The longerĀ Geegees MistruthĀ has been with the Mark WalkerĀ stable at Cranbourne theĀ more they have grown to love her.
The Tasmanian-raised four-year-old only joined the Walker stable last spring after being prepared by Stuart Gandy.
A winner of six of her 15 starts,Ā GeegeesĀ Mistruth is winless on the mainland, but the Walker team is hopeful that may change in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Assistant-trainer Ben Gleeson said the stable had gone in with a plan for Saturday’s race to keep the mare on the fresh side.
And Gleeson said the less than capacity field was also ideal forĀ GeegeesĀ Mistruth.
GeegeesĀ Mistruth has had three runs for the Walker stable, finishing in the placings on each occasion.
She started her most recent campaign finishing third over 1000m at Caulfield onĀ January 24 butĀ has since been back to the jump-outs, scoring on February 9.
“She trialled up impressively andĀ we’veĀ intentionally gone a month between runs, second-up, which her record is two wins, two seconds,” Gleeson said.
“She flies with that little bit of freshness in her.
“SheĀ couldn’tĀ have trialled any better and her gallop on Tuesday was excellent.
“TheĀ less than capacityĀ field suits as she can find trouble in the run, but the extra 100 metres is good and hopefully those gaps come easier for her.”
Gleeson saidĀ GeegeesĀ Mistruth had been tricky to train, but the longerĀ she’sĀ been in the stable the better the grasp they have on the mare.
“We’veĀ tried a few different things with her training, and we think thatĀ it’sĀ working,” Gleeson said.
“She’sĀ a trick to train, but we love her, and we thinkĀ we’veĀ got the best of her now and hopefully on Saturday she shows it.”
