1/3/2026 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sha Tin, Hong Kong Gold Cup day

Eleven races will be run and won at Sha Tin on Sunday, headlined by the return to the track of Romantic Warrior in the Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m).

7 Charity Together (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top in the opener. He ran two weeks ago at this track/distance where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never threatening, he did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat. If he can use the gate and settle closer, he takes holding out.

3 Amazing Gaze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes to Sha Tin after a down the track effort over this trip at Happy Valley where he didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight but that said, I did think he had his chance. Tricky gate but if Purton takes bad luck out of the equation and push on, he’ll be hard to beat.

2 Supreme Mastermind (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a down the track effort at this track/distance when wide no cover throughout and the hard run told late. Maps much better this time around and gets J Mac to steer.

1 The Absolute (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. Three weeks between runs since a first up effort at this track/distance. He got back in the run and did make up decent ground without being a winning threat. Maps to settle much closer and be effective late. Like him.

7 California Bay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key threats. He ran third a fortnight back at this track/distance, getting into a decent spot in transit just off speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there. Maps ideally and strikes a winnable race.

10 Winning Champion (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is having his first look at 1400m after recent racing at 1200m, the latest effort being two weeks back here. He seemingly had his chance and just whacked in the run to the line. Like the rise in distance for him and is a knockout hope.

2 Rezeki (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems the straight bat play. Last couple of runs have come at this track/distance, winning fresh before a close up second two weeks ago, trying hard but just couldn’t quite get there. Hard to knock the way he’s racing, maps ideally and will be strong late.

8 Circuit Fiery (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t win out of turn but is an honest conveyance that will be around the mark, as seen over this track/distance four weeks ago. He sat in a decent spot and I thought was there to win but had to settle for a second. Maps ideally and Purton takes over.

10 Swagger Bro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after racing over the mile on the dirt two weeks back here. He got back out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off. Not sure I could back him to win but is a must for exotics.

14 Always Fluke (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome but I do think he is the straight bat play here in what looks an open contest. He ran over 1400m here a fortnight back, getting the suck in in transit behind the speed and I thought was there to win but just couldn’t quite get there. If he can get luck from the draw, I think he’s top seed.

3 Gold Patch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been kept on ice since Jan 25 when an on speed winner down the straight over 1000m here. He was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and score. The rise to 1200m is a query but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.

2 Find My Love (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran over this trip at Happy Valley just over two weeks back. He got off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat. Maps to do no work in the run and be effective late. Dangerous.

6 Conrad Patch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should take a power of beating here after placing in both runs to date, each at this track/distance. Latest saw him off speed and although held up at times, I thought he was out in time to threaten when third. Looks ready to win and strikes a winnable race.

3 Island Buddy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has won his last two, both coming at this track/distance. Latest win was three weeks ago, leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to score. Tricky gate but will press forward and only run well for mine.

7 Healthy Pony (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Proisir that debuts. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for start one and for the most part hasn’t been too bad. Think he will be better offer further but for exotics, he can be entertained as a first four threat.

3 Galactic Voyage (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top for me. He is three weeks between runs since a track/distance win, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. Gate is tricky but should get decent cover, a drag into the race and launch over the top.

4 Sight Hermoso (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done his racing at 1000m and is racing like a rise to 1200m will be ideal. He has been racing down the straight here where each time he has got off speed and worked home with purpose. Maps ideally and should be effective late.

2 Mickley (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was a real eye catcher two weeks back at this track/distance, getting back to near last in the run but really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat when second. Should settle closer in the run and be effective late. Definite winning hope.

1 Romantic Warrior (Bet Now:  $SP.00) does pick himself. He has been stunning since returning, his win in the Stewards Cup being one of the more arrogant displays. He is looking to win the big three, this being the second leg, and his pet trip…good luck beating him.

2 Voyage Bubble (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran second to Romantic Warrior in the Stewards Cup. I thought Zac rode him a treat and he tried his guts out but was no match for the all time great. 2000m is fine, maps well…he should run second.

3 Beauty Joy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after racing over 1800m in the Centenary Vase. The race shape wasn’t ideal for him but that said, I thought he could finish his race off a touch better. 2000m, I think, is okay…he can fill a place.

4 Rising Force (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in two runs this time in and should take beating. He attempted to lead throughout at this track/distance on Jan 25 and gave a strong kick from the front when second. He should find the top comfortably and with front end control, takes beating.

6 Aurio (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after racing over 1400m here last Thursday when off speed and worked home pretty well late in the piece. He should be strong at the end of 1200m and will be hard to hold out if he can settle closer.

2 Geneva (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a David Hall trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since May 25 when far from disgraced. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for style return, I’d say watch betting and see what it does.

1 Little Paradise (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 1800m after the Classic Mile triumph four weeks ago. He was held up in behind them but when he got clear, he made a mess of them. I think the extra 200m is fine, he maps ideally…clearly the one to beat for mine.

2 Numbers (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was an impressive last start track/distance winner of the Centenary Vase. He took in the seasoned campaigners and was very strong to the line in getting the job done. He looks a serious Derby contender so keen to see how he goes.

13 Pope Cody (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran over this track/distance three weeks back. He got to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did close his race off pretty well. I think he’s a Derby contender and with luck from the gate, he can be dangerous at odds.

1 Gentleman Legacy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) won last Thursday at this track/distance, getting the beaut run in behind before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to score. Model of consistency this guy and he should take a power of beating against this lot.

2 Karma (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after racing over 1800m three weeks ago here. He got off speed and worked home pretty well late in the piece when second. He’s racing like the extra 200m suits and strikes a winnable race.

6 Noisy Boy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran down the track behind Gentleman Legacy in the race mentioned above. He was near the speed throughout and was there to threwten but lacked the finale to go with them late. Not sure he is good enough to win but can run first four.

10 Juneau Pride (Bet Now:  $SP.00) each way for me in the get out. He placed at this track/distance three weeks ago when near the speed throughout and was an honest as ever. Just couldn’t quite finish the job. He gets serious weight relief this time around, he’ll press forward and only run well.

2 Beauty Eternal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after racing over the mile in the Year Of The Horse Cup when tardy away but was ridden with real intent to sit forward and battled away well enough in defeat. Tricky gate but like him back to 1400m and his best is clearly good enough.

6 Son Pak Fu (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1200m at Happy Valley when off speed and worked home okay without really threatening. Like the rise in trip for him and dies have progression/upside.

LONG SHOT: Race Eleven Number 10 Juneau Pride
