It will be a big stage for Jimmy Orman’s comeback race-day when he partners Mishani Warfare in the $2 million Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Orman, who has established himself as one of the outright leading riders in Brisbane, last rode in a race on December 5 at a Sunday meeting at the Sunshine Coast. On the following Tuesday he sustained an injury at trackwork and has been sidelined since that time.
“On December 7, I broke the metacarpal bone in my hand. I was just trotting, cantering a horse to the gates. The horse shied and I fell off … and, yeah that was it. It was just an unlucky thing that happened to me” explained Orman.
“I had a plaster cast on … and then had physio, but basically the recovery plan was pretty much for me just not use it … just to rest it.
“That was five weeks ago today. It feels pretty good, and it has been getting better day by day. I did ride work this morning and it felt good, so I’m right to go.
“Originally, I was due to ride The Odyssey on Saturday as well, but at one stage I didn’t think I would be right in time, so I told Kelly (Schweida) I won’t ride. In the end though, I’ve ended up being good enough to ride and it is good to be back on a live chance on Saturday.
“I might still have a second ride on the day … just waiting to hear, but right now I only have the one ride on Mishani Warfare.
“It worked pretty good this morning. I know Les (Ross) wants it to win badly because of the big bonus the horse will earn if it does win.
“Les said he would be doing backflips if it wins.
“I’ll be doing a backflip off the horse if it wins too, I can tell you.”
