The Thousand Guineas (1600m) is a feature race on a bumper ten race card at Caulfield this Saturday.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Thousand Guineas.
2025 Thousand Guineas Runner Preview:
1. Apocalyptic: Apocalyptic is clearly hard to beat. She has been the dominant filly in Sydney, winning three legs of the Princess Series, though I will say her three wins have come in races where the tempo hasn’t been crash hot. Good test here, but in terms of runs on the board, she is clearly top seed.
2. Ferivia: Ferivia is a beauty for Phillip Stokes. Not sure how she won the Prelude at Sandown given she looked beaten 64 times in the straight but she found, kicked and dug in to win right on the peg in an absolute blanket finish. Very genuine filly, she commands respect.
3. Ole Dancer: I don’t see her running 1600m. Yes, the flashing light in the Prelude, but she did bludge out the back and did no work. I can’t see her giving Apocalyptic a start and beating her. Seems way too short.
4. Getta Good Feeling: Not sure she will be suited at Caulfield but you had to like the way she knuckled down to win the Edward Manifold and maps to do no work. I think she is a must include in exotics.
5. Zany Girl: Was very plain late in the Edward Manifold and 1600m seems a bridge too far.
6. Salty Pearl: Didn’t mind her finale in the Prelude, settling back off speed and was good late without threatening. Not sure she wins, but does seem value vs those around in the Prelude.
7. Steel Trap: Beat the older horses last start but I think the gate seals her fate I suspect.
8. Cherish Me: She looks an 1100m horse so why she is here at the mile…no idea.
9. Ethereum Girl: Resumed in the Prelude and was there to win but fresh, I reckon condition just gave way late. Fitter, 1600m should be fine…I think she’s a big price.
10. Karinska: Karinska is bursting to win a good race I feel for Chris Waller and it could well be here. She has finished behind Apocalyptic in Sydney and while safely, she has been good in defeat given she doesn’t seem to have been suited by the slow tempos. More genuine tempo here, hungry Nash on, I think she’ll run a beauty.
11. Chateau Eze: Seemed to have her chance in the Jim Moloney and while she is a nice filly, I think she needs it easier.
12. Mating Call: Was a real eye catcher in the Edward Manifold when a closing third to Getta Good Feeling. She’ll be strong late, she can threaten…just needs luck from the draw.

I think if Zahra wants the lead on Apocalyptic, she could lead these for fun because I can’t see much other early pressure outside her. Zany Girl, Karinska could be given a dig in the ribs maybe? But I think the tempo will be a crawl.
