Ten races has been set down for Randwick on Saturday, headlined by the inaugural edition of the 7 Stakes (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.

Race 1. (11:50) Midway (Bm72) 1600m
I reckon there is a bet here in the shape of 13 Loving Cilla (Bet Now: $SP.00). Greg Hickman has had her for a couple of runs and she is sneaky flying. Last run was over 1400m at Hawkesbury two weeks ago where she didn’t get a chance to build the revs and it was an ugly watch behind Oh Golly Gosh. Think getting to 1600m on the bigger track, getting towards peak fitness, she only runs well.
1 Elettrica (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Freedman trained mare that comes here off a win, that win coming a few weeks ago in the Midway when given a lovely ride by Collett from just off the speed and no doubt the ride won the race, just proving too good for Monfelicity. Another winnable Midway for her here, so she commands respect.
6 Socrates (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a two time winner at the track and comes here off a win. That came over the mile at Gosford where he got into a lovely spot behind the speed before Gibbons angled him into clear air and once he balanced up in the straight, he was dominant late. Harder here, but stable should be respected when they come to town.
Race 2. (12:25) Tab Highway (C3) 1000m
6 Salire (Bet Now: $SP.00) will likely be last in the run but if he’s within range, he has the finale to launch and finish over the top. He hasn’t raced since July 29 when back off the speed and spotted those in front too much head start but loved the way he found the line late in the piece. Trialled well last week at Scone and he does love racing at Randwick. Likeable.
2 Derry Grove (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Matty Dunn since a spank job Highway win here, where he looked the winner a long way out. Just a matter of Nash pushing the button and once he did, he exploded. Has eyes towards The Kosciuszko, but he’s certainly good enough to take this out.
4 Zaru (Bet Now: $SP.00) could be using this as a tune up to get ready for Taree Cup Day on the home track but he is a proven Highway performer that is so genuine. His last run came in the same Highway that Salire contested, which was won by Iron Will. This guy seemingly had every chance but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a third. Not sure he wins, but a must for multiples.
Race 3. (13:00) Peachester Lodge Mile (Bm88) 1600m
9 Gan Teorainn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice mare for Chris Waller and a win wouldn’t totally shock here. Did more than enough fresh in the Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury before going to this track/distance two weeks back where she got back off the speed and tried hard, closing off well enough behind Just Fine. Gradually getting to peak fitness and has more upside than most.
10 Strait Acer (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps out of Midway grade but he is flying and this isn’t a strong race. His win two weeks back in the Midway was quite impressive, giving them a start and a beating in a dominant display. That was 1400m and the way he found the line there, 1600m should be fine. That, plus weight relief, happy to be in his corner.
8 Pesto (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Hawkes trained stayer that resumes. He hasn’t raced since June 3 at Rosehill when back and making up headway without threatening behind Al Aabir. He is better suited over further but can sprint well fresh and this race isn’t overly deep, so I wouldn’t be totally dismissing him.
Race 4. (13:35) Nick Moraitis Trophy (Bm78) 1400m
Looks a lovely race for 6 Gringotts (Bet Now: $SP.00). He is three weeks between runs since resuming at The Valley where he didn’t seem 100% around the tight track but I loved the way he found the line late when balanced up behind Najem Suhail. Fitter, up to 1400m, bigger track, enormous upside, happy to be in his corner.
4 Holymanz (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat. Maher/Eustace trained four year old that resumed a few weeks back over 1200m at Caulfield. He was dragged back to near last from the wide gate and while he was never a winning threat, I really liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Va Via. Gets a much better set up this time around and can settle much closer in the run.
7 Strombus (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. J Mac was aboard when racing last start on the Kenso here and he gave the gelding a perfect sit behind the speed before angling into clear air and he got better as the race went on to win and win well. Good test here against some likely types but confident he measures up.
Race 5. (14:15) Kingston Town Stakes 2000m
16 Just Fine (Bet Now: $SP.00) can stamp himself as #1 seed for The Metropolitan with a win here. He had his Australian debut two weeks ago over the mile here and while overall, he didn’t beat a great deal, the way he clicked through his gears and spanked them late was that of a potential top class horse. Given his form overseas was best at 2000m, that win seems a bonus so fitter, up to 2000m, I think he only runs well and can take this out.
It’s hard to ignore 5 Navajo Peak (Bet Now: $SP.00). He surprised most but didn’t totally surprise me with his Chelmsford Stakes win two weeks ago given first up in the Winx, he was very good despite an ordinary steer. Chad jumped on, rode with intent and the ride won the race. He will only improve with the added fitness and getting to 2000m, he appeals big time.
3 Manzoice (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be ticking along beautifully…as to what race, not sure. He resumed in the Chelmsford where he got a fair way out of his ground but loved the way he closed his race off behind Navajo Peak, beaten just under three lengths. He may want one more and 2400m, but off the return, class, runs on the board, he has to be respected.
Race 6. (14:50) Tea Rose Stakes 1400m
6 Zardozi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is too good of a horse IMO to pen off one run. She resumed in the Silver Shadow and on face value, she was terrible, but I think she had a clear excuse given she was three/four wide no cover for the trip and there was a strong headwind down the side, which was hitting her face on, and she was a beaten horse a long way out. As I said, she’s too good of a horse to pen.
3 Kimochi (Bet Now: $SP.00) has looked like she would eat up 1400m all prep and she gets to it here. First two runs for the prep have come at 1200m, the latest being a fortnight back in the Furious where she closed off with real purpose late in the piece behind Tiz Invincible, beaten just under a length. Hard fit, getting to 1400m, she rates as one of the leading contenders.
14 Summer Loving (Bet Now: $SP.00) is sneaky flying I think for GaiBott and can certainly win this without surprising. She has been plagued by wide gates her past two, including two weeks back in the Furious when wide no cover for the trip yet kept on in a very game effort behind Tiz Invincible. If she gets better luck in running this time around, a win wouldn’t totally shock.
Race 7. (15:25) 7 Stakes 1600m
9 Fangirl (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Chris Waller since taking out the Winx Stakes. J Mac gave her a peach steer in transit, having her within range on the turn and class came to the fore late, letting down hard to win and win well. Has been kept on ice with this and the King Charles in mind so while she lacks hard fitness, she has class/quality.
11 Hinged (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a leading chance in a race like this. She comes through the Winx Stakes at Randwick where she ran her usual honest race, sticking on gamely enough in defeat behind stablemate Fangirl. I think a fast run mile suits and she is always genuine, honest and reliable in terms of being around the mark.
10 Going Global (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look for Chris Waller. This mare resumed two weeks back in the Tramway where the race shape wasn’t to her liking and she didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight so forgive and forget the run behind all the way winner Pericles. Fitter, I think she can run a much improved race.
Race 8. (16:00) The Shorts 1100m
It’s hard to get away from 5 In Secret (Bet Now: $SP.00). James Cummings trained mare that resumed two weeks ago in the Concorde and I thought she did a very good job in a fast run 1000m, sticking to the task quite gamely in defeat behind Remarque. She will take enormous improvement from that run and fitter, up to 1100m, sitting off a hot speed…could be a case of good luck beating her.
1 Private Eye (Bet Now: $SP.00) is another that creates plenty of interest. This time last year, he went on to become one of the premier sprinters in the country. But the wheels kind of fell off in the Autumn. Been given a good break and with two trials under the belt, I think he’s ready to go and make a statement with The Everest in mind.
3 Lost And Running (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good sprinter when right so keen to see how he resumes. He is first up for John O’Shea, having not raced since the All Aged where he went nuts in front and was a beaten horse at the top of the straight behind Giga Kick. He is a bomb fresh horse who has trialled well leading in and we know that at his best, he is a top class sprinter.
Race 9. (16:40) Bill Ritchie Hcp 1400m
A very open/tricky race. 16 Rediener (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning, but not a whole lot of confidence. He ended last prep on a high, winning at Rosehill two back before a strong win in the Gunsynd Classic, beating a potential Group l horse, Yellow Brick. That form, I think, reads very well for a race like this, and with two trials under the belt, he’s ready to go.
1 Converge (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the class of the field and class will carry him a long way despite a long time between wins. That said, this is the weakest race he has contested in a long time. He did very well in a Brisbane prep and traditionally horses bounce off that Brisbane prep into the Spring, so keen to see how he goes.
17 Political Debate (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well for Chris Waller. Three weeks between runs since racing at Rosehill where he was near the speed throughout and was there to win the race but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a second to Vreneli. Hard fit, ideal map, right down in the weights, think he only runs well.
Race 10. (17:15) The Agency Real Estate (Bm88) 1200m
20 Garza Blanca (Bet Now: $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Maher/Eustace and happy to be in his corner once again. He was a strong winner here two weeks ago, really lifted over the line late by J Mac in a great finish, just nabbing Pereille on the peg. He was only second up there so he has good room for improvement and can sustain a sprint.
6 Kibou (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good horse when right so I am quite keen to see how he resumes. He hasn’t raced since June 10 here when leading and looking all over a winner but was nabbed late by a potential Stakes class horse, Iowna Merc. He has trialled well leading in and from all reports, he looks an absolute beast.
1 Kote (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Choisir for Anthony Cummings that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since the Hawkesbury Guineas when producing an end of prep run but was far from disgraced in defeat behind a Group l winner in waiting, Hawaii Five Oh. Not a noted fresh but with solid trials under the belt, I think he’s ready to go.
