A bumper nine event meeting has been set down for Ipswich on Saturday for Ipswich Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out a half metre for the entire circuit.

3 Pivotal Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since May 21 when resuming at this track/distance. He got back to near last in the run but worked home with real purpose late in the piece behind Rejoiced. Tick over trial was good, watch betting.

4 Southern Charm (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout. She comes through the QLD Day Stakes from two weeks back at Eagle Farm where she got off speed but kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat I thought behind Cosmic Fire. She was a few weeks between runs there so fitter and back a fair way in depth/grade, she takes beating.

12 Glass Of Rose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given some level of respect off the back of a sharp win here two weesk ago where she gave them a start and a beating, producing nice change up speed to record the win. Harder here but off the win, she has to be respected.

14 Quothquan (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Eagle Farm when near the speed throughout and tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish it off behind Demon Darb. Back a fair way in depth and I think with a more patient steer, he’ll be more effective.

11 Heman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing well and is one of the leading contenders. He ran last Wednesday over 1350m at Doomben when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Tuff Tu Mus. Hard fit and up in trip, he is one of the leading contenders.

5 Barazin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Kris Lees trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Feb 28 at Canterbury when off speed and was good without threatening behind O’Ziggy. He does go well on the fresh side and his trials have been encouraging. Market watch.

15 Wittelsbach (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is lightly raced but heading in the right direction for Team Archibald. She ran second over 2200m here last time out when on speed throughout and she tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when second to The Khan. The trip is the unknown but she has more scope than most.

2 Bestower (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been up a little while but is holding her form really well. She ran over 2200m at the Sunny Coast last time when off speed and chased strongly but couldn’t quite get there when second to The Right Way. 2500m should be fine and this isn’t a deep contest.

1 The Right Way (Bet Now:  $SP.00) won the race mentioned above that Bestower ran second in. He landed near the front and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off. 2500m is a query but he’s a genuine animal.

4 Slippin Jimmy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) to resume a winner. He is first up for David Vandyke, having not raced since Feb 1 at Doomben when at the end of his prep when down the track behind Corfe Castle. Like a trial from him at the Sunny Coast and he does race well on the fresh side.

8 End Assembly (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Outreach that resumes for Mark Currie. He is first up, having not raced since Dec 14 at Toowoomba when on speed and tried hard but just felt teh pinch late in the piece behind Super Quick. Recent trial was strong, he goes well fresh, watch betting.

6 Maximum Output (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Stuart Kendrick, having not raced since May 3 at the Sunny Coast when resuming and was a game second to Tiger Shark after settling near the speed. Maps ideally and has good upside to come.

5 Redford (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance after racing over 1400m three weeks ago at Eagle Farm. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing with purpose behind Harbourmaster. If within range, he has the finale to score.

11 Castillian (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here as a last start winner, that win coming at Doomben where he gave them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. He has found winning form, he can certainly go on with it against these.

1 Bettcha The Crown (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran over this trip last Wednesday at Doomben and did more than enough in defeat after settling near the speed behind Tuff Tu Mus. His best is good enough to be dangerous.

1 Stay Focused (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was looking to get a start in the Stradbroke via the Fred Best but he did a bit too much work on speed and just felt the pinch in the straight when down the track behind Spicy Martini. Back miles in grade/depth, he is the one to beat.

2 Tuned (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a big improver for Team Archibald. She comes through the Fred Best when ridden with intent near the speed and she tried hard but just lacked the class to go with them late in the piece. Back to this level, she appeals.

3 Superalloy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a definite threat. He too comes through the Fred Best where he got a mile out of his ground but you had to like the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Spicy Martini. If he can settle closer, be within range. he’s dangerous.

I am really keen on 8 Diablo Bolt (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Was very keen on him at the Sunny Coast last start, but I thought the ride from Jag was sleepy. That said, I still thought he was going to win but Felix The Scat drifted out under pressure and Diablo Bolt had to check off heels and lost momentum when surging. Big intent here IMO with Blinkers back on, he has the upside/sense of timing and he handles Ipswich.

4 Osmose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key threats. She has placed in both runs back from a spell, the latest being over the mile at Eagle Farm when off speed but kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Adiella. Hard fit now and up in trip, she appeals.

2 Brookhaven (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since contesting the Lord Mayors Cup when off speed and he tried hard but on the bog, he couldn’t pick his feet up. Better suited here, he’s an improver.

2 Warnie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Ciaron Maher and clearly takes beating here. He ran over 1200m two weeks ago in the Moreton Cup when off speed, spotting those in front too much head start, but really liked the way he finished his race off behind Front Page. Up to 1350m, can settle closer…very hard to beat.

6 Oughton (Bet Now:  $SP.00) won at this track/distance last year and looks on track to run well again. He ran two weeks ago in the Moreton Cup and was quite good in defeat. Hard fit now and rising in trip, he appeals as a key chance.

14 Devastate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Vadamos that resumes for Tony Gollan. He was a real model of consistency when last in work but just couldn’t quite string together wins. Has had a good break and has looked to trial up well for the return.

3 Kazou (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks suited up to 1200m for Chris Waller after resuming a fortnight back in the Bob Charley where she got a fair way out of her ground but really liked the way she closed her race off in defeat. If she can settle closer, be within range, she’ll take beating.

16 Gerringong (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is rated 78 yet is a short priced favourite in a Stakes race, which is interesting, but she looks very progressive and does have Gai training. She ran in the QLD Day two weeks ago and was very good late in the piece behind Cosmic Fire. Can slide across from the wide draw and look the winner for a long way.

10 Navyonthehighway (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has runs on the board to be given another chance but I do think it’s last chance territory because she was very plain in the Helen Coughlan but we know that when she can get on speed and dominate, she’s a hard horse to get past.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 8 Diablo Bolt

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 2 Warnie

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 3 Kazou
