Newcastle Cup Tips, Field, Betting, Odds & Horse Previews – 2026

The feature race at Newcastle this Friday is the Newcastle Cup (2300m), where Aethewulf dominates betting.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for 2026 Newcastle Cup.

2026 Newcastle Cup Runner Preview:

1. Changingoftheguard: Changingoftheguard is an improver at odds. He resumed in the Premiers Cup a few weeks back where he was tardy away, settled off speed and failed to come on behind Boniface. He has class on his side and can run a much improved race.

2. So You Are: SCR

3. Bella Montagna: Had her chance in the Wyong Cup but was first up and has good upside…think she is a must for exotics.

4. Age Of Sail: Home track advantage but looks outclassed.

5. Elliptical: Honest, racing really well…just finding it really hard to win and I don’t think can take this out. First four at best.

6. Aethewulf: Aethelwulf should be winning. He is a very progressive stayer for Matty Smith that has been stunning in recent starts/wins and looks every bit a stayer of the future. This is clearly a significant class/depth rise but confident he’ll handle it.

7. Amplify: Amplify comes back to 2300m after racing over 2400m in the City Tatts Cup at Randwick a couple of weeks ago. She was outclassed on paper but I thought ran a super race in defeat behind So You Are. She is one for exotics.

8. Steel Blaze: Wasn’t bad in the Wyong Cup but will likely run last here.

2026 Newcastle Cup $100 Betting Strategy:

$100 Place Changingoftheguard

2026 Newcastle Cup Speed Map

If he jumps clean, Changingoftheguard should lead for fun. So You Are settles handy, likewise Aethewulf while Steel Blaze potentially lands box seat from the inside gate.
