A bumper ten event meetig has been assembled for Eagle Farm this Saturday, headlined by three Group l contests. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:08) The Roses 2100m
1 Barb Raider (Bet Now: $2.80) is the class and from the inside gate, C Williams aboard, she’ll do me. Ran a game second in the SA Oaks, trying her guts out but just failing to get there, bloused late by Glint Of Hope. Off that, I think 2100m here is fine and should get run of the race from the draw.
5 Stalking (Bet Now: $15.00) should appreciate a rise to 2000m for James Cummings. Finally the maiden win out of the way in style two back at Kenbla. She then went to the Bracelet and probably just found the 1800m a touch too short for her style but was good late behind Dynasties. Like her up in trip and does have a touch of class.
6 Belle Savoir (Bet Now: $7.50) can bounce back. On face value, she was a touch disappointing a few weeks ago at Sandown but when you break down the sectionals, she actually did a really good job to get as close as she did to beating Carlisle. More genuine tempo here, she can get back into the winners list.
Race 2. (11:43) Living Turf Premier's Cup 2400m
15 Soprano Supreme (Bet Now: $8.50) is a progressive mare for Mark Walker that should prove hard to beat. She ran in the Gold Coast Cup three weeks ago and was given a ground saving trip by McEvoy, but with that, she was stuck in the worst part of the track and that beat her in the end IMO when second to Stardome. Firmer deck, she’ll take beating.
4 Flash Aah (Bet Now: $7.00) is bursting to win again. Game second at Flemington on Anzac Day before racing at Caulfield where he loomed to win and looked the winner, but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to a very much in form Milford. Fourth up, hard fit, he is just about at D-Day.
5 London Banker (Bet Now: $26.00) has been racing a bit one paced this time in, so I think 2400m will suit. Ran two weeks back in the Chairmans and whacked away okay without really being a winning threat behind Yonkers. Reckon the rise in trip will help and fourth up, should be hard fit.
Race 3. (12:18) Lord Mayor's Cup 1800m
If this is holding up okay and firmer, then good luck beating 2 Hungry Heart (Bet Now: $4.00). High class mare for Chris Waller that has had such a frustrating 2022 to date, with wet tracks ensuring she has only had three runs, the latest coming in the Hollindale behind Zaaki when back and making up okay headway. Back to this level, firmer footing…surely her class alone gets her home.
7 Bigboyroy (Bet Now: $3.00) looks ready to rock and roll. Chris Waller trained gelding that ran two weeks ago over the mile here in the Members Handicap. Just lacked the change up speed to put them away but stayed on and was sound enough when a close up third to Diamil. Hard fit and up to 1800m, he’ll take beating.
1 Kolding (Bet Now: $10.00) won’t know himself back on firmer footing. Has been plagued by wet tracks throughout 2022, the latest run being in the Hollindale where he struggled. Stable wouldn’t persist if he wasn’t going any good so firmer footing, Nash on, he’ll run very well.
Race 4. (12:53) Brc Sires' Produce Stakes 1400m
1 Twin Stars (Bet Now: $11.00) looks the each way play. Not sure how strong the SA 2YO form is, but he is lightly raced with a good record and comes here as a last start Sires winner, taking out the SA version in strong style. He maps to get a soft run near the speed and is proven at the trip.
16 Exo Lady (Bet Now: $6.50) is a query at 1400m, but maps ideally from the inside gate. She tried her guts out in the Spirit Of Boom but just couldn’t quite get past Swiss Exile in a tight finish. With an economical run in transit, I think 1400m is okay and is a definite winning chance.
Fitter and up to 1400m are two big ticks for 11 Merchant Prince (Bet Now: $21.00). He was off a let up when racing at Caulfield over 1200m a few weeks ago and for mine, he just found them a bit sharp, but was good to the line and through it when third. Getting to Eagle Farm and seven furlongs, he rates as a knockout hope.
Race 5. (13:28) Doomben Cup 2100m
Not going to dive into the shorts about 1 Zaaki (Bet Now: $1.28), but I can’t see him getting beat. Arrogant win in the Hollindale threeweeks ago. He was ridden like he was the best horse in the race and duly saluted. A potential wet track is the query, because his last couple, while he has been performing at a high level, he’s clearly not as dynamic. I think he wins, but couldn’t back with confidence.
No secret I am seat 1A of the 6 Huetor (Bet Now: $13.00) fan club. I think he’s a Group l winner in waiting. Wouldn’t shock me at all if it came here. He was outstanding against the pattern fresh at Randwick before going to the Hollindale, his first look against the big boys, and he measured up big time with a closing fourth to Zaaki. If he is around double figures or better, I think he almost becomes the 1×3 bet.
I am fascinated by 7 Maximal (Bet Now: $31.00) for John O’Shea. This blue blood, in the fair dinkum department, was awful in two runs during the Autumn, albeit he had excuses both times. He has been crying out for dry ground but there comes a time where you just have to run and this is the last middle distance Group l of the season. His best sees him measure up…just yet to produce it this time in.
Race 6. (14:03) Fred Best Classic 1400m
10 Battleton (Bet Now: $13.00) is a quality three year old that should prove hard to beat for Bjorn Baker. This guy resumed at Gosford where he ran his race in patches. Came off the bit and hit a flat spot early on in the straight but he balanced up in the straight and loved the way he found the line late when third. Bigger track, fitter, if he can sit closer in the run, he’ll take beating.
4 Ranch Hand… (Bet Now: $8.50) is he back? Jury was out on him but he turned up two weeks ago here at this trip and he made a mess of them after getting a good sit off the speed with cover. He’s always promised to be a really good horse…is the Brisbane Winter where he can shine?
11 Meritable (Bet Now: $34.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. First up in the Gold Coast Guineas three weeks back where he got back off the speed and worked to the line pretty well, albeit no match for Prince Of Boom and Sword Of State, which looks very strong form. The thing with these NZ gallopers I am finding is that second up in Brisbane, they are firing, so he’s a key threat.
Race 7. (14:38) Brc Sprint 1300m
11 Tycoonist (Bet Now: $10.00) can bounce back. Loved the way he knuckled down to win fresh at Hawkesbury before going to the Luskin Star at Scone where he seemingly had every chance from just behind the speed but just battled late behind Flying Crazy. Third up, hard fit, he deserves another chance, especially back on top of the ground.
6 Buffalo River (Bet Now: $7.00) is a key threat. Michael Moroney trains this gelding, who comes here second up after resuming in the Anniversary Vase at Sandown. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a very solid kick but was just nabbed late by Regardsmaree. He has the right racing pattern for this track, he’s fitter…he only runs well.
2 Gem Song (Bet Now: $21.00) is flying for Kris Lees. He comes through The Archer. The race shape was totally against him that afternoon but for him to get within a length of Enerald Kingdom was absolutely enormous. If he’s within range on the turn here. he’s certainly capable of finishing over the top.
Race 8. (15:18) Queensland Derby 2400m
I’m really keen on 5 Pinarello (Bet Now: $8.00). He brings fresh legs into this and his last start win at Pukekohe was classy. Change up speed despite doing a bit wrong was sharp, running a tick over 34 for the last 600m. That is the key to him. He can stay, but he has change up speed, something that the majority of these do not have.
3 Caboche (Bet Now: $9.50) has the Waller polish and we know he loves to target this race. This guy ran two weeks ago at Scone against the older horses and looked all over a winner, but was outgunned late by Bonny Ezra in a tight finish. He was a few weeks between runs and jumping up in trip, so you’d like to think there is good improvement to come.
17 Nest Egg (Bet Now: $41.00) is one I am not dismissing. His NZ form certainly sees him run well but just hasn’t quite put it together in Australia. Needed the run fresh on Anzac Day. Went to Gosford and I thought he was okay late behind Hameron. Third up, hard fit, Waller camp, must for multiples.
Race 9. (15:58) Kingsford-Smith Cup 1300m
4 Eleven Eleven (Bet Now: $14.00) is a great each way gamble IMO. Greg Hickman trained gelding that saves his best for when he comes to Queensland and brings fresh legs. Resumed two weeks ago in the Ortensia at Scone and warmed to the task nicely late when fourth in a big tick for a first up run given he gets better as the prep goes on. Maps to get a soft run in transit and will be strong late.
5 Apache Chase (Bet Now: $12.00) races best when leading and rolling. I thought Byrne rode him a touch cute fresh in The Archer. Led but absolutely crawled in front, which worked against him I felt when pipped late by Emerald Kingdom. He loves to lead and roll, making those from behing chase from the outset. If that eventuates, he’ll run a bold race.
2 Laws Of Indices (Bet Now: $26.00) will love getting to firmer footing. High quality animal for Annabel Neasham that comes here with relative fresh legs, having not raced since the All Aged when a game fourth to Cascadian. He’s been plagued by bottomless tracks this time in. Back on firmer footing, with class, he’s hard to beat.
Race 10. (16:34) Helen Coughlan Stks 1200m
16 Miss Hipstar (Bet Now: $41.00) is the each way speck for me in the get out. I reckon they’ve tried to stretch her out to see if she could head towards a Fred Best and potentially have a crack at the Stradbroke, but the Guineas run suggested that beyond 1200m is a stretch. Back on top of the ground and from gate one, I think she’ll only run well, and likely be good odds.
3 Written Beauty (Bet Now: $4.20) is a quality mare when right and Chris Waller got her back to winning ways a fortnight back with a strong win in the Bright Shadow. Willie Pike magic got her home, slicing his way through the field on the mare and drove hard late to win and win well. Hopefully her confidence is up and she can hold her form.
9 April Rain (Bet Now: $10.00) got her blacktype placing via the Silk Stocking last start…now can she get a win? A new TV was on standby because I’ve been on her back since Day One but dropped off at the Gold Coast. She looked the winner but couldn’t quite get past Dzsenifer. Interesting she comes back to 1200m but will be strong late.
