Three-time Group 1 winner Militarize is preparing for a return to racing after his stud career was prematurely ended due to fertility issues.
Despite standing at a stud fee of $38,500, only a small number of mares were confirmed in foal, prompting his retirement from breeding.
The gelding, trained by Chris Waller, has an illustrious career with victories in the Golden Rose, Champagne Stakes, and Sires’ Produce Stakes, earning $2.5 million.
His last race was a third-place finish in the G1 Doncaster in April, following a strong autumn campaign with four G1 placings.
Militarize has been gelded to refocus on racing and is thriving in pre-training.
“He’s thriving and has settled into pre-training really well, and he is going back to Chris Waller in a few weeks’ time to target the back end of autumn and into the winter.” said Henry Field, Managing Director of Newgate Farm.
“He retired from racing sound and clean-winded… the only risk, I suppose, is has he enjoyed breeding a few mares and whether his mind is on the job?”
With optimism surrounding the Dundeel sire line’s ability to improve with age, hopes are high for Militarize’s racing future.
