Follow and Forget – 26/09/2015

There was some great racing right across Australia on Saturday, with the feature race being the Underwood Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield. Who caught our attention on the track? Find out down below:

Race Four Number 2 Flamboyant Lass (2nd):

This girl was enormous in defeat. She was a month between runs, was rising from 1000m to 1400m and had to overcome a wide barrier as well as cop pressure on speed. Only beaten by a tough country filly who has performed well at Stakes level previously. She’s classy and wouldn’t look out of place in the Flight Stakes/Thousand Guineas.

Race Five Number 7 Clash Of Clans (4th):

I’m not going to drop off this horse as a Spring Champion contender. He has been ridden very aggressively at his past two outings. He tired late in the piece at Newcastle, and he did the same here, but he was entitled to run further back than fourth. I think a conservative ride in the Spring Champion and he can cause an upset.

Caulfield:

Race Five Number 1 Pasadena Girl (5th):

This girl went enormous. Totally not suited by the pedestrian tempo, and got badly checked on a couple of occasions in the straight, but she was good late. Clearly the horse I want to be on in the Thousand Guineas.

Race Six Number 16 Tulsa (2nd):

He is a star this horse. He just needs to put it all together in between his ears and he will be winning a Group l, maybe more. He is a leading chance in the Guineas, but I think races like the Caulfield Classic and Derby look perfect for him.

Race Seven Number 9 Mongolian Khan (4th):

Derby winner who is spot on for the Cups. Got left flat footed when The Cleaner booted for home, but his last 200m was excellent and Murray Baker has him ticking over beautifully for the two big handicaps.

FORGET:

Rosehill:

Race Six Number 2 Catkins in Group l races (5th):

No excuses for her here. Bowman gave her every chance but she was gone on the turn. She will go down as one of the best horses to have never won a Group l.

Caulfield:

Race Eight Number 7 Rich Enuff (6th):

Yes he got checked badly at the top of the straight, but he was gone anyway. He just hasn’t fired a shot this time, and I think the R word might be on the cards for this horse. Very ordinary effort here.

This was an absolute peach. Sat outside Two Blue and just controlled the tempo throughout. He may have pushed the button a touch early on Pearls last weekend, but he got it 100% here and rode his horse to win, not worrying about Catkins.

All Clear:

I couldn’t really find a slaughter today. Maybe a little warning to Hugh Bowman on Good Project, but he really didn’t have many options.
