The flagship day of Sydney’s spring carnival will be held a week later this year as part of several changes to the new season racing calendar.
The Epsom Handicap meeting, usually held on the Saturday of the Labor Day long weekend, will be a week later at Randwick on October 6.
Crowd capacity at Randwick will be limited due to redevelopment work although the infield area will be utilised as it was in the autumn.
The Australian Turf Club (ATC) confirmed the Stan Fox Stakes would headline the race meeting on September 29 – the Saturday of the long weekend – and be held at Rosehill.
In a switch, the Melbourne Cup day meeting – one of Sydney’s most popular – has been moved from Randwick to Rosehill while the picnic program usually held at Rosehill on Cup day will be run at Randwick.
The ATC confirmed the fixed dates for the 2013 Sydney autumn carnival would remain with the Golden Slipper on April 6 before Derby Day kicks off the three-week Randwick carnival on April 13.
The club has increased general admission prices for its flagship days but countered that with a $199 season pass for regular racegoers.
In addition, a $99 off peak season pass will give general entry to non-carnival meetings plus seven feature meetings during the year.
