Profiteer is the odds on favourite in Saturday's Inglis Millennium

In highlighting the Classic Yearling Sale on 7,8,9 February at Riverside Stables, the $2m Inglis Millennium returns to Royal Randwick where it was first run as the Inglis Classic in 1998.

A top-line juvenile sire making event, what chance does the $1.90 Sportsbet favourite Profiteer have in emulating the first $2m Millennium winner Castelvecchio, who was a $20 race winner.

The winner of his only start by 2.75 lengths over the Flemington 1100m, he’ll be ridden by Hugh Bowman from gate six, for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr and the Newgate Farm syndicate.

As a previous race winner, Castelvecchio won the $2m Inglis Millennium of 1100m, before winning the Champagne Stakes, and third in ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Skyline Stakes at Randwick.

At three he was second in the Spring Champion Stakes, second again in the valuable WS Cox Plate when unable to hold-off Japanese star Lys Gracieux, then winning the classic Rosehill Guineas.

Following a power pack career Castelvecchio was retired to Arrowfield Stud having been a $150,000 Classic Yearling Sale graduate from Arrowfield, with his first weanlings crop selling this year.

The first crop of successful Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Dundeel, Castelvecchio is half-brother to the Spring Champion Stakes winner Maid of Heaven, the family of top-line sprinter Planet Ruler.

Profiteer heads Capitalist’s three runners with the Doomben 2YO winner Mystic Gem at $2i, jumps from five for Jason Collett and Garry Nickson trained Mandalong Cash at $51 with Andrew Banks.

A $165,000 buy at the Classic Yearling Sale from Newgate Farm, Profiteer is by the Champion 2YO Colt Capitalist from Gr3 placed winner Athena Lass, the family of Danglissa and Sweet Redemption.

Second on Leading First Season Sire table, Capitalist also has Captivant as the winner of the Victory Vein Plate at Randwick and the filly Mozzarella being an 800m 2yo winner at Riccerton.

Yes, both Profiteer and Castelvecchio have all the credentials to match the 2002 Inglis 2YO Classic winner Choisir, who has Malkovich at $19 for the Inglis Sprint, to be ridden by Rachael King.

In also siring the 2008 Inglis 2YO Classic winner Miss Independent, the now retired Choisir has been a consistent top-class stallion siring 12 Group 1 winners world-wide and over $85m in stakes.

His Champion Australian and European Sprinting son Starspangledbanner won the Royal Ascot Golden Jubilee Stakes and has sired the Royal Ascot winners The Wow Signal and Anthem Alexander.

Olympic Glory was European Champion Miler, Obviously the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, Sacred Choice the Doncaster Hcp., Divine Profit, Historian, Japonisme, The Last Lion, The Mission, Kushadasi.

Purchased by trainer Paul Perry for $55,000 at the Classic Yearling Sale in 2000, he’s by the Champion British Sire Danehill Dancer, and was Champion Australian 2YO Colt in 2001-02.

At three Choisir won the Lightning Stakes and Emirates Classic, while in Britain he was Champion Older Sprinter in 2003 winning the Golden Jubilee Stakes and King’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.

In being a proven valuable sire Choisir has six yearlings entered in this Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, with his Caulfield Guineas winning son Divine Profit and Starspangledbanner also having lots.

Following the success of the Gold Coast Yearlings and Karaka 2021, this Classic Yearling Sale also has First Season Sires Hellbent, Russian Revolution, Merchant Navy, Almanzor, Pariah, Churchill.

.

In both Hellbent and his sire I Am Invincible being Classic Yearling graduates, Hellbent has 34 yearlings selling at this Sale, while I Am Invincible has 9, both with the majority from Yarraman Park.

As leading First Crop Sire at the Magic Millions Hellbent’s 30 lots sold for $5.5m, at an average of $185,833 with Heinrich Bloodstock buying his top priced Jalan Jalan filly for $500,000.

Again, I Am Invincible continues to dominate the Gold Coast Magic Millions, and was leading sire with his Maastricht filly selling for $1.2m, and his 44 lots selling for $23.9m at an average of $544,545.

As a leading First Season Sire, Capitalist has 23 selling at this Classic Sale, and at the Gold Coast his 36 yearlings averaging $242,917, with James Herron buying his Golconda colt for $975,000.

The popularity of French Derby winner Almanzor continues with Bhima having three of his six lots at Riverside, while his Lazumba colt made $800,000 at the Gold Coast and at Karaka 2021 his half-brother to Subpoenaed sold for $560,000 to Chris Waller Racing and partners.
