Ka Ying Rising has completed his trial preparations for The Everest with a narrow second behind Ninja at Randwick on Tuesday morning.
The Everest favourite cruised through the 1000m hit-out on a Soft 7 track, with the Michael Freedman-trained Ninja edging him out by a long head.
Ninja stopped the clock at 59.46 seconds, while Apocalyptic finished third in a trial that also featured Joliestar, Headwall, Angel Capital and Amazing Journey.
The outing provided Ka Ying Rising with a useful workout on rain-affected ground ahead of his return to Randwick for The Everest on October 17.
Ka Ying Rising will be chasing consecutive victories after winning last yearβs race and heads towards his title defence as the favourite, despite being narrowly denied in Tuesdayβs final tune-up.
