The Lexus Stakes is a Group 3 horse race that takes place during the spring racing carnival in Melbourne every November. Open to all ages and held under handicap conditions, the Lexus Stakes is run over a distance of 2500 metres. The winner of the Lexus Stakes is exempt from ballot for the Melbourne Cup, with many horses using this event as a final lead-up to the famous race held three days later.

The Lexus Stakes has a long and rich history in Australian racing, with the first event held way back in 1869. However, the Lexus Stakes has undergone a number of name changes over this time, where it has been known as the VRC The Dalgety and Saab Quality among others. This event was a Principal Race up until 1979, which is when it gained Group 3 status.
While it enjoyed Group 2 status for a few years between 1981 and 2004, it was recently down graded back to a Group 3 event. Some of the more well known horses to have won the Lexus Stakes include Star Binder in 1998, Don Raphael in 2004, and Maluckyday in 2010. However, the most famous race took place in 1965, with a triple dead heat between Fighting Force (J. Purtell), Ark Royal (R. Heather) and Pandie Sun (W. Williamson).
The 2011 edition of the Lexus Stakes was won by Niwot, who took the lead ahead of Macedonian in second position and Anudjawan in third.
