The Premiere Stakes is a Group 2 race held under weight for age conditions. This 1200 metre race is now held at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney, where it is now held on the same day as the Group 1 Epsom Handicap. Originally held in 1972, the Premiere Stakes has become an important part of the Australian racing season.

Due to the level weight playing field, the Premier Stakes manages to attract a high quality field every year. Some of the recent names to have graced the winners list include Triple Honour in 2008, Kroner and Mentality in 2009, Hot Danish in 2010, and Neeson in 2011.
In 2011, winner Neeson went on to place third in the Missile Stakes, as well as taking third in the Group 3 Tramway Quality Handicap and the Group 3 Cameron Handicap. Neeson won the 2011 edition of the Premiere Stakes ahead of Hurtle Myrtle in second place and Love Conquers All in third.
