Three-time Group 1 winner Jimmysstar is expected to resume his autumn campaign in strong fashion when he lines up as the market favourite in Saturday’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Caulfield.
The six-year-old gelding returns after a successful spring preparation that included a third-place finish in The Everest before victories in the Russell Balding Stakes and the C F Orr Stakes.
His return to the track will also play an important role in the Australian sires’ premiership race, with Jimmysstar helping boost the standing of his New Zealand-based sire Per Incanto.
Prepared by Ciaron Maher, Jimmysstar currently heads betting for the William Reid Stakes at around $1.90, ahead of Yulong stallion prospect Angel Capital at $6 and in-form sprinter Jigsaw at $8. Jigsaw produced a dominant front-running display to win the Vobis Gold Sprint at Caulfield last Saturday by 3.5 lengths.
Per Incanto, who stands at Little Avondale Stud, currently sits sixth on the Australian sires’ premiership table with $11.388 million in progeny earnings for the season, trailing four-time champion sire Snitzel by approximately $5.2 million.
Jimmysstar alone has contributed $4.53 million towards Per Incanto’s Australian earnings this season.
