Henry Dwyer has elected to chase black-type at Scone with Tropezina rather than stay in his own backyard for a race at Caulfield.

Tropezina was a dual acceptor for Saturday’s Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes at Scone and the Le Pine Funerals Handicap at Caulfield.

Both races are restricted to three-year-old fillies over 1100m with the Scone contest holding black-type status.

“The Scone race doesn’t look a harder race and the added bonus is there’s a bit of black-type involved,” Dwyer said.

“With fillies it’s pretty important to get that black-type, whether it’s Scone or wherever you have to go.

“She’s drawn well to get a good run on pace and we’ve got a good rider so there’s a few positives.

“The negative is the travel involved.

“We’ve had to go to Sydney and then up to Scone, another few hours on race day.

“It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a bit tougher than racing in your own backyard at Caulfield.”

Tropezina will be second-up after being freshened on Saturday.

Dwyer said he was expecting improvement from the filly who was underdone when 10th over 1100m at Caulfield on April 20.

“She only got beaten 4-1/2 lengths and I think she’s got two or three lengths improvement in her,” Dwyer said.

“I thought the Caulfield race, with the exception of Propelle, was a bit weaker than her first-up race and I think the Scone race is no harder.

“Plus the black-type is there, so we’ll try and chase it.”

Dwyer is no stranger to Scone racing, with Snitty Kitty running second in the same race in 2017 before going to the Gold Coast to win the Lightning Stakes.

“This race was Snitty Kitty’s introduction to black-type racing,” Dwyer said.

“I don’t think Tropezina is that level but she’s got a similar style and should give herself every chance.”
