Former top-class three-year-old Elliptical has returned to Australia and joined the Chris Waller stable.
Previously trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Elliptical’s career peak came with victory in the Group 3 C.S. Hayes Stakes in 2023. A year earlier he went agonisingly close to elite success, finishing runner-up in both the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes.
After a sixth in the 2023 ATC Australian Derby, Elliptical was sold to Hong Kong and raced eight times at Sha Tin without placing, prompting his return to home soil.
News of Elliptical’s comeback coincides with movement the other way: a group of 18 horses, headed by this year’s Alister Clark Stakes winner Shanwah, arrived in Hong Kong from Australia earlier this week to continue their careers.
Meanwhile, outstanding sprinter Ka Ying Rising is slated for his first barrier trial of the preparation on Friday as the David Hayes-trained star builds towards a trip Down Under to target The Everest on October 18.
