Flemington will host a seven race card on Friday, called ‘Rapid Racing’, with 30 minute gaps and all races run on the straight course. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out twelve metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (15:00) Eynesbury Golf Plate 1000m
2 Elite Icon (Bet Now: $2.70) on top in the opener. Team McEvoy trained three year old that is on debut. He’s had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for start one, winning them both, the latest coming a couple of weeks ago at Terang in solid time. Draws out, so will get clear air throughout and finds a winnable maiden I feel.
12 Smokin’ Holly (Bet Now: $4.50) has been close up in both runs this time in. Narrow second fresh at Bairnsdale before going to Yarra Valley where she tried hard once again but had to settle for another second, this time to No Baby No. She’ll be near the front of the pack and trying hard.
9 Rocking Pretty (Bet Now: $9.00) is in with a shout here on debut. Team Corstens trained daughter of Awesome Rock that is having start one off the back of a couple of jumpouts, where she has looked pretty solid each time she has stepped out. If the inside is okay, she’s a threat.
Race 2. (15:30) Leap Real Estate Sprint (64) 1200m
3 Place Of Gold (Bet Now: $3.00) looks to be a talented animal for Cliff Brown. Debuted at Mornington when wide and doing work but he was trucking and once Ethan Brown gave him some rein, he showed good change up speed and put them away impressively. Harder here, but confident he measures up.
4 Treporti (Bet Now: $3.30) is a lovely looking animal for Danny O’Brien that should be better for the 1400m run under the belt on Boxing Day at Caulfield where he was on speed and was probably a bit keen in the run, which took away something from his finale when a close up fourth to Tonneofgrit. Dangerous if he can relax.
5 Get On The Gas (Bet Now: $9.50) can bounce back. He was good late fresh at The Valley before going to 1300m at Sandown where he got far too keen in the run and left himself with nothing left for the straight behind Attractable. Back to 1200m I like for him and hopefully the tempo is more genuine.
Race 3. (16:00) Jockey Challenge Trophy (64) 1200m
1 Encircle (Bet Now: $13.00) is the throw at the stumps here. Craig Weeding trains this mare, who can launch late off a good speed and I think that is the set up she will get here. Got back at Corowa last time out before eventually getting clear and charging late to just miss. Should get good cover, a drag into the race and be strong at the end.
2 Yosemite (Bet Now: $3.80) looks to have returned in good order. This mare resumed over 1000m at Sandown where she got a fair way back in the run and was never really a winning threat but liked the way she finished off behind The Superintendent. Fitter and up to 1200m, she appeals big time.
7 Isolating (Bet Now: $20.00) is on the quick back up after racing at Moe on Tuesday where I think he should have finished a tad closer. He was bolting behind the speed but couldn’t really get a chance to build the revs instead of sit/sprint, which isn’t his go. I think he’s one for multiples.
Race 4. (16:30) Yum Sing House Sprint (Class 1) 1000m
6 Red Hawk (Bet Now: $2.25) is short but I think he has a bit of quality about him. Resumes for Team McEvoy, having not raced since his debut on the Ballarat Synthetic back in August when making an absolute mess of them, winning by six. Has jumped out well leading in and from gate one, he jumps on the bunny and will take beating.
10 Joseylin (Bet Now: $4.40) is racing well for Team Hayes. Impressive maiden winner two back at Yarra Valley before going to Sandown where she didn’t chuck it in after being head and almost came back to beat Sniper Legend in a tight finish. 1000m looks to be her sweet spot and back to just her own age, she’s a chance.
2 Gaius (Bet Now: $14.00) has returned in good order for Henry Dwyer I feel. Resumed at the midweeks at Mornington where he was trucking in behind the speed and was building into the race nicely until getting badly checked and held up late. Clear air from the wide gate, he’ll be strong at the end.
Race 5. (17:00) Adelphi Hotel Plate (64) 1100m
If the inside is okay and he gets normal luck, then 4 Tax Free Prophet (Bet Now: $3.90) looks to be the good thing on the card. Loved the change up speed he produced to win fresh at Mornington before going to The Valley where Josh Richards had to take his medicine, riding him cold from the wide gate, and he worked home strongly to be beaten 1.45L. Nice piece of work in a tick over jumpout and I think he has a class edge on these.
2 El Salto (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the only threat. This gelding has been up a while for Brent Stanley but continues to hold his form nicely. Ran over 955m at the Valley last time where he did no work from the inside gate and surged hard late when clear when a narrow second to Titans, who won on Tuesday at Moe, so the form has been ticked off.
9 Fortune Follows (Bet Now: $12.00) is a beauty for Patrick Caboche that is just so honest. That honesty was rewarded with a spank job of his rivals at Mornington last time in what did look a moderate 58. He will win a 64 I feel. Not sure it’s here, but he has to be included in wider multiples.
Race 6. (17:30) Silverpoint Homes Sprint (70) 1000m
6 Big Day Out (Bet Now: $5.00) on top in what looks a tricky race. This four year old put four placings on the bounce before going to Caulfield where he got back in an on pace domination and can be forgiven for that down the track effort behind Midwest. He can sit closer in the run here and be strong late.
5 The Running Man (Bet Now: $6.50) has the right barrier for his racing style of getting back and launching late. Lumped 62kg fresh at Mornington where he paraded like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out behind More. Should get a decent drag into the race from the gate and finish off strong.
3 A Good Yarn (Bet Now: $10.00) gets the Blinkers back on and I think that will spark improvement. He is over a month between runs since sitting on speed at Bendigo and tiring late behind Perseids in a fast run 1100m. He’ll be better with a sit I feel and I think his best is good enough to be dangerous at odds.
Race 7. (18:00) Tick Homes Dash (0MW) 1200m
2 As I Please (Bet Now: $4.00) is a quality animal for Symon Wilde that can really sprout wings late, which was the case when winning fresh at the Boo, charging home from near last on the turn to blouse them late. Drawn out, he’ll sit in the second half of the field and launch.
7 Stardern Lass (Bet Now: $5.50) is racing in super form for the Maher/Eustace camp. She just wants a wet track so if the track does get rain, I think she becomes the one to beat. Ran down the straight at Flemington a few weeks back and was good without much luck when third to Rose Quartz. The one to bet on if the rain hits.
6 Magnavale (Bet Now: $19.00) will put himself on speed and try his guts out, which was the case last time out at Mornington where he was near the front and copping heat but kept finding under pressure, just missing out on the win when beaten a lip by Kurocaine. Have to respect the stable when they come to town.
