RANDWICK

RACE ONE

Athiri was an easing favourite but did the job for her backers who stuck solid in the Quincy Seltzer Handicap (1200 metres).

A heavily backed favourite last time out when having no luck, those punters who buttered up again saw her drift from $4 in the morning out to as much as $5 before a late rally saw her jump $4.80 fav in an open affair.

Given a gun run by Rachel King, Athiri came with a big sprint down the Randwick straight to overhaul the leaders and relegate Prime Star ($5.50) and Jay Jay D’ar ($15) to the minor end of the prize.

Prime Candidate ($5.50-$7) and Zakat ($5.50) were extremely popular while Bound To Win ($5.50) held the most but blew her chances at the start.

BETS: Prime Star $1,000 @ $5.50

BETS: Athiri $2,000 @ $4.80, $1,000 @ $4.60

BETS: Bound To Win $1,000 @ $5.50 TWICE, $1,188 @ $5, $1,000 @ $5

BETS: Prime Candidate $1,000 @ $7 TWICE

RACE TWO

One of the most popular horses all day was It’s Me.

The Brett Cavanough-trained galloper went around with 62 percent of the money in the TAB Highway Class 2 Handicap (1000 metres) and didn’t disappoint her admirers.

Jason Collett had the daughter of Shamus Award back third last on straightening, however, she unleashed her customary finishing burst to overhaul the frontrunners and charge away for an impressive win.

Crackneck ($61) and Toto ($21-$15) filled the minor end of the prize.

It’s Me was very popular with multi players and went around in this race with seven times the amount of money than any other runner.

BETS: It’s Me $3,000 @ $1.95, $2,000 @ $1.95, $1,500 @ $1.95 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,100 @ $1.95, $1,000 @ $1.95 MULTIPLE TIMES, $5,000 @ $1.90, $4,000 @ $1.90, $1,000 @ $1.90 MULTIPLE TIMES, $32,000 @ $1.85, $2,292 @ $1.80 TWICE + $1,116

BETS: Toro Toro $1,000 x $2,000 e/w @ $9/$2.60

RACE THREE

The Shoot Out Mile (1600 metres) turned out to be a keen betting affair with Discharged leading throughout and landing some nice bets.

Rated a treat by Adam Hyeronimus, Discharged kicked strongly at the top of the straight to get the job done as a $4.80 chance. When markets opened on Wednesday, TAB had him as a $7.50 chance.

Opacity ($3.90-$4.80) got the wobbles late in betting but held the most money while Think It Over ($7-$5.50) and Cinquedea ($9.50-$5.50) had plenty of admirers.

Matowi ($15-$10) was one of the notable firmers in the race.

BETS: Discharged $2,000 @ $4.80, $1,000 @ $4.40

BETS: Think It Over $5,000 @ $5.50, $1,000 @ $5.50

BETS: Opacity $1,600 @ $4.80, $1,000 @ $4.80, $2,000 @ $4.60, $1,000 @ $4.60, $1,000 @ $4.20, $1,950 @ $4, $1,000 @ $3.90 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Cinquedea $2,000 x $500 e/w @ $6.50/$2.20, $1,500 e/w @ $6/$2.20, $1,000 @ $5.50 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE FOUR

The money told the story in the Darley Tea Rose Stakes (1400 metres).

Dame Giselle and Hungry Heart were head and shoulders above the rest in terms of money held, going around with a whopping 75 percent of the total investment.

Earlier in the week there was a fair bit between them in terms of price as Dame Giselle opened $3.60 and Hungry Heart was even money.

Today, the gap between them closed with Dame Giselle going $3-$2.60 and Hungry Heart, which touched odds-on at one point early in the week, drifting from $2-$2.40.

BETS: Dame Giselle $2,000 e/w @ $3/$1.35, $1,579 @ $2.90, $1,500 @ $2.90, $5,000 @ $2.70, $3,000 @ $2.70, $2,900 @ $2.70, $2,250 @ $2.70, $2,000 @ $2.70, $1,000 @ $2.70

BETS: Hungry Heart $4,750 @ $2.40, $3,000 @ $2.40, $2,000 @ $2.40 TWICE, $1,350 @ $2.40, $1,800 @ $2.35, $7,000 @ $2.30, $2,500 @ $2.30, $1,000 @ $2.30, $2,000 @ $2.25, $2,000 @ $2.20, $1,750 @ $2.15, $1,000 @ $2.10, $1,000 @ $2

RACE FIVE

TAB customers only wanted to be on Probabeel heading into the Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400 metres).

The Kiwi was the most popular runner on the card at Randwick today and commanded nearly 60 percent of the money in this race. Probabeel went around nearly seven times as popular as anything else in the event.

TAB went up $6 on Wednesday and punters didn’t waste any time jumping aboard. The money then continued for the rest of the week and into today, where she firmed from $2.70 into a dominant $2.40 favourite.

Brandenburg, $11 on Wednesday, was popular with eachway punters on the day and jumped at $6 while Reloaded blew out from $3.80 favouritism to start $6.50. Roheryn ($5.50-$7.50) carried a few big bets too.

BETS: Probabeel $4,000 @ $2.70, $5,000 @ $2.50 TWICE, $5,000 @ $2.40, $2,000 @ $2.40 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $2.40, $5,000 @ $2.35, $2,000 @ $2.35

BETS: Brandenburg $1,500 @ $6 TWICE

BETS: Roheryn $6,000 @ $7.50, $2,000 @ $7.50

RACE SIX

Verry Elleegant was a very costly proposition in the Fujitsu George Main Stakes (1600 metres).

One of the best backed runners all day, Verry Elleegant was backed into $2.15 after $2.30 earlier in the day but she commanded well over half the total investment.

The mare held 3.5 times as much money as anything else in the Group One with Avilius ($4.60-$5.50) next best supported.

Kolding ($11-$9.50) wasn’t without admirers and did have some good specking at the eachway odds.

BETS: Verry Elleegant $3,000 @ $2.30, $1,500 @ $2.30 MULTIPLE TIMES, $7,100 @ $2.10, $4,218 @ $2.10, $4,000 @ $3.10, $3,000 @ $2.10 TWICE, $2,000 @ $2.10, $1,000 @ $2.10 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Dreamforce $2,000 @ $6.50, $1,000 @ $6 TWICE

BETS: Avilius $3,000 @ $5.50, $1,000 e/w @ $5.50/$2.50, $1,000 @ $5.50

RACE SEVEN

The late firm in betting for Classique Legend was very telling in the Bowermans Commercial Furniture Shorts (1100 metres).

Being very solid in the market at $5 for most of the day, the Les Bridge-trained runner firmed into $4.40 in the final minutes of betting and showed a tremendous turn of foot to score a sensational win.

In terms of the popularity stakes there was very little separating Dirty Work ($7-$5.50-$6.50), Bivouac ($4-$5) and Standout ($10 on Wednesday, $4.60-$5.50) along with the winner.

Catalyst had good support at the eachway odds also but went $8-$10-$9.50.

BETS: Classique Legend $1,000 @ $5, $1,000 @ $4.80, $1,000 @ $4.40

BETS: Dirty Work $2,500 @ $6, $2,200 @ $5.50

BETS: Greyworm $1,000 @ $12

BETS: Standout $1,000 @ $6, $1,000 @ $5.50

BETS: Bivouac $6,000 @ $4.60, $1,000 @ $4.40

BETS: Catalyst $7,000 @ $9.50

RACE EIGHT

Taikomochi was kept safe in betting for the Schweppes Kingston Town Stakes (2000 metres).

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained runner opened $10 and got to $11 at one point before starting $9.50 – just one of four runners in single figures.

Hitting the front midway down the running, Tim Clark threw everything at Taikomochi to fend off the challenge of the money horse Shared Ambition ($4.80-$4-$4.20) with Brimham Rocks ($$17) in third.

Zebrowski ($5.50), which went around with the most money in the race, was fourth after having a good run behind the speed.

Rondinella ($16-$9.50) was a notable firm on the day in a move which began on Wednesday when $34 was on offer.

BETS: Girl Tuesday $1,500 @ $13, $1,000 @ $12, $5,000 @ $11

BETS: Shared Ambition $1,000 @ $4.40, $4,000 @ $3.20, $3,000 @ $4.20, $2,500 e/w @ $4.20/$1.90, $1,500 @ $4.20, $1,000 @ $4.20 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Zebrowski $5,000 e/w @ $6/$2.30, $5,000 @ 45.50, $2,000 @ $5.50

RACE NINE

It wasn’t a great way to end the day at Randwick for TAB customers with Criaderas a costly proposition in the Tresemme Handicap (1400 metres).

The Godolphin runner was crunched from $2.50 in the morning into as low as $1.90 just minutes out of the from jump. Eventually it would get back out to $2.15.

One of the best supported gallopers all day, Criaderas held more than double what the next best backed did which was Icebath ($4.20).

Petronius ($8.50-$5.50) was the only other runner in single figures while Academy ($15-$17-$14) only had light support.

BETS: Criaderas $5,000 @ $2.15, $5,000 @ $2, $4,000 @ $2, $3,000 @ $2, $1,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $1.90 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Icebath $1,500 @ $4.40, $1,000 @ $4.40, $1,250 @ $4.20, $1,000 @ $4, $1,000 x $2,000 e/w @ $3.90/$1.55, $5,900 @ $3.60

CAULFIELD

RACE ONE

In a very competitive betting affair to kick things off at Caulfield, every runner in the Longboard Accountants for Mirable Handicap (1600 metres) had some sort of decent investment riding on them.

In the end it was left to the late push for Wise Counsel ($6-$5.50) which paid dividends thanks to a good ride by Jye McNeil.

The Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace runner sat fourth in the run before peeling out on the final bend and finishing best to beat Divine Diosa ($6.50-$5.50) and Queen Of Rocks ($6.50) with the leader Tanker ($15-$12) holding fourth.

Wise Counsel was very solid throughout the day and was $6 before firming late.

Celestial Sol ($3.10-$5) was the best tried throughout the week but blew out late in betting while Cumberbatch bottomed out at $4.40 off good money in the morning but also got out late to start $5.50.

RACE TWO

Ancestry defied the betting drift to lead throughout in the Arrowfield For Living Legends Handicap (1200 metres).

Opening the day as a $3 chance, the son of The Brothers War lost favouritism after getting out to $4.60 at the jump. Groundswell, which had good money overnight, firmed from $5 in the morning to start a $4 fav. Groundswell held more than twice as much money as Ancestry which went around as the third more popular horse in terms of money held.

Of the others, Legionnaire ($4.80) had plenty of admirers and was the second most popular behind Groundswell.

BETS: Ancestry $1,000 @ $4.40

BETS: Groundswell $1,000 @ $4.20 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $4

BETS: Legionnaire $2,500 @ $4.80, $2,720 @ $4.60, $1,500 @ $4.40, $1,000 @ $4.40

RACE THREE

Muntaseera landed some nice investments when finishing too strong from her rivals in the 4CYTE for Living Legends Handicap (1000 metres).

Jumping as a $3.50 favourite, earlier in the day the Maher & Eustace runner was displaced at the top of the market by Forever Free ($3.80-$3.40-$3.90) but in the latter stages of betting it was Munstaseera the punters wanted.

The pair were easily the best tried in the race and commanded 61 percent of the entire hold on the race.

Valaquenta ($5.50), which had backing earlier in the week at double figure odds, was next best in terms of popularity.

BETS: Muntaseera $1,500 @ $3.90, $2,000 @ $3.50, $1,200 @ $3.50, $1,000 X $2,000 e/w @ $3.50/$1.50, $1,000 @ $3.40

BETS: Valaquenta $5,000 @ $5.50, $3,000 @ $5.50, $1,000 @ $5.50

BETS: Forever Free $1,000 @ $3.90, $1,700 @ $3.40

RACE FOUR

From Within caused a serious upset when leading throughout in The Henley Homes APC Handicap (1100 metres).

Given little hope by TAB customers, From Within was $21-$34 at one stage in betting before some late nibbles saw it jump a $26 chance.

Rated a treat by Daniel Moor, From Within held off the very popular Front Page ($2.40) which went around with nearly as much money as anything else across the country.

William Thomas ($7.50-$5.50) was best tried to beat it while Octane ($3.60-$4.40) was a drifter on the day but had its fair share of investments too.

Front Page was responsible for over half the market.

BETS: Front Page $1,000 @ $2.50, $5,000 @ $2.40, $3,000 @ $2.40 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,500 @ $2.40, $1,000 @ $2.40 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $2.30, $1,000 @ $2.30 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Octane $1,000 @ $4.20, $1,145 @ $3.60

RACE FIVE

The push for Zousonic failed to come off in the PFD Food Services for NJT Handicap (1400 metres).

Backed from $7-$5.50, she was the strongest push in the race in front of Parmie ($6), which attracted its fair share of support once again.

Fabric ($7) always seems to have support whenever it goes around and today was no different, with strong eachway backing for the Danny O’brien galloper.

BETS: Fabric $2,000 e/w @ $7/$2.50

BETS: Parmie $1,000 @ $6, $2,000 @ $5.50

RACE SIX

Odeum was the villain for TAB customers after the strong move for Aidensfield came unstuck in the Aquis Jim Moloney Stakes for Pinchapoo (1400 metres).

The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr runner was a $26 chance at the jump and although coming in for some light support at the price, was overshadowed in betting by Aidensfield which was nearly twice as popular as anything else.

Such was the support for Aidensfield ($3.80-$3.20) that it surpassed Mozzie Monster ($2.90-$3.90) for favouritism.

TAB initially offered $6 about Aidensfield’s chances when markets opened on Wednesday.

Of the others, Hindaam ($12-$7) was a notable move on the day while Agreeable ($4.80-$6) had support but continued to drift throughout the afternoon.

BETS: Aidensfield $1,000 @ $3.60, $5,000 @ $3.30

BETS: Mozzie Monster $5,000 @ $3.80, $10,000 @ $1.45 PLACE

RACE SEVEN

One of the best backed horses all day was Orderofthegarter in the Catanach’s Jewellers MRC Foundation Cup (2000 metres).

Danny O’brien’s stable rep was three times as popular as anything else in the race and was backed from $3.80 in the morning into a dominant $2.90 favourite.

Orderofthegarter, $4 on Wednesday, held 40 percent of the total investment on the race.

There were small moves for other runners including Steel Prince ($17-$10) and Chapada ($41-$21-$23) which ran right up to that backing by filling the minors behind the winner.

Dr Drill ($6.50) was the most popular runner outside the winner while Game Keeper ($7.50-$10) and Kinane ($7.50-$10) had supporters.

BETS: Orderofthegarter $2,000 @ $3.80, $3,000 @ $3.40, $1,500 @ $3.40, $2,500 @ $3.10, $5,500 @ $3, $5,000 @ $3, $4,000 @ $3, $3,000 @ $3, $2,000 @ $3 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $3, $2,000 @ $2.90, $1,000 @ $2.90 TWICE

BETS: Steel Prince $4,000 @ $16

BETS: Kinane $1,500 e/w @ $10/$3.10

BETS: Dabiyr $1,000 @ $13

BETS: Mahamedeis $5,000 e/w @ $16/$4.40

RACE EIGHT

Behemoth landed countless big bets in taking out the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400 metres).

Popular all week with TAB customers after opening at $5, he was backed from $4.40 into $3.80 late with most of the money in the final 10 minutes of betting going his way.

It was a disastrous result for TAB which copped a six-figure loss on the race thanks to the big bets and multis rolling through the David Jolly runner.

Cascadian was a good push overnight and into today, with the Godolphin rep firming $13-$8.50 in the last 24 hours.

Superstorm ($11) carried some big money and was third best tried after the two abovementioned horses, while Tagaloa ($8-$11) and Banquo ($9.50-$7) had plenty of supporters.

BETS: Behemoth $1,000 @ $4.80, $2,000 e/w @ $4.60/$1.85, $2,500 @ $4, $2,250 @ $4, $2,000 @ $4, $1,600 @ $4, $1,000 @ $4, $4,500 @ $3.90, $1,000 @ $3.90 MULTIPLE TIMES, $12,500 @ $3.80

BETS: Cascadian $1,000 @ $8.50

BETS: Banquo $3,000 @ $7, $1,000 @ $7 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Superstorm $1,000 @ $11

BETS: Harlech $2,000 x $1,000 e/w @ $26/$7

RACE NINE

Felicia defied a slight drift in betting to cause a minor boilover in the final event of the day from Caulfield.

Although a clear second pick at $5.50 (out from $4.80), Felicia was clearly overshadowed in the popularity stakes by Godolphin rep Lyre ($2.50-$2.20) which was sensationally backed throughout the day.

Such was the weight of money riding on Lyre that she was one of the best supported runners across the country.

She commanded nearly 60 percent of the hold and was six times as popular as the winner.

BETS: Felicia $1,000 @ $5.50, $2,000 @ $5, $1,000 @ $4.60, $1,000 @ $4.40

BETS: Lyre $1,500 @ $2.40, $10,000 @ $2.20, $8,400 @ $2.20, $5,888 @ $2.20, $4,000 @ $2.20
