13/10/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Caulfield, Thousand Guineas day

The Caulfield Carnival continues on Wednesday with an eight race card, headlined by the Group l Thousand Guineas (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

4 Dark Rebel (Bet Now: $7.00) is capable if he produced somewhere near his best. I think back to this level is a big tick for him. He was working up to something positive but the Gloaming run was quite disappointing. Back to the mile with Olly steering, an improved showing is definitely on the cards and his form just reads super compared to this lot.

1 Rhinoceros (Bet Now: $4.40) will put himself on speed and try hard. Lovely front running steer from Childs saw him win at the Valley last time out. Controlled things in front and kicked strongly when required. He looks like he will find the front again and look the winner for a fair chunk of the race.

3 Cheerful Moment (Bet Now: $4.80) should have no trouble with the mile. Was on him at the big odds last time out at Flemington. No turn of foot when presented but stayed on, surged hard late between runner and just missed out on the win behind Cuban Link. If he handles the distance rise, he’ll take beating.

I think 2 Duais (Bet Now: $7.50) can bounce back hard. Very good return in the Cameron at Newcastle before going to the Hill Stakes where to the eye, she was plain, but given the race shape, she had no chance and really, her run had merit. If the rain comes, big tick for her and she has class, the runs on the board and upside.

3 Floating Artist (Bet Now: $1.75) needs to win this to get into the Caulfield Cup. Scratched from the Herbert Power in preference for this, whether that is a lead or not, not sure, but he’s a very progressive animal and is regarded as a serious threat to Incentivise should he win this and make the Caulfield Cup field. Extremely hard to beat here.

8 Zayydani (Bet Now: $10.00) is a knockout chance. Team Hayes trained mare that I think has returned in good order. She ran third to Floating Artist at Sandown last time, making up good ground from off the speed. Hopefully can use gate one to advantage and run an improved race.

The aim for Highclere Racing was to get 1 Durston (Bet Now: $10.00) to a Melbourne Cup. He won’t be getting there, but I think he will be winning races in Australia. The Aussie debut came at Flemington over 2000m and was good late from the back behind a very progressive horse, Hosier. Break between runs is the interesting factor but he looks very much above average.

4 Mankayan… (Bet Now: $4.60) how good is he? Is he a Stakes class horse, or is he a benchmark horse? I think we’ll get a good guide to that question here. Like most, was keen on him last start at Kembla and he was very disappointing I thought after seemingly getting every chance behind the speed. Freshened up, I think his best is good enough.

11 Token Spirit (Bet Now: $18.00) is a talented stayer for the Griffiths/De Kock team that resumes. They realised he wasn’t quite up to being a Cups horse, so they’ve lowered the aims for him this Spring/Summer. Has residual fitness, so he should be okay fresh at 2000m and is the proven city performer here. He’s a winning threat.

2 Smokin’ Romans (Bet Now: $3.50) has been kept on the fresh side for the Maher/Eustace camp. Tick under two months between runs since bolting up at the Valley, making it two wins on the bounce over 2500m at that track. Not sure what plans they have in mind for this horse, but he’s talented and stable always have to be respected.

The key to 9 Rudimental (Bet Now: $16.00) is dry ground. He has found a purple patch in recent times, with the key being getting away from the rain and wet tracks. The query is the forecast for Wednesday. Significant rain is forecast for the day, so that’s the knock because he hates getting his feet wet, but he’s a horse in form.

4 Royal Crown (Bet Now: $23.00) is certainly capable. Mick Kent trained gelding that resumed over 1800m at Sandown and to the eye, it was a nothing, but breaking it down, his run was good given the race shape was against him. Jumps straight to 2400m, but can settle much closer in the run and be dangerous.

11 Good And Proper (Bet Now: $6.50) is sneaky flying I think. This mare was very good late fresh behind the very much in form Turaath. She then raced here again and didn’t set the world on fire behind Annavisto, but had no chance given the race shape. Better suited here and can take this out.

13 Agreeable (Bet Now: $5.00) is a talented mare for Team Freedman that looks to have returned well. Resumed over 1300m at Bendigo when back near last in the run and took a while to wind into her work but was very good late when second to Flying Mascot. Fitter and up in trip, she appeals.

9 Frankie Pinot (Bet Now: $4.20) will need luck from the draw but he’s going really well for the McEvoy camp. Ran over 1400m at Sandown last time out. Dragged back from the wide gate and was never really a winning threat, but loved the way he found the line behind Sirileo Miss. If he gets luck, he’ll be hard to hold out.

Gate one could be tricky for 4 Port Louis (Bet Now: $10.00), but he’s a very good colt. To my eye in the Autumn/Winter, he looked an ideal Caulfield Guineas/Cox Plate three year old for the Spring, but the stable are keeping him to sprint trips with an eye towards the Coolmore. His resumption at the Valley behind Minsk Moment was full of merit and from gate one, he’ll only run well I suggest.

8 Minsk Moment (Bet Now: $4.20) is fast becoming one of the top seeds for the Coolmore off what he has done to date. It was such a sharp win first up at the Valley. Overcame difficulty and let down with purpose to win and win impressively against a line up which had depth. He’s got more to come and is hard to beat.

6 Ranveer (Bet Now: $19.00) is a query at 1200m but if on speed/rail is the spot to be, he could come right into play. Resumed with a second here to General Beau before a down the track effort in the Danehill. Draws wide, but has good early toe, so I think he can come across and perhaps sneak a first four spot.

10 Barb Raider (Bet Now: $6.00) is the map horse. This girl is starting to put together a strong record. Heading towards the Oaks and earned her ticket into that via the Oaks Trial win. Connections paid the late entry for this, she maps to get an A1 run in transit and a truly run mile will be no issue for her with the 1800m run under the belt.

2 Hinged (Bet Now: $4.00) brings the best form into this. Chris Waller trained former Queensland filly that has had two runs for the stable. Messy first run in the Dulcify before going to the Flight Stakes and you could make a case to say she should have won had she jumped cleanly, running a narrow second to Never Been Kissed, who ran so well on the weekend in the Spring Champion. That form reads well for this.

1 Swift Witness (Bet Now: $13.00) will put herself on speed and give her all. That was the case in the Flight Stakes when attempting to lead throughout and she ran her usual honest race when fourth to stablemate Never Been Kissed. 1600m is a query with her, but she’s in the right camp with the right racing pattern.

4 Foxy Frida (Bet Now: $17.00) should love the rise to the mile for Andrew Noblet. Resumed over 1400m at Sandown where she got a fair way back in the run but liked the way she finished her race off behind Sirileo Miss. Narrow second at 1700m at the end of last prep, so the mile here should be fine and has more upside than most.

Don’t need a genius to figure out that 1 Only Words (Bet Now: $7.50) should have won the Stocks Stakes at the Valley. Yes, I was on, and gee it was a hard watch. She was absolutely trucking in the run and just didn’t get a clear air until it was too late. Better luck this time around and she can win.

9 Sirileo Miss (Bet Now: $2.80) is a progressive mare for Symon Wilde that can keep winning. Looked in a bit of trouble at Sandown last time out but loved the way she knuckled down under pressure and was too good late in a strong performance. Heading in the right direction and no reason why she can’t make it three on the bounce.

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 11 Good And Proper
