The competition is heating up for Queensland’s lucrative winter features, with 127 contenders entered for the $3 million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) set to be held in Brisbane next month.
Group 1 nominations officially closed at midday Tuesday for seven major races, ranging from the Doomben 10,000 on May 17 to the Stradbroke Handicap and J.J. Atkins (1600m) on June 14, which received 146 entries.
Pride Of Jenni, Australia’s current Horse of the Year, is among the 38 horses nominated for the Doomben Cup on May 24, while recent South Australian Derby winner Femminile has been entered for both the Queensland Derby (77 nominations) on May 31 and the Queensland Oaks (83 nominations) on June 7.
Entries for the final Group 1 of the season, the Tatts Tiara, which takes place at Eagle Farm on June 28, will be received next month.
