ROSEHILL

RACE ONE

Avantage defied a late betting drift to win the TAB Birthday Card Stakes (1200 metres).

The Kiwi raider was a constant drifter since markets opened on Wednesday, when she opened a $3.50 favourite. She blew out to $6 on the day and led throughout to beat the very popular Resin ($3.80-$4.40) which went around with 35 percent of the total investment.

Star Reflection ($16) ran on to grab third in front of Sweet Scandal ($5.50-$6).

Of the others, there was support for Serene Miss ($10-$7.50) which trimmed up from double figures while She Knows ($6.50) was popular once more.

BETS: Avantage $1,500 e/w @ $5/$1.95, $1,000 x $2,000 e/w @ $5/$1.95, $1,000 @ $5, $1,700 x $1,600 e/w @ $4.80/$1.90

BETS: Resin $2,000 @ $4.40

RACE TWO

Krone caused a huge upset in the Camera House Darby Munro Stakes (1200 metres).

The Mick Price runner stayed towards the inside lanes and benefitted from having a good run in transit to overhaul the two frontrunners near the line.

Jumping as a $23 chance, Krone had opened at $51 on Wednesday.

Classique Legend ($1.65-$2.10-$2) produced a huge run after being four-wide on the speed and was narrowly beaten in third, with Wild Planet ($17) a short margin in front of him.

Despite the drift, Classique Legend was responsible for over 45 percent of the money and was extremely popular through the multis.

Gem Song was best backed to beat it and was $7-$5 on the day.

BETS: Krone $1,000 x $160 e/w @ $21/$3.90

BETS: Jonker $2,000 e/w @ $8.50/$2.20

RACE THREE

The money for Midterm was spot on in the Irresistible Pools N E Manion Cup (2400 metres).

Midterm had been $6 in the morning and jumped at $5.50 but was $7 when markets first opened on Wednesday.

The Liam Howley-trained runner led throughout with Jamie Kah aboard as the pair held off the fast-finishing Big Duke ($8.50) and the favourite Shraaoh ($2.90-$3.80) which was a noted drifter late.

Shraaoh was nearly three times as popular as Big Duke while Midterm was easily the third best supported runner in the race.

BETS: Midterm $1,500 e/w @ $6/$2.20, $2,000 @ $5.50, $1,000 @ $5.50, $1,350 @ $5

BETS: Shraaoh $2,000 @ $3.60, $2,000 @ $3.30

RACE FOUR

The Autumn Sun gave favourite backers a fright but he did what he knows how to do and that is win!

The Autumn Sun went around as a $1.42 favourite and held a whopping 87 percent of the total investment, making him one of the best backed runners all day.

He had to do it tough though after sitting midfield, he came wide at the 700 metre mark but struggled to get past Surely Sacred ($16-$12) with very little separating them at the finish. Chapada ($26) found the line nicely for third.

Of the others, Costello ($41-$26) had been tried at a price.

BETS: The Autumn Sun $110,000 @ $1.65, $150,000 @ $1.42, $53,000 @ $1.40, $100,000 @ $1.33

RACE FIVE

The champ did it again as Winx cruised to an effortless win to claim her fourth George Ryder Stakes (1500 metres).

Jumping the shortest price she has ever gone around ($1.05), jockey Hugh Bowman tracked wide on the turn and she was too good again in recording her 32nd straight win to land a countless amount of big bets and multis.

Brutal ($26) finished second after racing outside the third placegetter (Dreamforce – $34) for the majority of the trip.

Holding 98 percent of the total investment, Winx also set a new record at TAB with the biggest ever single investment on a horse. One customer plonked $345,000 @ $1.05 on her with the bet surpassing the $280,000 @ $1.08 that was placed before her win last start in the Chipping Norton.

BETS: Winx $345,000 @ $1.05 – new record bet at TAB

BETS: Other bets included $259,000 @ $1.06, $230,000 @ $1.06, $179,000 @ $1.07

RACE SIX

Avilius ($3.40-$4.60) relished the return to Sydney by brilliantly taking out the Ranvet Stakes (2000 metres).

The Godolphin runner drifted in the market as the support came for Egg Tart ($13-$5.50) which was a significant firmer on the day, along with Unforgotten ($6.50) was popular through betting.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy unleased the son of Pivotal at the top of the straight and the gelding did the rest, sweeping to a convincing victory over leader He’s Eminent ($19) and the Kiwi Danzdanzdance ($6.50-$5.50) which carried some good investment as well.

Avilius was the most popular horse and account for just over a quarter of the market, with Egg Tart next best in front of Danzdanzdance and Unforgotten.

BETS: Avilius $4,000 @ $4.60, $2,500 @ $4.60, $2,000 @ $4.60 MULTIPLE TIMES, $4,050 @ $4.40, $2,500 @ $4.20

RACE SEVEN

Kiamichi ($26) led throughout to take out the Longines Golden Slipper (1200 metres).

The least favoured of Godolphin’s six in the field, Kiamichi was $51 in the morning and rated a treat by Damian Lane as she backed up from winning the Magic Night seven days earlier to give James Cummings his first Slipper.

It was a Royal Blue ‘wipeout’ for Godolphin as Microphone ($7.50) and Blue Diamond winner Lyre ($13) filled the minors.

Another of the Cummings runners in Tenley ($5) was the most popular in terms of money held, while Cosmic Force ($4.40-$5-$4.40) jumped favourite after being challenged at the top of betting by Tenley.

Yes Yes Yes ($7) and Microphone were the two best backed outside of Tenley with Lyre and Cosmic Force next best.

BETS: Kiamichi $1,000 @ $41, $500 e/w @ $34/$7

BETS: Cosmic Force $9,500 @ $4.60

BETS: Lyre $10,000 @ $13

RACE EIGHT

The late move for Nature Strip came off when he took out the Galaxy (1100 metres) in a tight finish.

Another member of the Chris Waller stable, Nature Strip was $5-$4 in the last 20 minutes and had been $7 on Wednesday.

Rated perfectly by James McDonald out in front, Nature Strip held off the fast-finishing Pierata ($7.50-$10) by a pimple with Easy Eddie ($16) running a cracking race for third.

Those that backed Redzel ($4.60) and Graff ($5-$4.60) were left disappointed as the pair held the lion’s share of investments. Redzel held 44 percent of the market while Graff was next best at 15 percent.

BETS: Nature Strip $6,000 @ $5.50, $2,600 @ $4

RACE NINE

Semari ($4.60-$5) finished over the top of the money horse I’m A Princess to take out the E-Group Security Epona Stakes (1900 metres).

The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young runner came with a powerful burst under Tommy Berry to beat I’m A Princess ($8.50-$6) which had been $11 when markets opened on Wednesday.

All Too Soon ($5) was popular once more and wound up third. In fact, All Too Soon held the most money in front of I’m A Princess while Domed ($8) was next best in front of the winner.

MORNINGTON

RACE ONE

Master Shuhood caused an upset by taking out the first event on the card at Mornington.

The former European hurdler flashed home to nail Pria Eclipse ($12) and Maclairey ($6.50-$7) but didn’t have a great deal of support riding on him.

In fact, the Chris Waller runner held just four percent of the total investment with the majority of the money riding on Kaching ($5), Battlecamp ($4.40-$6) and North Afrika ($15-$8.50-$6), with the latter leading and fading slightly over the concluding stages to finish fourth.

BETS: Master Shuhood $400 @ $21

RACE TWO

Star Fall proved a costly conveyance in the second event.

Going around as a hot $2.60 favourite, Star Fall was unplaced after racing on the speed with the race won by The Centaurian ($23) which did it tough throughout.

Star Fall was responsible for well over half the investment on the race and was more than four times as popular as the next best backed runner which was Miss Toorak Flyer ($4.80).

RACE THREE

N/A

RACE FOUR

Tahitian Dancer toughed it out to beat the favourite in the Cleanaway Handicap (1200 metres).

Backed from $4.80-$4 on the day after bottoming out at $3.40 yesterday, Tahitian Dancer was the best tried runner outside of Music Bay ($2.90) but still held less than half the amount of money than that runner.

The pair cleared out from their rivals with the Shane Nichols-trained runner holding a narrow margin over Music Bay at the finish.

Northern River ($23) was a distant third in front of Private Lounge ($5.50-$8.50).

BETS: Tahitian Dancer $1,000 @ $4.20 TWICE, $1,000 @ $4

RACE FIVE

Vinco ($8-$7.50) finished best down the outside to take out race five on the card in a thrilling finish.

The Tony McEvoy runner nailed Power Scheme ($4.40) right on the line and the pair had decent support on the day.

The big disappointment from a betting perspective was Really Discreet which drifted from $1.70 to $2.25. Despite getting out in the market it was twice as popular as the runner-up and held three times what the winner did.

RACE SIX

Steel Prince ($2.70) arrived right on time to take out the Keno Fun Money Handicap (2000 metres).

The Anthony Freedman runner nailed Mitrust ($23) after that runner appeared to have the race won.

Thunder Cloud ($2.80) was third and once again had very heavy support.

BETS: Steel Prince $6,500 @ $2.90

RACE SEVEN

Self Sense ($13) was nibbled throughout the week to win the Mornington Cup (2400 metres) and that support was justified.

The David Brideoake-trained runner was $17 on Wednesday and attracted some handy eachway investments. The eight-year-old made a sweeping run around the field to finish best and win his second Cup in the space of a week after saluting at Yarra Valley on March 17.

He beat the fast-finishing Tarquin ($13) and the leader Trap For Fools ($4.40) which was a noted drifter from $2.80 early in the week.

RACE EIGHT

Streets Of Avalon landed a long priced move by taking out the Hareeba Stakes (1200 metres).

The Shane Nichols-trained runner opened an $11 chance on Wednesday and you could have still secured $7 today, however, by jump time the gelding was a $5.50 chance.

Racing on the speed throughout, Streets Of Avalon dashed away to beat the fast-finishing Bons Away ($6.50) and Snitzkraft ($16).

Manolo Blahniq ($6.50) was actually the most popular runner in terms of money taken in front of Bons Away with Streets Of Avalon third in that regard.

BETS: Streets Of Avalon $2,000 @ $6, $2,000 @ $5.50, $1,000 @ $5.50 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE NINE

Punters ended the day on a high at Mornington when the heavily tried Mr Quickie was successful in the Stellar Guineas (1600 metres).

The talented Phillip Stokes runner commanded more than three times the amount of money as the second pick in Star Missile ($5). He held well over half the investment at nearly 60 percent.

Sweeping around the field five and six wide, jockey John Allen timed his run perfectly as the pair swept past Sizzleme ($10) with Starouz ($9) third.

BETS: Mr Quickie $2,000 @ $2, $3,158 @ $1.95, $3,000 @ $1.95, $2,000 @ $1.95 MULTIPLE TIMES, $7,000 @ $1.90, $4,500 @ $1.90, $3,000 @ $1.90, $5,000 @ $1.85
