After an impressive second-place finish in the Blue Diamond Stakes, Tentyris is set to continue his promising juvenile campaign, with plans to race in Sydney next month in search of more success.
Co-trainer Sam Freedman confirmed on Monday that the Godolphin-owned son of Street Boss will next race in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 8. This comes after Tentyris was narrowly beaten by a nose by Devil Night last Saturday, following a seven-day back-up.
“Typically, we’ve gone straight from the Diamond to the Slipper with our horses like Artorius and Lyre and Daumier, but he’s going to run again in the Todman,” Freedman explained. “He is a really tough horse, obviously, to run that sort of race on the back-up of seven days was pretty extraordinary.”
The colt, trained by Sam and his father Anthony Freedman, was fresh when he finished fifth in the Chairman’s Stakes, but has since shown that he thrives with more work. “He has come through it really well,” Freedman continued. “He was just that little bit slow into stride out of the gates and probably cost us getting that spot right behind the speed, which could have been the difference between winning and losing.”
Freedman believes the performance proves Tentyris’ ability. “It vindicates he is a good horse,” he said.
Tentyris will join stablemates and fellow two-year-olds Inkaruna and Price Tag at Randwick. The pair is set to race in Saturday’s Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m), although Freedman noted that they may not yet be at the level for the Golden Slipper.
“Both are class fillies but are possibly not up to the Slipper standard as yet, that will be very competitive on Saturday,” Freedman remarked.
In other stable news, Freedman shared that their new stable addition, Katsumi Orochi, has settled in well and may be seen in the Listed Fernhill Mile (1600m) on April 12.
