Whether Jimmysstar lines-up in the highly anticipated All-Star Mile at Caulfield on March 16 hangs in the balance, with the talented galloper’s involvement far from assured.
Having recently faced his first Stakes test at Flemington on February 17, Jimmysstar experienced an unexpected defeat as he was ridden from the front for the first time. The outcome, in which he was beaten by the $151 outsider Makram, left a notable impact on the emerging contender, according to managing part-owner Ozzie Kheir.
“Following his last start, he felt the run, prompting us to take a cautious approach,” Kheir explained. “Consequently, he’s had a calm week with activities like swimming, and he’s in good condition.”
However, a definitive decision regarding Jimmysstar’s participation in the All-Star Mile is yet to be made, with Kheir stating, “We’ll make the call over the next 48 hours as to where he’s going. There’s the option of getting him up to Sydney for a run that could potentially lead him into a Doncaster Mile.”
As Jimmysstar continues to be carefully managed, it is unlikely that he will be competing in Saturday’s Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington, deviating from the initial plans that had been in place.
