A bumper nine race card has been set down for the Gold Coast this Saturday, headlined by the AD Hollindale Stakes (1800m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:33) Social Event Hire (Bm78) 1400m
20 Seven’s (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Team Archibald trained gelding that resumes. There is talk that this horse could be aimed at blacktype during the Carnival so if that is the case, he’d want to be going close here despite being first up. He has always shown promise throughout his career and his trial work has been encouraging. Watch the market.
7 Daggers (Bet Now: $2.00) is third up from a spell but is nearing D Day. He ran over 1200m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he was one of the first off the bit but kept chasing and finding the line in defeat behind stablemate Bundella. Hard fit, 1400m, he clearly appeals, but is nearing last chance territory.
5 Deep Respect (Bet Now: $20.00) should be better for the first up run, which came behind Bundella in the race mentioned above when off speed and worked home okay. Not sure he can win, but can run first four at a price.
Race 2. (13:08) Gold Coast City Council (Bm85) 1200m
11 Soothsayer (Bet Now: $5.50) is three weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Eagle Farm. He landed in a decent spot just off speed and was there to win I thought but just found Cosmo Centaurus a touch too good. Bursting to win and is hard to beat here I say.
6 Bundella (Bet Now: $8.50) is in a real purple patch at the moment for Tony Gollan and is one of the hardest to beat. Knuckled down with real purpose a fortnight back at Eagle Farm, and credit to him, he was there to be beaten, but he dug in when required to fend them off and score. Think he can measure up.
21 Now Is The Hour (Bet Now: $3.90) has to be winning this if they have any blacktype aspirations. Poor recovery was found post race after his resumption three weeks ago at Eagle Farm, so he had a reason for the plain finale. If he brings his best, he goes close.
Race 3. (13:43) Ken Russell Memorial Classic 1200m
4 St Gotthard (Bet Now: $2.40) comes here off the back of a debut win over this trip at Warwick Farm. He sat on speed throughout and was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and score. Looks a nice horse and has the 1200m run/win under the belt.
6 Berzelius (Bet Now: $3.70) comes here off the back of a dominant debut win at Doomben when giving them a start and a beating, rounding them up with purpose to score. Like him up to 1200m, T Berry on, he’s a definite contender.
1 Silken Salute (Bet Now: $8.00) is 2/2 to start his career and looks above average. Latest win was over 1400m at Eagle Farm three weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating. Back to 1200m should be fine and he will be strong at the end.
Race 4. (14:18) Silk Stocking 1400m
2 Zaszou (Bet Now: $20.00) is the other horse I want to back. She is a sleeper for me in terms of the Tatts Tiara. Kept on ice since resuming in the Star Kingdom when good late against the pattern. Tick over trial here was very good, maps to settle much closer and be effective late.
13 Ten Deep (Bet Now: $5.50) was backed as if unbeatable when racing three weeks ago at Eagle Farm and the bets were landed, sitting just off speed before being clicked up and away she went to win and win well. Confident she can measure up.
14 Bengal Diamond (Bet Now: $11.00) rises to 1400m after a first up second over 1200m two weeks back at Eagle Farm, closing strongly from off speed but just missed out on the win behind Savagery Vibe. Good upside and rising in trip, she’s dangerous.
Race 5. (14:53) Gold Coast Bracelet 1800m
1 Single Red (Bet Now: $3.40) on top. Kiwi raider for Andrew Forsman that spanked them over the mile at Te Rapa, getting better as the race went on. Extra 200m should ideal, maps to land in a sweet spot, she’ll take beating.
9 Nightline (Bet Now: $27.00) will love getting to 1800m after resuming over the mile two weeks ago in the Princess Stakes where she kept chipping away and finding the line in defeat behind Spicy Lu. Has eyes firmly on the Oaks but off the return, she clearly appeals.
15 Bella Wahine (Bet Now: $51.00) had the pattern in her corner on the Kenso last start but even allowing for that, I liked the way she knuckled down from off speed to get the job done, racing like a rise in trip will suit. Harder here, but think she’ll run well.
Race 6. (15:32) Bat Out Of Hell 1000m
8 Flying Destiny (Bet Now: $3.30) is flying for Michael Freedman and has to be respected. Loved the way he knuckled down to win at Doomben last time, winning over 1110m and was strong to/through the line in winning. 1000m is fine, confident he can measure up and run well.
11 Tonkin (Bet Now: $3.40) is a short course specialist that does appear suited at 1000m. Latest run was in the McCarten when just feeling the pinch at 1100m. Like her fresh at 1000m and her recent tick over trial was sharp.
12 Manolo Bling (Bet Now: $18.00) is a short course specialist and is dangerous. He ran two weeks back at this trip at Eagle Farm and while held was far from disgraced in defeat behind Give Giggles. Better for the run, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 7. (16:08) A.d. Hollindale Stakes 1800m
Big fan of 10 She’s A Hustler (Bet Now: $4.60). Loved her return in the Queen Of The Turf, charging to the line from off speed behind Idle Flyer in a super first up effort. Has eyes on the Doomben Cup/Q22 but I think the way she returned, better set up here, I think she’ll take beating.
1 Half Yours (Bet Now: $4.00), to the eye, was good in the All Aged. Not saying he wasn’t good…but was he flattered by going past tired horses? I say yes, but on the flip side, he was first up at 1400m off a Melbourne Cup, so the fact he went past horses was very encouraging. Class will carry him a long way, he can win for sure…but for mine, I’ll just watch.
11 Miss Joelene (Bet Now: $21.00) loves racing at the Gold Coast and clearly appeals as a knockout hope. Did a really good job against the pattern two weeks back in the Brisbane Handicap, working home with real purpose. Big rider upgrade, a win wouldn’t shock.
Race 8. (16:55) Gold Coast Guineas 1200m
6 Platinum Pantheon (Bet Now: $31.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the card. I think he has the potential to be a rocket, but whether he has eyes on this race or is focused on the Fred Best, not sure. But, he’s a very smart Kiwi that comes here off a big effort at Te Rapa when wide throughout yet kept chasing. If he runs up to his best, he’ll only run well.
14 Sylph (Bet Now: $7.50) should love getting to 1200m. She resumed over 1000m in the Mick Dittman two weeks ago and worked home strongly from the back when third to impressive winner Akaysha. Fitter, 1200m, can settle closer, she takes beating.
3 Aerodrome (Bet Now: $51.00) comes back to 1200m after racing over the mile at Randwick in the Carbine Club when on speed and trying hard but the end of the mile saw him out. Fresh legs and back in trip, she’s dangerous.
Race 9. (17:30) Australian Turf Club Trophy 1200m
1 Hidden Wealth (Bet Now: $2.25) was scratched from the Victory Stakes in preference for this. He resumed in the Ascot Handicap and tried hard from just off speed but couldn’t quite get there when fourth to Spicy Martini. Class is going to carry him a long way.
5 Midnight In Tokyo (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Team Archibald trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, her last run seeing her place in the Nudgee during the Summer Carnival. Looks to have trialled and flies fresh so watch betting.
7 Pereille (Bet Now: $16.00) is a Fastnet Rock gelding that resumes for Tony Gollan. He hasn’t raced since Jan 24 when placing in the Sunny Coast Cup behind Anemacore. Fresh at 1200m does signal intent for mine and his trial work has been quite sharp.
