Race 1. (12:32) Grand Syndicates Hcp (68) 1100m
3 Spin The Reward (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has come back in really good order for Peter Hardacre. He was ridden close and battled away well enough in defeat fresh at Penola before racing here two weeks ago where he got back, wide with cover, before angling to clear air and was very good in defeat behind Prairie Flower. If he can settle closer in the run, he’s the one they have to beat.
4 The Great Baby (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. Peter Hardacre trained gelding that has finished runner up in both runs this time in, resuming over 1200m on Adelaide Cup behind Prairie Flower before bumping into that horse again a fortnight back after doing work on speed. More economical run in transit, he takes beating I’d suggest.
11 Wally West (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Jon O’Connor trained gelding that resumes. He is first up after a three run Autumn prep where he was good each time without winning. He can be a frustrating horse to follow but his recent trial win at Balaklava was very good and his best is more than good enough to take this out. Watch the market.
Race 2. (13:07) Breeders' Stakes 1200m
7 Karavas (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks one of the hardest to beat. Team Jolly trained filly that resumed three weeks ago in the Dequetteville where she got off the speed and got to the outside, winding up with purpose but just found one better in Lincolnshire. Like her up to 1200m and with the run under the belt, she appeals.
1 Growing Empire (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Ciaron Maher. He comes here several weeks between runs since an all the way win in The Valley Pearl, leading throughout and he was strong to the line in winning. The debut run in Sydney was very good, he improved for the second run…he’s a clear threat against this lot.
8 Pure Aqua (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a nice filly for Team Jolly and should take beating against these. This filly was a strong winner of the Without Fear two weeks ago, admittedly getting the A1 run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and she was dominant late in a good win. 1200m looks no issue and she only has to hold her form to be around the mark again.
Race 3. (13:42) Chairman's Stakes 2000m
2 Bold Soul (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a bit on these surely. He looks the SA Derby horse and resumed in the Port Adelaide Guineas two weeks ago, getting a mile back off the speed and was never a winning threat, but I really liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Air Assault. Fitter, up to 2000m, can settle closer (I think)…good luck beating him.
3 Warmonger (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented animal for Price/Kent that appeals. This guy did more than enough when resuming at Pakenham before going to the Port Adelaide Guineas where he was there to win and kept chasing, just missing out on picking up Air Assault. Like him up to 2000m and hard fit, he appeals.
8 Mercante (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to be a key chance. He has had two runs back from a spell for Nigel Blackiston. He caught the eye fresh at Bendigo over the mile before going to 2000m at Ballarat where he wasn’t quite as dynamic but was solid in defeat. Hard fit, has the 2000m run under the belt…knockout hope.
Race 4. (14:17) John Hawkes Stakes 1100m
9 Extremely Lucky (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very, very interesting runner. He’s back with Clarken/O’Shea after a stint with Chris Waller, where he was touted as an Everest horse but he didn’t measure up at all. Back home in SA, his trial last week at Balaklava was very good and first up at 1200m, tells me there is intent with a chance of a Goodwood start up for grabs. I think he’s here ready to go.
6 What You Need (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has the engine under the hood to spank these. Just a matter of where he is at. He resumed in the Bob Hoysted down the straight at Flemington and was a definite pass mark in defeat when third to Sans Doute. Good improvement to come and off what he did as a 3YO, he could be a Group l horse. Just a query of what the injury and time off has taken away from him.
14 Press Down (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a beauty for Peter Hardacre and appeals against these. He resumed a fortnight back in the Irwin when thrown in the deep end and I thought he ran a very credible race in defeat, sitting on speed and was there to win but couldn’t quite get there when third to Benedetta. Better for the run, like him up to 1200m, hard to beat.
Race 5. (14:52) Tobin Bronze Stakes 1200m
This is where you use the KISS theory: Keep It Simple Stupid. You can look wider for an angle, or you can just look at the obvious and say, yep, he’s a good thing, and 1 Arkansaw Kid (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) does look a good thing. His two runs back from a spell, first up ran second to the Sangster favourite Estriella, and then in the Arrowfield Sprint, he was luckless and close up in defeat behind a star filly, Joliestar. Barring bad luck, he has lengths on this lot.
6 Great Maximus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another chance for Team Jolly. Loved the way he let down to win fresh at Oakbank before racing two weeks ago here where he was run off his legs and did make up ground but was never a winning threat behind Sir Sway. Hard fit now at 1200m, if he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take holding out.
4 Sir Sway (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Team Jaensch and has to be given respect. He did have the A1 run in transit in the Redelva but credit to him, he took advantage of it and was strong to the line in winning in a pretty good display. Up in trip again, he’s a winner, genuine…not dismissing him.
Race 6. (15:27) Queen Of The South Stakes 1600m
I am really keen on 3 Foxy Frida (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). She saves her best for this Carnival and looks to be clearly set for it after a frustrating Sydney raid where she was good on a shifty track in the Coolmore Classic. She then went to the Golden Mile at Bendigo where she had little luck at a vital stage but she was very good late. Campionessa looks a tired horse, Seonee at a strong mile? Grinzinger Belle no, Lady Jones rises big time in grade/depth…I just think with a stack of speed engaged, I want to be on the strong horse and she is that. Think she’s a great bet.
18 Legacies (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a ripping filly for Moody/Coleman that commands respect. She beat the Mares at Caulfield a few weeks ago, leading throughout and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and win. Hard fit and in form, she appeals.
14 Silent Surrente (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Clarken/O’Shea and rates as the one to beat for mine. Lot of quality about her performance two weeks ago in the City Of Adelaide, getting back near last in the run and against the race shape, she was very good late when third to Chicago Storm, who led throughout and was dominant. Fitter, up in trip, back to Mares grade…keen.
Race 7. (16:07) Australasian Oaks 2000m
Chris Waller had several nominated for this race but goes with the sole rep in 11 Concello (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) and J Mac steers, so the intent is there for all to see and the run in the Adrian Knox is there to see. She got back and was very good late in the piece without threatening behind Good Banter. If she can use the gate and settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
1 Pulchritudinous (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Former Kiwi that makes her Australian debut for GaiBott. This girl last start bolted up in the NZ Oaks and gee she was dominant late when asked for the big effort by Kennedy. Now with GaiBott, Randwick trial was solid enough and she’ll be stronger than most at the end.
5 Queen Of Dragons (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the map horse and she does have the quality form given she ran fourth in the Vinery Stud at Rosehill when near the speed and she trued her guts out. Just lacked the class to go with them late in the piece behind Orchestral, who would be $1.50 against these. Maps perfect, gets D Lane, strong late…likeable.
Race 8. (16:42) Robert Sangster Stakes 1200m
12 Estriella (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) does look to pick herself I feel. Star filly for Ciaron Maher that comes here off the back of a couple of outstanding wins down the Flemington and looks every bit a Group l sprinter. Jumpout last week at Cranbourne was great, comfortably looking better than I Am Me and for mine, she wins this and stamps herself as The Everest favourite. I’d be taking the $11 for The Everest before this race.
4 Benedetta (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is bursting to win a Group l…could it come here? She was a strong winner of the Irwin two weeks back where she was too good for them, aided by a lovely steer from Stackhouse. She ran super in the Newmarket, albeit an ordinary Newmarket, but Mares grade, set for the race, she appeals.
5 Roots (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very good mare for Chris Waller that looks primed to run well. She resumed four weeks ago in the Star Kingdom at Rosehill and was very good against the pattern, working home with real purpose behind Bandi’s Boy. Fast run 1200m looks ideal, good upside, she’ll be strong at the end…one of the leading threats.
Race 9. (17:20) Thomas Farms Hcp 1600m
3 Mr Maestro (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile. Andrew Forsman trained four year old that resumed over 1400m at Caulfield three weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground but did find the line with purpose and was quite good in defeat behind Here To Shock. Fitter and up in trip, good upside to come, rates highly.
1 Chicago Storm (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented animal for David Aldridge that comes here off the back of a Stakes win, leading throughout at Morphettville to win the City Of Adelaide two weeks ago where she led all the way and was dominant from the front. I think with a more patient steer, he will be more effective I feel and can win again.
2 Pudding (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can run an improved race for Team Jolly. He ran a fortnight back in the City Of Adelaide where he got too far back in the run and did make up ground but was never a factor behind Chicago Storm, who dominated from the front. Think with a more positive ride, this guy can threaten for sure.
