12/12/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Eagle Farm, The Gateway day

Racing finally returns to Eagle Farm this Saturday, headlined by The Gateway (1400m), with the winner getting ballot exemption for the Stradbroke in 2021. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

2 Good Chat (Bet Now: $3.50) is a very promising animal for David Vandyke and I think he can measure up to Saturday grade. Looked a sticky situation for him last time out at the Sunny Coast but the splits came, he burst through and was impressive late in drawing clear. He’s a nice horse and can continue his winning ways.

5 Palladas (Bet Now: $3.10) has been a bit costly his past couple but he gets one more chance for me. Good late two back over 1350m at Doomben when a close up third to Starosa before going to the Sunny Coast where he hit a flat spot when asked for the effort but picked up and was close up in defeat behind Dzsenifer. Going well and is hard to beat…but he’s starting to become frustrating. Last chance.

3 Dszenifer (Bet Now: $8.50) is a ripper for Jack Duncan. Definite pass mark fresh behind Starosa before going to her home track at the Sunny Coast where she was somewhat unwanted late in betting, but landed near the speed and she showed good ticker late to fend them off and win. Got upside to come and is a leading chance.

8 Petunia (Bet Now: $6.00) is racing like she will love the rise to the 1800m. Ran over 1400m last Wednesday at the Gold Coast in what was a real sit/sprint. She took a while to wind up, but was very good late when second to The Ritz. Think she turns the tables on that horse here and has more upside than most. Happy to be in her corner.

2 See Marie (Bet Now: $3.40) should have no trouble with the 1800m for the Desleigh Forster team. Lovely ride from Jim Byrne saw her win at Doomben a fortnight back. Got into a lovely spot from the wide gate and she finished best to win and win quite well. Was only second up there, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement.

4 Way Beyond (Bet Now: $6.50) is giving the impression he’ll handle the 1800m. Impressive winner two back over 1690m at Ipswich before going to 1630m at Doomben and working to the line well enough without being a winning threat behind See Marie. Racing like he wants 1800m now so keen to see how he goes against these.

9 Socialising (Bet Now: $5.50) on top. Team Edmonds trained mare that resumed two weeks ago in the Spirit Of Boom and though the race shape was against her, she’s probably not a Stakes class horse when down the track behind Niedorp. Better suited at this level and she was a most impressive winner second up last prep.

7 Fisticuffs (Bet Now: $7.00) has a booming finish on him and I reckon gets an ideal set up here. He was an enigma once upon a time but towards the end of the last prep, he was starting to put it together. Like him here with fresh legs and sitting off a strong tempo, can see him peeling out and launching over the top.

5 Potro Duro (Bet Now: $18.00) deserves another chance. Team Edmonds have this guy and I think you have to forgive his first up effort at Doomben behind Racecourse Road. That horse got total control in front and those behind really had no chance, including this guy. Maybe third up 1400m would be his go, but he goes in multiples.

Jump and run please 5 Rexx (Bet Now: $10.00). He’s done a super job since joining Ian Cook. Got his way into the Final via a strong all the way win at Toowoomba where he led throughout and was simply too tough and too good for them. Gets good weight relief for this, should roll forward, sit near the speed and run a ripping race from the front.

1 Ashman (Bet Now: $4.80) has the class and quality to win this. Matty Dunn trained gelding who is four weeks between runs since bolting up in a Gold Coast heat of this Series, winning by a space with the big weight and running really good time relative to the day. Tick over trial was strong and is a proven city performer.

7 Jetski (Bet Now: $5.00) is the watch horse. Formerly with Godolphin, had his first run for the Sears camp at the Sunny Coast where he didn’t look like winning at all until the final couple of strides when really surging late under Orman to win. Will be fascinating to see what the market does with him because he does have quality when right.

I like the look of 2 Baby Wong (Bet Now: $3.30) for Stephen Jones. Not much has gone his way in both career outings, firstly in the Max Lees on debut at Newcastle before racing at Doomben two weeks ago when wide no cover again yet kept finding the line strongly when second to Conexy. If he gets the rub of the green, he can take this out.

7 Alpine Edge (Bet Now: $4.00) is a very interesting runner. Son of Better Than Ready for the Edmonds camp that debuts. He’s had two trials to get ready for start one and each time he has looked impressive, notably his recent trial, which came at Doomben last Tuesday when winning and running fast time for the juveniles. In the right stable, so watch the market.

12 Cochrane (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Team Snowden trained colt that debuts here. He’s had two soft 735m trials to get ready for start one, and each time he has impressed. Stable finds Jim Byrne to steer and that trainer/jockey combo should always be respected, especially in these two year old races. Watch the market.

1 Fake Love (Bet Now: $2.90) has the Maher/Eustace polish and we’ve already seen how strong the stable has been with their juveniles this season. This girl was an impressive winner of the Debutant at Caulfield before having excuses next time out at Flemington. Freshened up for the Magic Millions and her trial win last week at Warwick Farm was most impressive.

The fascinating runner is 6 Sweet Dolly (Bet Now: $5.50). Debuted over 1000m at Townsville where the market said she was unbeatable, into $1.45 from $1,65, and it was spot on. She led and absolutely bolted up under Stanley, running sharp time for a first starter. Good test for her here, but she’ll put herself into the race and give herself every chance.

I am very interested in 9 Miss In Charge (Bet Now: $12.00), on debut for Kris Lees. This girl was down to run at Scone on Friday, where she looked a near good thing, but stable have scratched and instead heading here with Magic Millions on the radar. Thought it was a lovely trial win from her at Newcastle in solid enough time and Aaron Bullock, who rode in the trial, rides here.

Can make a good case here for 9 Akasaki (Bet Now: $34.00) at odds. He’s been an absolute tripper for Stephen Jones and usually runs well at this level. Luckless around this time last year at Kembla Grange and comes into this race off the back of a down the track in a strong open sprint at Warwick Farm won by Villami, a race which is riddled with subsequent Stakes form. Reads well for this.

Love the sustained speed that 7 Sugar Boom (Bet Now: $3.90) is producing at the moment and I think she can win again. 2/2 this time in, the latest coming three weeks ago in the Swiss Ace when leading throughout and just scraping home in fast overall time. She’ll lead this field up again, boot clear, then look to hold on. Last 100m will be the test.

1 Just Orm (Bet Now: $7.50) is a beauty for Tony Gollan. Just so genuine and tries hard every time he steps out. The key to him looks to be keeping him to the 1000m-1100m distance range, as we saw three weeks ago in the Swiss Ace, rattling home to finish a close up second to stablemate Sugar Boom. He’ll sit off the speed and launch late.

Best on the program for me here in the shape of 2 Profit (Bet Now: $2.90). He can secure his spot in the Stradbroke next year with a win here. I thought he was fabulous two weeks ago in the Recognition. Loved the way he found the line from the back when third to The Harrovian. Fitter, gets to 1400m, onto a bigger track…really keen on his chances.

3 Frosty Rocks (Bet Now: $2.25) can dominate from the front here and take a power of beating. Hasn’t raced for five weeks since leading throughout and bolting up over 1300m here in what was a relatively weak 78. Jumps sharply in grade and depth here but looks in super order if his trial win last Monday here is any guide. One of the hardest to beat.

6 Wapiti (Bet Now: $12.00) can be a big improver here. He resumed in the Recognition and just did a bit too much work from the wide gate but I thought was more than sound in defeat behind The Harrovian. It was a solid enough return and I think he gets a much better set up here. With a strong second up record, has to be respected.

I think 13 Maozi (Bet Now: $10.00) will love getting to 1300m on a big track like Eagle Farm. Talented mare for the Edmonds camp that resumed with a strong win at Doomben on Cup Day before racing there again in the Spirit Of Boom and against the race shape, thought she was good in defeat behind Niedorp. Hard fit now, gets to 1300m, big track…think she can finish over the top.

2 Baccarat Baby (Bet Now: $6.50) has class and that will carry her a long way here. Resumed in the Swiss Ace where she paraded like she would need the run and that’s how it panned out when midfield behind Sugar Boom. She’s not a 1000m horse. Much better suited up in trip, which is what she gets here. Can bounce back for sure.

7 River Bird (Bet Now: $19.00) is a little query at a strong 1300m, but the resumption was very encouraging. That came in the Spirit Of Boom in what was the first run for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp and she was good from the back behind Niedorp. She’ll take good improvement from that and I feel is a knockout chance against these.
