Trainer Gary Moore is confident his speedy Prince Invincible will be too hard to catch in Saturday’s Midway Handicap at Kembla Grange.
The four-year-old son of I am Invincible lines up as a live chance in tomorrow’s Midway after a comprehensive 3.5L demolition job at Wyong in his last outing.
Since Moore acquired Prince Invincible from John O’Shea, a race like the Midway has always been on the cards, especially with the gelding exhibiting ultra-consistent form, snaring two wins and two seconds from his five runs this preparation.
“The Midway’s are a great invention for us smaller stables and it gives us the chance to race for some of the lucrative prizemoney on offer on a Saturday,” Moore said.
“I targeted this race for a while, I just wanted to get his benchmark high enough to obtain a start in a Midway, which we’ve been able to do.
“I think he always showed nice potential with John (O’Shea), but he might’ve just needed that extra time to furnish, to mature.
“His (last start) win was most impressive, especially the way he picked up a gear heading into the straight.
“He’s trained on really well since.”
Tim Clark will once again pilot the gelding, looking to add to the two wins and a placing from four rides in partnership.
Having drawn a slightly tricky barrier (13), Moore has full faith in Clark and his renowned front riding ability.
“I think he’s probably one of our best riders of two-year-olds out of the gate,” Moore said.
“He’s a great judge of pace. We’re a very good combination, we’ve had a lot of great wins together when you take into consideration that the first Group One win I had in Australia with Takedown, was ridden by Tim.
“We’re definitely in there with a good chance on Saturday.”
Prince Invincible is currently quoted at $6.50 with tab.com.au while dual acceptor Tocomah heads the open market at $4.20.
