Melody Belle could be a star attraction at this year’s Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
The highly decorated New Zealand based mare, who recently equalled the mark of the mighty Sunline when claiming her thirteenth Group 1 victory in the Thorndon Mile, has been earmarked for a probable trip to Queensland by her trainer for a campaign which is likely to be Melody Belle’s final preparation.
Trainer Jamie Richards is still keeping is options open with regard to Melody Belle’s proposed schedule, but he has confirmed that a visit to the Gold Coast early in the Queensland Carnival and then on to a tilt at the Doomben Cup could well be on the cards.
A visit to Sydney is also not out of the question with the Coolmore Classic on March 13 being considered before the possible Queensland campaign.
Melody Belle has a most impressive strike-rate, having won eighteen of her thirty-six starts while collecting $3.9 million in prize-money.
She has won from 900m to 2020m and on good, soft and heavy going.
Quite simply, you couldn’t ask for more and it would be only be fitting if she goes out on a winning note when Richards calls time on her career, whenever and wherever that might be!
