9/7/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben, Pam O’Neill Stakes day

A bumper ten race card has been set down for Doomben this Saturday, with a couple of feature races on the program. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.

4 Mort Doyle (Bet Now: $9.00) is an each way bet in the opener. He brings the strong form lines leading into this, backing up from last Saturday at the Sunny Coast when a game fourth to Goldsborough, who is a borderline Stakes class sprinter. That has to read well for a 0MW, and he gets run of the race from the gate.

14 Be Water My Friend (Bet Now: $5.00) has been somewhat maligned throughout his career but I think he is back on track under the care of Matty Park. He resumed over this track/distance at the midweeks when back off the speed and chased strongly when second to Rapid Response. With natural improvement, he’ll take beating.

10 Maya Bay (Bet Now: $13.00) is a key threat. Team Sears trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since Feb 20 at Ipswich when four wide for the trip and tired late, but entitled to given the run. Resumes without a trial, but you’d assume has had a jumpout or two to get ready and he does sprint well fresh.

5 The Vowels (Bet Now: $3.90) comes to town as a last start winner, getting the job done at Rockhampton when a $1.45 favourite and making a mess of an average lot. The debut run was pretty good and I do think the rise to 1350m is ideal. Needs to improve but he looks as if he can and will.

6 Minks Star (Bet Now: $3.10) comes right into the mix if this track can dry out some more. He has been plain in two runs on soft ground so firmer the better. far from disgraced in the Oxlade four weeks ago at Eagle Farm against the race shape, he was back and made up some headway. Gate one should be used to advantage and gets KWT to steer.

3 Hattusa (Bet Now: $5.50) is racing in a purple patch for Helen Page. Strong winner to break the maiden tag two back on the home track at the Gold Coast. Then went to Ipswich when a rank outsider but she got conditions to suit and finished best to win well. Harder here, but think she can measure up.

2 Subterranean (Bet Now: $3.00) is hard to beat for Matty Dunn. Three weeks between runs since an impressive win at this trip on Ipswich Cup Day, finding better ground and wearing down Indiscreetly to win nicely. Was down to run last Saturday in the Winx Guineas but was scratched due to the bog. Hopefully the track is okay and if he holds his form, he’s the one to beat.

The fact 1 Alpine Edge (Bet Now: $3.20) is running here tells me he’s come through the Healy in good order. Took on the older horses when wide no cover for the trip but even allowing for that, he was quite weak at the end. Back to his own age, if he can’t go close here, I doubt he’ll be a Carnival horse ever again.

9 The Kewess (Bet Now: $9.00) should love the rise to 1350m for Kelly Schweida, a stable that is in good form. Loved the way he attacked the line to win two back at the Sunny Coast before going here at the midweeks and worked home strongly late behind a handy horse, Cudyado. The rise to 1350m is a tick. Just needs to settle closer in the run.

2 Tilianam (Bet Now: $3.10) is hard to beat for Tony Gollan. Formerly with WaterBott, she had her first run for Tony Gollan two weeks ago at Eagle Farm and under a peach from Bowman, she finished best and was strong late to win and win well. Like her up to 1350m and that was her first run in six weeks, so she has upside and improvement to come.

5 Fearnought (Bet Now: $7.50) is dangerous. Chris Waller trained filly that ran behind Tilianam two weeks back at Eagle Farm where she didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight but was good late when eventually clear. Has placed at the trip before and hopefully can get her chance to let down.

7 Karaoke Queen (Bet Now: $15.00) is a knockout chance. O’Dea/Hosyed trained filly that resumed at the midweeks here over 1200m when off the speed and chased strongly in defeat when third to a handy horse in Cudyado. Fitter, up in trip, down in the weights, she appeals.

11 Safework (Bet Now: $15.00) is a hard horse to catch but the resumption was encouraging, which came two weeks back at Eagle Farm where he was outside a moderate speed and that helped him fight on as well as he did when second to Uncommon James. I reckon that form reads well and has the good racing style.

1 Garibaldi… (Bet Now: $4.00) if you can catch him, you can catch Usain Bolt. He could easily blow this field away with his best but he could also run midfield and fail to fire. He was good fresh in the Lightning, finishing second to Boomnova. He then went to the Healy where he bombed the start and that sealed his fate, making up good ground without threatening. If he jumps clean and can sit handy, he likely wins.

4 Mass Destruction (Bet Now: $4.80) is getting towards D-Day for Tony Gollan. He ran a strong third two back in the Hinkler to Ranges before racing two weeks back in the Healy where he got back and failed to come on in a plain effort behind Juan Diva. If he’s ever going to bounce back into form, it’s in a race like this.

16 Delyth (Bet Now: $3.40) on top in what looks a race in two. Progressive mare for Barry Baldwin that is looking to make it three wins on the bounce. Has bolted up in her last two starts/wins, the latest being at the Sunny Coast where she made a mess of them and ran time. 52kg, handles wet ground, hard fit, in form, it points to her.

3 Proper Rogue (Bet Now: $3.40) is an interesting runner. Formerly with the Price/Kent camp, he now finds himself with Tony Gollan. I reckon 1200m sees him right out, so 1200m fresh tells me he’s ready to go. Trialled sharply at Deagon, winning that trial. Maps ideally, loves getting his feet wet, he appeals.

1 Tramonto (Bet Now: $8.00) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. He ran two weeks back at Eagle Farm behind Uncommon James and to the eye, it was just a run, but the race shape was clearly against him, so forget he went around. He can run an improved race with a more genuine tempo.

4 Uncommon James (Bet Now: $1.50) looks a very progressive three year old for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp and confident he can win again. I was his corner with confidence when he resumed two weeks ago at Eagle Farm and yes, he had the A1 run in transit behind the speed, but even allowing for that, he was still dominant and ran time in doing so. He’s destined for better things so happy to be in his corner again.

3 Rubiquitous (Bet Now: $4.80) is a short course specialist so 1110m at Doomben I do like. Fresh legs when racing three weeks ago over 1100m at Ipswich where he was near the speed throughout and fought on quite gamely when a narrow third to Princess Bojack. Fitter and back to a track he likes, with sustained speed, he’ll take beating.

10 Putontheredlight (Bet Now: $6.50) is dangerous with the map. Handy filly for Tony Gollan that ran behind Tilianam two weeks back at Eagle Farm and was good late from off the speed to finish third. If she can hold the back of likely leader Rubiquitous, she’ll be dangerous late.

5 Simply Fly (Bet Now: $6.00) is a hard horse to follow and trust with confidence but he is a talented animal. Game second to Ranges two back in the Hinkler before going to the Healy two weeks ago where he got back in the run and made up solid headway without threatening behind Juan Diva. Back to this level, he’s hard to beat.

7 Centrefire (Bet Now: $3.90) gets an ideal map in what should be a fast run 1110m. She did a really good job to win the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich where she led throughout and a big tick for her is that she won nearer the inside late, which was quicksand. Back to a fast run 1110m, she’s hard to beat.

Best version of 4 Niedorp (Bet Now: $7.50) is certainly capable…just not sure where she is at. Trialled up super prior to resuming in the Lightning at Eagle Farm and I thought she was a bit on the plain side behind Boomnova. She’s clearly better than that and her best is clearly good enough.

3 Dzsenifer (Bet Now: $6.50) is a ripper for Jack Duncan that is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday in the Glasshouse where she looked the winner when presented, but couldn’t quite hold out Le Gai Soleil. Like her back up to 1600m and on the back up, I think she’ll take beating.

1200m straight to the mile I find interesting with 9 Tycoon Evie (Bet Now: $12.00) but she gets an ideal map to do no work and she is very genuine. Latest run came in the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich where she wasn’t quite in the best ground but far from disgraced behind Centrefire. Not the best of set ups, but she maps well and has good upside.

15 See Marie (Bet Now: $26.00) is a knockout chance. Desleigh Forster trained mare that is three weeks between runs since racing over 1666m at Ipswich where she did a bit of work from the wide gate and that early burn just told late behind Jakama. She has run well at blacktype level before, so she’s in with a shout, especially with her racing pattern.

13 Love Sensation (Bet Now: $4.80) has been pretty good in a couple of runs for Tony Gollan. Solid third here two back behind Roman Aureus before being thrown in the deep end in the Gai Waterhouse and she didn’t disgrace herself at all. I think she’ll love a rise to 1350m adn her best is clearly good enough.

15 Moonan Me (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Brian Smith trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since Jan 22 at Doomben where she got back in the run and was good late behind Roman Aureus. She’s a good fresh horse, so keen to see she goes first up in a solid race. Market will be a good guide.

6 Starla (Bet Now: $21.00) will need luck from the gate, but she’s capable of winning if she gets it. Snagged back to last in the Helen Coughlan and was never a factor but did make up some headway behind Najmaty. Fitter, if she gets a drag into the race, she can be dangerous at a price.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 4 Uncommon James

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 16 Delyth

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 11 Safework
