He last raced in the Takeover Target at Gosford and gave a big sight but the end of 1200m just found him out. Back to 1100m, he should lead and give an almighty sight.

1 Dragonstone (Bet Now: $8.50) was ridden too warm I thought at Flemington a few weeks back, sitting on speed but tired and felt the pinch late. Think with a bunny to chase, a more patient steer, he can run a much improved race.

7 Elouyou (Bet Now: $4.60) ran reasonably well at Caulfield last time out and makes the trip north for this race. She has won well at Rosehill before over a similar trip and I think with conditions to suit on a heavy track she will be right in the finish.

9 Gatsby’s (Bet Now: $9.00) is a hard horse for punters to catch but I think he has found a very winnable race here. He will need to overcome a wide barrier but on a heavy Rosehill in Race 8 I think they will be coming wide so an outside barrier may actually be a benefit. If he can run near his best he will be hard to beat.

14 Dollar Magic (Bet Now: $16.00) was solid late behind Dark Glitter two weeks back, closing strongly from off speed when fifth. Extra 100m should be fine and with luck in running, is capable of winning this at a price.

6 Punch Lane (Bet Now: $23.00) I think can break a bit of a duck here on a heavy track. He has been racing against some pretty good horses of late and hasn’t been disgraced. Clayton Douglas has taken him north for a reason and I think with a bit of luck and if he can put in one of his better performances he could win this at big odds.

10 McHale (Bet Now: $4.80) ran a closing second in the Winter Stakes a fortnight back, sitting off speed and worked home strongly when second to General Salute. Hard fit and rising to 1500m, he’s hard to beat if he can settle closer in the run.

11 Whichat (Bet Now: $16.00) led but weakened lat last time out. This looks a similar quality of race and he will have a bit more fitness on his side. He has performed well on a rain affected track so I think if he can get an easy lead he will be hard to run down if the bias is even or there is a leader bias.

I think you can easily make a case that 12 Columbia Blue (Bet Now: $2.35) should have won two weeks ago here but did plenty wrong and drifted out in the straight where the inside lanes were the spot to be when beaten a lip by Polyglot. Hard fit now, he clearly appeals.

13 Snack Bar (Bet Now: $4.50) is three weeks between runs since a track/distance placing where he got into a decent spot off speed and loomed to win but just couldn’t quite get the job done behind Ready To Shine. Frustrating horse but is knocking on the door.

9 Shropshire Lad (Bet Now: $14.00) doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but is certainly capable, as seen two back when a winner. He then ran over 1100m here two weeks back and was good against the pattern behind Polyglot. Like him up to 1200m, he’s dangerous here.

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 6 Punch Lane
