Microphone has opened favourite for the Golden Rose

Today, TAB opened three exciting feature races of the 2019 Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. The Group 1 weight-for-age Golden Rose, The Group 1 Epsom Handicap over the mile and The Kosciuszko. TAB’s Gerard Middleton had plenty to share regarding each of the races.

“Colts traditionally dominate The Golden Rose and this year looks to be no different. It is impossible to go past this year’s Inglis Sires’ winner and Golden Slipper runner-up Microphone. He heads the betting with the other Godolphin runner Tassort who was a one-time favourite for The Golden Slipper before going to the paddock early with an injury. Prince Fawaz was impressive winning the J J Atkins at Eagle Farm on Saturday for Anthony Cummings and will be trying to emulate The Autumn Sun who did the double last year.”

The Epsom Handicap run on October 5 has two four-year-old stars at the top of proceedings. The West Australian runner Arcadia Queen and the Doncaster Mile winner Brutal are both $8 and also head the betting for the $7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill on November 2.

“Kolding was ultra-impressive winning the Queensland Guineas for Chris Waller and a race like the TAB Epsom looks an ideal race for him in the spring.”

The Kosciuszko is the world’s richest race for country-trained horses run on October 19 on TAB Everest day at Royal Randwick.

“This year is shaping up to be a very strong edition of The Kosciuszko ad we couldn’t split Victorem and Noble Boy who head the market at $4.50. They are both proven performers at the top level and both love Randwick. Victorem won the Country Championships Final in 2018 for Jenny Graham, while Noble Boy won the same race this year for Todd Blowes. It’s a deep market with plenty of chances and there will no doubt be plenty of betting interest.”
