Group l racing returns to Flemington this Saturday for Australian Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

2 Bossy Nic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Team McEvoy and has to be rated as one of the leading contenders. She ran two weeks ago at Caulfield where you can easily make a case to say she should have won but had zero luck in the straight, getting out late and driving hard to just miss. Loves the straight course and is the one to beat.

3 Pondalowie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Team Browne, having not raced since Feb 22 when a solid fourth at Caulfield behind Samangu, but did seem to have her chance. She has won down the straight before and the stable is absolutely flying at present.

5 Material Dreams (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing down the straight here where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat behind Pivot City. Her best is clearly good enough.

5 Amazake (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top in a pretty thin race. Son of Maurice that is on debut for Ciaron Maher off the back of extensive trial/jumpout work where for the most part, he has looked pretty good and is bred to eat up 1400m…on debut is interesting. But, this race is thin and he’s in the right camp.

1 Prestige Ole (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Briedoake/Jenkins since a maiden win at Ballarat where he gave them a start and a beating, producing quite a strong finale to score. He’s racing like 1400m suits and strikes a winnable race.

3 Aye Vee Aitch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m after racing over 1100m at Pakenham last Thursday where he got too far back in the run but his finale in defeat was pretty good. He was coming back in trip from 1300m on debut at Bendigo so back up in trip, he’s in the mix.

2 Eden Rose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after racing over 1400m in the Sires three weeks ago when off the speed and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was pretty good late in the piece. Back to this level, she appeals big time.

1 Befuddle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was a surprise but strong winner two back at The Valley before going to The Showdown where she led and gave a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by a good horse, McGaw. Back to her own sex, she appeals.

3 Eeteedee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in a two start career and commands respect. She was a strong debut winner on speed at Ballarat before going to The Showdown at Caulfield where she got a fair way out of her ground but was good late in the piece. She’ll be strong late and can win if within range.

1 Ndola (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance. He contested the Australian Guineas where he got too far back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was solid enough in defeat. Think with a more positive ride, he can be around the mark.

2 Athanatos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win. He comes through the Platinum Guineas from two weeks ago where he was held up at stages but was out in time to win, just finding one better in a good filly, Benagil. Racing like Flemington will suit and is one of the hardest to beat.

3 The Muffin Man (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the likely leader and will run an honest race. Tough maiden win at Sandown last time, leading throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and win. One for exotics.

1 Munhamek (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to Victoria after racing on Launceston Cup Day in the Hellova Street where he did seem to have his chance but was game as ever in defeat when third to Durazzo. He does have a real liking for Flemington and does have class on his side.

2 Nugget (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since resuming over 1400m here in the Shaftesbury Avenue where he was back near last in the run and made up some form of headway without threatening behind the in form Is It Me. Fitter and up in trip, class factor, he appeals.

11 Hellsing (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps back up in trip for Neasham/Archibald after racing over 1400m four weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground but kept finding the line and was a definite pass mark in defeat. Back up in trip this time around, he’s one of the contenders at odds.

7 Sans Doute (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket. She has been kept on ice since the Oakleigh Plate where it was pretty much a barrier trial for her and she was just never really a winning threat behind Jimmysstar. Loves the straight course and her recent jumpout win was sharp.

8 Pisanello (Bet Now:  $SP.00) Ia m giving respect to. He resumed in the Maurice McCarten two weeks ago when ridden off speed, quiet ride I thought, but I thought he worked home very well late in the piece behind Eagle Nest. Fitter and back to the straight, where he is proven, he rates highly.

6 She Dances (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land near the bunny and take running down. She ran two weeks back at Caulfield when first up over 1100m. She landed near the front and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Samangu. Better for the run under the belt, she appeals.

15 Vestas (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the potential to be a Group l horse so really keen to see how she resumes. She should have won the Red Roses on Oaks Day here. Then went to the Sunlight at the Sunny Coast where nothing went right behind Private Harry. That appears to be A1 form and her recent jumpout work has been very good.

3 Gatsby’s (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is suited back to this level after contesting the Newmarket when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly when down the track behind Joliestar. Much better suited against his own age, back miles in grade/depth, he can threaten.

2 Band Of Brothers (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks suited back to 1100m after racing in the Gold Dash two weeks ago. He was near the speed throughout and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through, tiring late behind Winnasedge. Back to the short course, more patient ride, he appeals.

Been hot on 8 Zardozi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) winning this race for a couple of months and won’t be dropping off her. She comes through the Peter Young where the ride from Melham aboard her was sleepy, spotting Jenni far too much head start and was never a factor when second. Hard fit now and 2000m, be within range, back to Flemington, she can bounce back.

7 Atishu (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks absolutely primed to rock and roll. She ran three weeks ago in the All Star Mile where the race shape wasn’t to her liking but she kept finding the line and was good in defeat. The rise to 2000m, Flemington, hard fit…she appeals.

3 Young Werther (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another look for Danny O’Brien. He comes through the Australian Cup Prelude where he pulled up lame so forgive and forget the run behind Middle Earth. He had jumped out like a rocket prior so not dismissing him.

9 Berkshire Breeze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks absolutely ready to rock and roll for Ciaron Maher. He ran in the Australian Cup Prelude three weeks ago where he looked all over the winner when presented but just felt the pinch, second up, behind Middle Earth. Hard fit, 2600m, I think good luck beating him, especially with a positive ride. Keen.

3 Deakin (Bet Now:  $SP.00), potentially, could have lengths on this lot. Just a matter of fitness levels given he hasn’t raced since Feb 21 when bolting up in the Torney Cup, which meant he would be an even money favourite for the Adelaide Cup, but those plans were shelved. He’s here, means business I think with a Cup start on the line and has to be respected. Just from a betting perspective, he’s on the short side.

10 Newfoundland (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Adelaide Cup when on speed and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to Silent Surrente. He’s a tough campaigner who will land near the front and keep chipping away.

6 Flying Mikki (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the get out. He hasn’t raced since the Bega Cup at the Sapphire Coast where he got back to near last on a day where those on speed were advantaged, so forgive and forget. Tick over jumpout was good, he’ll be strong and is drawn the right part of the track.

9 Wolfy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran third to Mytemptation a fortnight back. He got a fair way out of his ground but he was very good late to run third, beaten 1.5L. Good record down the straight and if within range, he can take this out.

14 Prinzerro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found positive form and he can certainly go on with it for Phillip Stokes. That positive form came three weeks ago down the straight here when off the speed but worked home with purpose late in the piece behind Mytemptation. That form does appear to read quite well for this.
