The Showdown is worth $1,000,000 in prize money and will be held at Caulfield Racecourse each year. The inaugural 1200m event is set to take place in April 2019 and is set to become one of Melbourne’s premier races for two-year-olds.
The race is run exclusively for progeny of VOBIS Sires’ nominated stallions and boasts a total prize pool of $1,000,000 making it an attractive target for local gallopers and visitors from interstate.
The 2019 The Showdown will be run on Owners and Breeders Raceday at Caulfield Racecourse in April 2019.
The race was named after Australian champion and Victorian-based stallion Showdown who stood at Stockwell Stud between 1966 and his retirement in 1983.
It’s expected that 800 to 900 yearlings will be eligible to nominate for The Showdown in 2019.
