Race 1. (12:30) Midway (Bm72) 1200m
3 Mailata (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Bryce Heys trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Jan 10 at Wyong when placing over 1200m on Lakes Day. Trucked in a recent trial at Warwick Farm and he strikes a winnable race.
14 Jambalaya (Bet Now: $3.90) steps up to 1200m after racing over 1100m two weeks ago in the Midway at Randwick. He got into a decent spot just off speed and was there to win but in a blanket finish, he couldn’t quite finish the job. 1200m is a slight query but with the right run in transit, he’s dangerous.
16 Opal Fields (Bet Now: $61.00) is hit and miss but is capable. She was big big odds in the Midway two weeks back behind Bryant and while safely held I thought she was far from disgraced. Not sure she wins but she could pinch first four at odds.
Race 2. (13:05) Cactus Imaging (Bm78) 1900m
4 Tazima (Bet Now: $2.50) steps up to 1900m after racing over the mile at Warwick Farm last time where he was beaten by a couple of handy types in Decorum and Lancelot Du Lac, sitting off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. Like him up to 1900m and a tick over trial was good.
1 Nkosi (Bet Now: $13.00) was too bad to be true behind Mr Monaco at Randwick. He landed on speed and seemed to get a decent run in transit but tired badly to run last. He is hit and miss this guy bus his best is more than good enough to take this out.
7 Saint Emillion (Bet Now: $15.00) should take beating here after racing over the mile a few weeks ago at Randwick when second up and while he was safely held, he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Unleeshing. Hard fit and back miles in depth, he appeals.
Race 3. (13:40) Magic Night Stakes 1200m
I am not a believer of the hype re 3 Pembrey (Bet Now: $2.10) but I will concede she was unlucky in the Sweet Embrace. She was tight between runners and didn’t really get a chance to wind up into her work so I want to be forgiving. If she gets room to move here, which she should from the gate, she takes beating in what looks an awful race.
1 By Choice (Bet Now: $4.20) is a pocket rocket for GaiBott. She ran third in the Sweet Embrace when leading and giving a solid kick but just couldn’t quite see it through. Looks to land on speed/in front and takes running down.
4 Hardanger (Bet Now: $11.00) comes through the Sweet Embrace from two weeks back at Randwick. She got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and I thought was there to win but just couldn’t quite finish the job behind Spicy Miss. Has solid form around her, not dismissing.
Race 4. (14:15) Pago Pago Stakes 1200m
If 2 Warwoven (Bet Now: $2.60) was mine, I wouldn’t run and roll the dice on a start next week. But, it seems like he has to run/win here to safely assure a start. If he runs, he just wins. He’s the best two year old still this season I’ve seen to date that has raced and his run in the Skyline was very good given the ordinary set up. Drawn wide but will press forward and take a power of beating.
I was giving 8 Euripedes (Bet Now: $27.00) a big chance in the Silver Slipper but he was scratched. Instead, he resumed under the lights at Canterbury where he sat near the speed and was there to win but couldn’t quite get past Forest King. Better for the run and had trialled super prior.
Very interested in 12 Amazone (Bet Now: $71.00), a first starter for Chris Waller. I have eyes on him more so towards the Sires/Champagne. He is a nice looking colt that has had a couple of trials this time in to get ready for start one and each time has looked impressive, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 5. (14:50) Sky High Stakes 2000m
1 Vauban (Bet Now: $3.50) won this race last year. Interesting to see how he goes here given he is first up since the Melbourne Cup. He had a mixed Spring prep but was far from disgraced. His trial work has been so so but is a race day animal and has class on his side.
5 Wootton Verni (Bet Now: $2.60) is flying for Chris Waller. Loved the way he closed off in the Verry Elleegant, keeping on chasing without threatening behind Autumn Glow. Hard fit, 2000m and J Mac steers. Very likeable.
I am not penning 3 Just Fine (Bet Now: $10.00) yet. They rode him with a sit in the Parramatta Cup and he was okay without jumping up and down. I think he does race best when he leads so if that can eventuate here, he’ll run a much improved race.
Race 6. (15:25) Maurice Mccarten Stakes 1100m
3 Flying For Fun (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Bryce Heys trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since taking out the Starlight at this track/distance, which followed a game effort in the Champions Sprint. Looks to have trialled up very well for the return, watch betting.
9 Tonkin (Bet Now: $6.50) looked all over the winner when resuming here three weeks ago but just did that fraction too much work on speed and was nabbed on the peg by Kerguelen. Better for the run, good racing style, she appeals against these.
2 Kerguelen (Bet Now: $5.50) was a big winner first up at this track/distance three weeks ago, getting an all time ride by Hippo and drove hard late between runners to score. Likely spots them a start but will be very strong late and off the return, I say he’s right in the mix.
Race 7. (16:00) Phar Lap Stakes 1500m
1 Sixties (Bet Now: $1.55) looks the winner if he has petrol left in the tank. He was brilliant in defeat in the Australian Guineas. Ridden upside down to land forward, he tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite go with Observer late. Tricky draw, but he looks better than this lot.
10 Panova (Bet Now: $12.00) should be better for the first up run in the Surround where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never threatening, she did make up headway and was a definite pass mark. Fitter and up in trip, she’ll take beating against these.
6 Top Reward (Bet Now: $16.00) is one I can see finishing first four. He resumed behind Observer at Caulfield and while he had his chance, I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat. Not sure he is a horse I could back to win but can be entertained for exotics.
Race 8. (16:35) Coolmore Classic 1500m
14 Cilacap (Bet Now: $23.00) resumed a few weeks back in the Millie Fox at Rosehill. She got off speed and while she was never threatening, she kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Might want one more, but with good upside, she’s in the mix and worthy of an each way ticket.
6 Old Dancer (Bet Now: $7.00) was very good in defeat in the Surround two weeks ago. Ridden with intent to land on speed and she tried her guts out but lacked the quality of Tempted to go with her late when third. Hard fit now, right down in the weights, versatile re racing style, she’s a key chance for me.
8 Cinsault (Bet Now: $12.00) is a beauty for Michael Freedman. Credit to her in the Millie Fox, I thought Lazzura had her cold, but this girl had hard fitness, she fought hard and fended off Lazzura to win. Up to 1500m is a query but she has earned a crack.
Race 9. (17:15) Ajax Stakes 1500m
6 Lord Penman (Bet Now: $6.50) is three weeks between runs since a first up win over 1400m here, knuckling down with real purpose late to surge and get the job done. Good upside to come and he showed in the Spring he is well and truly up to this level. Keen despite the gate.
2 Militarize (Bet Now: $4.80) was very good late in the Liverpool City Cup when resuming. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing and was pretty good late when fourth. If he can be within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.
1 Globe (Bet Now: $6.00) is a class animal for Price/Kent that resumes. His last run came in the Might And Power where he upstaged fancier rivals in leading throughout under a peach from Shinn. He has looked very strong in trial work and there appears to be clear intent here.
Race 10. (17:55) Schweppes (Bm88) 1400m
12 Sovereign Hill (Bet Now: $7.50) has been kept on ice since Feb 14 at Randwick when attempting to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers for the finale of Amreekiyah. Tick over trial was good, he should find the top and take running down.
14 Modella (Bet Now: $3.40) is in the mix for Team Curtis. She resumed in the Millie Fox when outclassed on paper but she ran a beauty in defeat behind Cinsault. Much better suited at this level, she rates highly.
9 Glint Of Silver (Bet Now: $81.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. He ran fourth to Movin Out four weeks back at Randwick when leading and giving a decent sight but just felt the pinch. Good racing style, he’s one for exotics.
