Race 1. (11:55) Mrc Chairman's Club (Bm70) 1400m
11 Steel Jimmy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is hard to beat if he can bring the Synthetic form to the turf. 2/2 to start his career, both wins coming on the Ballarat Synthetic where each time he has been quite impressive and running decent time. The little query is 1400m but good racing style and beware the unbeaten horse. Happy to be in his corner.
7 Lulu Darling (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is absolutely flying for Mick Huglin. She has won her past two, both over this trip at Geelong. Each win has seen her sit on speed and each time was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. Good test for her here, but the way she’s racing, I do think she has to be respected.
4 Onslaught (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is ten years of age but is racing as well as ever it seems like. He has won his past two, both coming over 1400m at Echuca where each time he has been on speed and strong to the line in winning. Lands in a plum spot from the inside gate and despite rising in depth, he has to be respected.
Race 2. (12:25) Mrc Chairman's Club (Bm84) 1400m
7 Movader (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. Maher/Eustace trained mare that ran here a few weeks back and I think you can easily make a case to say that she wins with clear air but things didn’t eventuate for her in the straight and it ended up being a somewhat ugly watch behind Hell Hound. She is flying this mare and with a more positive steer, she can take this out.
6 Beour Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is bursting to win a Saturday race. Looked like she got that two weeks ago at Flemington when watching live, but the photo went the way of Starlight Scope in a close finish. Good racing style, hard fit, in form…just needs to put a win on the board and I think she gets a great chance against this lot.
5 Hell Hound (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been up a little while but is holding her form really well. Strong winner at the track/distance two back before going to Flemington a fortnight back where she lobbed into a beaut spot behind the speed and was there to win in the straight but couldn’t quite get there, settling for a third to Starlight Scope. Genuine, honest, should be around the mark.
Race 3. (13:00) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm78) 1200m
9 Climbing Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), I am convinced, is a good horse and she can resume with a win. She had a three run Summer/Autumn prep and just didn’t fire after what was a very promising Spring prep. Two jumpouts to get ready for the return and each time she has looked sharp. If she brings her best, she wins. Hopefully the market agrees.
10 Va Via (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should take beating for James Cummings. Several weeks between runs since a dominant win at Caulfield where she lobbed into a beaut spot behind the speed before Shinn angled her into clear air and she went through her gears like a nice horse. Good test here against some likely types, but hard to knock the way she’s racing.
11 Anilla (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks hard to beat. Team Hayes trained gelding that was kept safe in betting when resuming two weeks ago down the straight at Flemington where he got back off the speed in the run and found the line strongly without threatening the winner, running second to Our Last Cash. Fitter and up to 1200m, bending track, he has to be rated as one of the leading contenders.
Race 4. (13:35) Senet Gambling Law Expert-Bm84 1100m
I am pretty keen on 4 Waverider Buoy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Chris Waller trained mare that has returned in outstanding order to my eye. Got too far back in the run two weeks ago at Rosehill but loved the way she found the line when a close up second to Petulant. The depth here is on the thin side and if within range, I think she’ll be too good for this lot.
11 River Noire (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another look. Peter Moody trained mare that looked a near good thing when resuming down the straight at Flemington but she was pretty one paced in the straight. Didn’t find much when asked by Nolen and just whacked to the line behind Our Last Cash. I think fitter and back to a bending track, she’s a big improver.
9 All About Eve (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a consistent mare for Andrew Noblet that is rarely far away from the action. Market took a set against her last start at Caulfield where she got a fair way out of her ground but really liked the way she found the line late in the piece when second to impressive winner Viviane. Fast run 1100m is ideal and with a drag into the race, she’ll be effective and dangerous at a big price.
Race 5. (14:10) Thoroughbred Club Aust. (Bm84) 1400m
4 Amenable (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), if he’s ready to go, wins. He is a very good horse for Price/Kent that resumes. He’s had no luck throughout his career but this is the prep where he needs to stand up. Potentially could be a Group l winner this prep if things fall into place. Trial work has been very good and despite drawing tricky, he has a bit on these in terms of class/quality.
6 He’s Our Bonneval (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Busuttin/Young. He was close up in defeat two back here behind Dance To Dubai before backing up a week later and going to Rosehill where he was quite good against the pattern behind a nice horse, Kalino. Like him up to 1400m and I think with a patient steer, a bunny to chase, he’ll take beating.
9 Dubai Poet (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the program but gee he looks a nice horse. Former UK galloper that makes his Australian debut for Team Freedman, having not raced since October 1 when placing in a solid race at Redcar. His Timeform rating has him as a Listed/Group lll horse so his local rating sees him well suited in a race like this and his trial work has been more than encouraging.
Race 6. (14:45) Regal Roller Stakes 1200m
7 Detonator Jack (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a smart horse for Maher/Eustace that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Feb 4 at Sandown when a well held third to a very smart stablemate, Right You Are. To me, he would be an ideal horse for a race like the Epsom, so 1200m is a tad on the short side, but does sprint well fresh and has a touch of quality.
3 It’sourtime (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very genuine animal for Danny O’Brien. Was knocking on the door to win a Stakes race this prep and it came two weeks ago in the Aurie’s Star down the straight at Flemington when giving them a start and a beating, rounding them up with purpose in an impressive win. He’s got the win on the board, he can go on with it here.
11 William Thomas (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for John Price and can certainly win without surprising. He has been excellent in two runs back from a break. He has run down the straight at Flemington in both runs this prep, the latest being two weeks back when a closing second to Benedetta. He has returned super and has run well at Caulfield previously. Has to be respected.
Race 7. (15:25) Quezette Stakes 1100m
I think it’s a race where you have to look wide for a peanut each and I do think the bet at odds is 12 Hell Queen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for Ben Brisbourne. Gee she was very consistent during the Autumn and was around the mark more often than not behind likely types. Couple of solid trials under the belt for the return and if there is a bit of juice in the track, that won’t worry her. Think she’s worth an each way ticket.
3 Charm Stone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality filly when right. She is first up for Price/Kent after a down the track effort in the Blue Diamond Prelude back in the Autumn when looking the winner but gave in very cheaply late and was spelled soon after. Given a good break and her trial work has been more than encouraging. Watch the market.
10 Tiz Enuff (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has the early toe to take beating from the front. Market somewhat took a set against her when resuming at The Valley three weeks back, with sustained speed coming to the fore, leading throughout and giving them an absolute spanking. Yes, the track pattern was in her corner, but even allowing for that, she was dominant. Repeats that here, she will go close.
Race 8. (16:05) Vain Stakes 1100m
2 Cylinder (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a Group l winner in waiting and I think this will be a winning step stone before reaching that level. The Golden Slipper runner up resumes, having not raced since the Sires where the 1400m and bog track just found them a bridge too far behind Militarize. I know it is only trials, but he looks a man, transformed from a boy of the Autumn. He looks ready to go and make a statement. Just doesn’t want too much juice in the track.
1 Little Brose (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the Blue Diamond winner and returns to kick off his 3YO. He went to the Slipper after the Blue Diamond and was part of the carnage midrace so forgive and forget the run. Given a good break and with two jumpouts under the belt, the grounding is there to run well fresh, so watch the market and see what it does.
4 Scheelite (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a beauty for Team Keys. He had two runs in the latter part of the Autumn to start his career, winning them both, including an impressive display at Flemington. Seemingly moved well in a Cranbourne trial last week behind quality mare Magic Time and beware the unbeaten horse. He could easily win this without surprising.
Race 9. (16:40) P.B. Lawrence Stakes 1400m
1 Mr Brightside (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a gun horse for Team Hayes and he did win the race last year. He has established himself as one of the best in the country given he is a multiple Group l winner and did win the All Star Mile last year. He is such a reliable horse, very genuine and has been given two solid jumpouts in readiness for the return. He’s the one they have to beat.
3 Tuvalu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very good horse when right. Just a question of whether he is right. Didn’t fire a shot in two runs during the early part of the Autumn and was spelled soon after. Has had a decent break and has been tuned up for the return with two jumpouts…is he ready to go? I’m not sure, but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance and his best is good enough to win.
11 Pinstriped (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a smart horse when right. He resumes, having not raced since May 27 when placing over 1800m at Sandown behind Normandy Bridge, who was flying at the time. Loved the way he closed off in a recent Cranbourne trial and he does have pretty good change up speed, something that can’t be said about most of these.
Race 10. (17:15) Take It To Neds Level (Bm100) 1600m
7 Sibaaq (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) seems a straight bat option in the get out. Annabel Neasham trains, having not raced since July 22, four weeks ago, when resuming in the Winter Challenge when seemingly having every chance behind the speed when fourth to Barbie’s Fox. Fitter and up to the mile, maps to get a sweet run in transit and has good form around him from last prep.
9 Berkeley Square (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key chance. He was kept pretty safe in betting when resuming two weeks ago at Flemington, his first run since the Victoria Derby. He found a very fast run race and was entitled to be very weak late but he kept finding the line in a solid return behind Edison. Fitter and up to the mile, has run well at Caulfield previously and has class.
3 Camorra (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a market watch. He is a class stayer when right but the wheels haven’t really been on since arriving in Australia. It seems like they’ve started again fresh with him and his jumpout work has been encouraging. Doubt he wins, but he is one that certainly pinch a first four spot at a likely big price.
