Ten races will be run and won at Rosehill on Saturday for January Cup Day. Weather is fine, track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:35) Bisley Workwear Handicap 1100m
4 Thyme To Go (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. She debuted two weeks ago at Randwick where she landed on speed and gave a strong sight from the front but had no answers late, nabbed near the peg by Knightsbridge. Good racing style and I think the extra 100m is fine.
2 Written In Munny (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Freedman trained colt that debuts. He’s had a couple of trials to get ready for start one and for the most part has been pretty good, the latest seeing him win here and moved well enough I thought. Bred to be handy, watch betting.
7 Long Throw (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Brave Smash that debuts for Ciaron Maher. She trialled at Rosehill behind Written In Mummy, running fourth, and didn’t move too bad I thought. Maps to do no work and bred to be strong late.
Race 2. (13:10) Tab Highway Handicap 1400m
10 Considered (Bet Now: $SP.00) can well and truly put her hand up for the Country Championships with a forward showing here. She resumed with a bang at Lismore, sitting just off speed before being clicked up and away she went. Very nice mare and fitter, up to 1400m, she clearly appeals.
3 Pensativa (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate getting to 1400m. Lou Mary trained mare that resumed in the Highway three weeks ago over 1200m at Randwick. She got off speed from a decent draw and was never really a factor behind Cougars. Like the rise in trip, good upside and is more than capable.
2 Tapa Kick (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran last to Cougars in the Highway three weeks back at Randwick when resuming. He settled near last and made up no headway, staying there in a plain return. Better set up here, fitter, can be included in exotics.
Race 3. (13:45) Midway Handicap 1200m
Amazing time that a Godolphin horse can be eligible for a Midway but they are the rules in place and with that, it is a clear on top selection for 6 Mother Goose (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Gary Portelli. She ran three weeks ago at Randwick when attempting to lead throughout and she gave a decent kick but had no answers late for Super Norwest. Good racing style and appeals big time back to this level.
5 Zoutastic (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Malcolm Cusick at Gosford when on speed throughout and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Iron Man. Looks to land near the front and will give a decent sight.
15 Vis I Do (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope for Anthony Warren. He ran over 1200m at Gosford last start when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Loving. Maps to do no work and be effective late.
Race 4. (14:20) Chandon Handicap 1100m
6 Zumbo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality filly for Team Cavanough that resumes after a two run Spring prep, where she placed in a Highway first up before a down the track effort in the Heritage. No public trials, but if she’s ready to go, she’s clearly hard to beat.
4 Lull (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained filly that had front end control on New Years Day at Canterbury and that was the difference between winning and losing, kicking hard when required to score. Good test here, but does appear to be a short course type so is suited here.
7 Lighthouse Lass (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a John Ramsey trained filly that resumes. She last raced in the Spring when down the track in the Reginald Allen behind Pinova, who looks a Group l talent. Liked a recent trial, I’d watch betting and see what it does.
Race 5. (14:55) January Cup 2000m
4 Touristic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the each way bet for me. I am convinced he is going well but just hasn’t been in races run to suit. He ran in the Christmas Cup on Boxing Day at Randwick when back near last in the run and did make up ground but was never really threatening. Hard fit, can settle closer, be effective late…happy to back each way.
2 Unspoken (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a real eye catcher in the Christmas Cup. He got back off speed and spotted those in front too much head start but did like the way he finished his race off in defeat when third to Tavi Time. If he can settle closer, he’ll take holding out.
3 Imperialist (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fourth in the Christmas Cup on Boxing Day. He got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and did try hard but just lacked any real change up speed when fourth to Tavi Time. Good upside to come, he’s in the mix.
Race 6. (15:30) Thank You Noel Cuthbert Handicap 1500m
4 Island Dream (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Chris Waller. She was down the track behind Alabama Fox two weeks ago at Randwick but the winner was very impressive in an on speed dominated affair and this girl just lacked any real change up speed. Hard fit now, she can run a much improved race.
3 Changing Colours (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Really caught the eye when a first up second here before going to Randwick two weeks ago when back in the run and did make up headway without threatening behind Miss Spacegirl. She is a key threat.
10 Callistemon (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found positive form and she can certainly go on with it. Jury was out after her first couple of runs but she ran really well four weeks ago at Randwick, closing with purpose late in the piece when third to The Mona Lisa. She is in here with a shout I say.
Race 7. (16:05) Ranvet Handicap 2400m
11 Placid Pearl (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it. She finished with real purpose nearer the inside two weeks ago at Ranwick, getting better as the race went on to win and win well. 2400m is ideal, she takes beating.
5 Forbidden Riff (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 2400m for Team Freedman after a win over 2100m at Gosford, where he made a sustained run from off speed and in a driving go finished best to score. His confidence is up, and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.
7 Bestower (Bet Now: $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Randwick. She just got too far back in the run and while she made up headway, she was never really threatening behind Callistemon. Tick over trial was pretty good and her best is good enough to win.
Race 8. (16:40) Kia Ora Bloodlines To Headlines Handicap 1300m
10 Rhapsody Chic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Freedman trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 12 at Caulfield when back and never a factor behind Home Rule. Four jumpouts under the belt for the return, that to me signals clear intent. Watch betting.
7 Step Aside (Bet Now: $SP.00) should take beating for Chris Waller after his effort two weeks ago at Randwick. He was wide no cover from gate three, somehow, yet still had the hide to keep chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Cool Jakey. If that hasn’t busted him, he’s one of the hardest to beat against these.
8 Junquiera (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran two weeks back at Randwick when third to stablemate Countyourblessings, settling off speed and worked home well late. She has found positive form and she can certainly go on with it here.
Race 9. (17:20) Asahi Super Dry Handicap 1100m
7 Bev’s Nine… (Bet Now: $SP.00) just how good is he? 3/3 for O’Shea/Charlton, his last run coming at Warwick Farm on Aug 20 when a narrow but impressive winner. Looks to have trialled up very well, he’s a yard/market watch.
1 Eye Of The Fire (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned really well for Team Archibald and commands respect. He resumed with a bang two weeks ago at Randwick, settling just off speed before being clicked up by Callan and he was strong to the line. Key threat.
11 Massira (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran down the track behind Eye Of The Fire at Randwick. He seemingly got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the race off. Not sure I could back him to win but is a must for exotics because his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 10. (17:55) Tab Handicap 1500m
7 Cross Tasman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is short enough but he does look a progressive horse for O’Shea/Charlton. Gave them a start and a beating to win at Randwick on Boxing Day, winning impressively and running solid enough time. Good test here but think he can measure up.
16 Hereward (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a purple patch for David Payne and is a key threat. He won over the mile two weeks ago at Randwick, settling just off speed before cutting back inside and he got better as the race went on. Back to 1500m is a query but will press forward, be strong and gets Ash Morgan back on.
15 Barbray (Bet Now: $SP.00) was too bad to be true last start at Wyong last Saturday. Whether it was the tight turning track, not sure. But, Waller on the seven day back up looks ideal and he has home track advantage.
