Race 1. (11:43) The Phoenix 1500m
4 Influential (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a well bred youngster I have plenty of time for and he needs to win this to get into the JJ Atkins next week. Confident he can. He ran several weeks ago in the Ken Russell at the Sunny Coast where nothing went right for him from the outset and it ended up being an ugly watch. The debut at Warwick Farm was super and he looks like a horse that will eat up 1500m.
6 Zimo (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to 1500m. He was a real eye catcher on debut over 1100m at Warwick Farm when third before going to the Ken Russell where he again got a mile out of his ground but really liked the way he found the line late in the piece. He’ll love the extra distance, and if he is able to settle closer in the run, he’ll be quite dangerous.
9 Azula (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. Did more than enough on debut at Warwick Farm before going to the Kenso where they rode her with intent, leading, and she gave nothing else a look in, winning impressively and running decent time. Stable are just starting to find their groove in recent weeks and this girl has the right racing pattern to give herself every chance.
Race 2. (12:18) Sen (Bm90) 1810m
13 Bellatrix Black (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been teasing tow in a race since arriving from New Zealand and it can easily come here. She ran two weeks back in the Pam O’Neill and didn’t quite get the rub of the green. She wasn’t going to win but should have finished much closer behind Frumos. Bigger track, hopefully gets clear air this time, and she can certainly launch at them late.
8 Rousseau (Bet Now: $SP.00) will love getting to Eagle Farm. His recent runs have come at Doomben and while he has been solid, he has looked like a horse that wants a big track and a long straight to wind up, which is what he will get here, and the run two weeks ago was his first run in four weeks so he has good room for improvement. Hard to beat.
12 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well for Chris Waller and is a key chance. He ran two weeks ago at Doomben where he got back off the speed and in a sit/sprint, he found the line well enough I thought when fourth to Drive A Deel. Think the bigger track will help his cause and with a more positive ride, he is certainly dangerous against this lot.
Race 3. (12:53) Stradbroke Calcutta 8/6 (Bm85) 1200m
6 Hellfest (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for James Cummings after racing last Saturday in the Helen Coughlan where nothing went right for her and I think you can make a case that with clear air, she wins the race instead of a close up sixth to Comrade Rosa. Back to benchmark grade, hard fit now, she is certainly good enough to take this out.
4 Shaquero (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained four year old that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Jan 21 at Randwick when down the track in the Carrington behind the then in form Cuban Royale. Just one soft trial leading in and drawn tricky, but he is a good horse when right and with a drag into the race, he’ll be effective.
2 Sir Warwick (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Jake Capewell since racing over 1200m at Doomben where he was just behind the speed throughout and battled on pretty well in defeat behind a smart animal, Arentee. They have been riding him with a sit this time in but for me, I think he’s a much better horse when rolling on speed, so if that can eventuate, he’ll take running down.
Race 4. (13:28) Lightning Hcp 1000m
1 Athelric (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the straight bat option. James Cummings trained gelding that is a few weeks between runs since taking out the Ortenisa at Scone and yes, somewhat lucky to win given how stiff Quantico was, but right place right time for Athelric and he was too good, just. Maps to get run of the race and the depth, as a whole, isn’t deep.
4 Mishani Sniper (Bet Now: $SP.00) is absolutely flying for Les Ross and is one of the hardest to beat. Narrow second to Richon at this track/distance two back before going to the Chief De Beers at Doomben two weeks ago, settling just off the speed before being presented clear air and let down hard to win narrowly but impressively I thought. Back to 1000m no issue and hard to knock the way he’s going.
3 Simply Fly (Bet Now: $SP.00) will love a fast run 1000m so I wouldn’t be dismissing him. He ran two weeks back in the Chief De Beers where he was snagged back from the wide gate and just couldn’t get involved, running last behind Mishani Sniper. That was his first run since Feb 11 so he has good room for improvement and back to a fast run 1000m, look for him to launch late.
Race 5. (14:03) Magic Millions Ntl Classic 1600m
2 Foxy Frida (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Andrew Noblet. They tried her out in trip when last in work but are they thinking she is a miler? Her last couple of runs have at the mile, the latest run seeing her win the R A Lee two weeks back at Morphettville where she looked a moral on paper and duly saluted despite a few nervous moments. Think she’s hard to beat back to Mares grade.
10 Princess Rhaenys (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win and I think she gets a great chance here. She was a real eye catcher fresh at this track/distance before going to the Pam O’Neill two weeks ago at Doomben and she was very good from the back when second to Frumos. Hard fit now, can settle closer in the run and she’ll still be effective late if that eventuates. Keen on her running well.
11 Osmose (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a similar boat to most here, likely waiting for the Tatts Crown on Tiara Day, but she is an imported mare that has upside, progression, and heading in the right direction. She ran in the Pam O’Neill and was very good from the back behind Frumos, beaten under a length. Can settle much closer in the run and has more upside than most.
Race 6. (14:38) Spear Chief Hcp 1500m
3 Military Expert (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks beautifully placed here. Just found the track too wet at Randwick fresh behind Tamerlane before going to The Coast at Gosford and ran a much improved race when third to impressive winner Palmetto. Reckon a firm deck, hard fit, 1500m, good gate, depth not overly deep…I think he’s one of the best across Australia for Saturday. Keen.
10 Brigantine (Bet Now: $SP.00) has got a win on the board and he can certainly go on with it for James Cummings. He got the confidence boost at Doomben two weeks ago, finding a very moderate Class 3. Orman rode him like he was a moral and he duly saluted, albeit the margin wasn’t great. His run in the ATC Trophy the start prior was a beauty and up to 1500m, he should take beating.
Respecting 5 Munhamek (Bet Now: $SP.00) against these. He has been kept on ice since running in the feature race at Bendigo on April 1, the Golden Mile, where the run looked end of prep but given a mini break and his recent Flemington jumpout was sharp. Scratched from the BRC Sprint a couple of weeks ago when not getting a run due to being an emergency, I think he’ll run a beauty here.
Race 7. (15:13) Moreton Cup 1200m
4 Quantico (Bet Now: $SP.00) needs to win to secure a Stradbroke berth next Saturday so there is clear intent and I do think he’s flying. He resumed three weeks ago in the Ortensia at Scone and with normal luck, he wins the race instead of a fast finishing second to Athelric, getting badly held up at a wrong stage. Big track, 1200m, firmer footing, I think he only runs well and I’m keen on his prospects.
11 Clemenceau (Bet Now: $SP.00) is four weeks between runs for Team Hawkes since racing in the Takeover Target where he wasn’t given much hope with the ride from Collett, settling nearer the inside and that wasn’t the spot to be behind Think About It, and we saw what that horse did last Saturday. He’s a good horse, I am convinced of that, and good enough to measure up here.
13 Arentee (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a pretty solid four year old for Chris Meagher that is hard to beat against these. He resumed a few weeks ago at Doomben where he was kept very safe in betting and the ride from Willow was the winning move, riding him on speed, trucked in the run and was far too good for them in an impressive return. Good second up record, upside, he appeals big time.
Race 8. (15:52) Queensland Oaks 2200m
16 Yankee Hussel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the knockout and each way play for me. Total forgive after covering ground in The Bracelet before going to The Roses and I thought she was very good from near last behind Fireburn. Racing like 2400m will be ideal for her, she’ll be put to sleep and be stronger than most at the end. Great each way gamble.
3 Renaissance Woman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the key threat. She was a dominant winner of the Bracelet at the Sunny Coast before a game second to Fireburn in the Roses a fortnight back, where she got off the speed and was held up at times but was solid late albeit held comfortably by Fireburn. Off that effort, hard to see her turning the tables, but she runs well regardless.
7 Sakura Girl (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver. Kiwi raider that was very game in defeat in the Roses given she was a few weeks between runs, keen, had to work to lead, and only was feeling the staggers very late in the piece. She is the one with the most improvement IMO from the Roses into this, and with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
Race 9. (16:28) Queensland Day Stakes 1200m
18 Written In Code (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very sharp filly for Annabel Neasham and getting back up to 1200m, it could be a case of good luck beating her. Let down like a good horse to win on debut at Newcastle over 1200m before going back to 1100m in the Denise’s Joy at Scone and she rocketed to the line late in the piece when second to Red Card. Back up in trip, I am quite keen on her chances.
2 Golden Boom (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a slight query at 1200m but he’s a brilliant three year old for Tony Gollan. His last couple of runs have come over the 1110m at Doomben, the latest being the Darby McCarthy a fortnight back where he lobbed into a beaut spot behind the speed. Just a matter of getting clear air and once he got it, he dashed and was impressive. If he gets a soft trip, I think 1200m will be fine and is a key chance.
1 Brereton (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a handy horse when right and this is one of the weaker races he has contested in some time. He resumed against the older horses in the Straight Six at Flemington and found the line well enough without threatening behind It’sourtime. Back to his own age, better for the run under the belt, he’s a must include in multiples.
