Black Caviar is currently the $1.30 favourite to win Saturday’s 2011 Newmarket Handicap and trainer Peter Moody feels the only danger for the unbeaten mare is the weather with Melbourne expected to get heavy rain during the week.
Super star mare Black Caviar will be looking to hit double figure wins and remain unbeaten in Saturday’s Newmarket Handicap at Flemington racecourse and the current market reflects how confident punters are that she will take out the race worth $1million dollars as she is currently $1.30 with the Victoria TAB.

Trainer Peter Moody is upbeat with his mares chances and feels only the unpredictable Melbourne weather can stop her “She’s come along well and in very good order,” he said. ”The weather looks the only factor that will stop her running.” Black Caviar will need to carry 58kg if she is to continue her unbeaten record, the weight is 1.5kg more than her opposition with main rival Hay List carrying 56.5kg a 3.5kg turn around from when they met in the Lightning Stakes.
Although even with such a large turn around in weight it is hard seeing a turn around in finishing positions with the daughter of Bel Esprit winning the Lightning Stakes by over 3 Length’s eased down.
But opposing trainers must not accept defeat before the race and John Mcnair will be making sure Hay List has no excuses on Saturday ”I’m bringing in the chiropractor tomorrow just to go right over the horse. ”I just want to make sure there is no excuses from my end. My bloke will be as good as I can have him and as usual the horse will head south on Thursday.” he told The Age
Moody has nominated 9 runners for the race but is likely only to accept with Black Caviar and last start stable debutante Hinchinbrook telling The Age ”Jason Maskiell will ride Hinchinbrook at 50 kilograms but as to whether we’ll have another runner, we’ll just wait and see,” Moody said. ”Panipique might run and so might Master Harry but there are other options for them as well.”
Forecasts suggest Melbourne will receive showers Tuesday through til Thursday, although at this point it is noted they will only be showers and with Flemington’s world class drainage system it is unlikely the amount of rain forecast will hamper the unbeaten mares chances of starting in the race.
