Eight races will be run and won under the lights at Canterbury this Friday. Weather is fine, track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (18:00) Toyota Forklifts Mdn Hcp 1550m
If this was a 1600m maiden on a big track, 1 Pasima (Bet Now: $SP.00) would almost be bet of the year. He’s a really nice horse for Ciaron Maher that has finished runner up his past two, two back at the Gold Coast in a Magic Millions Maiden before going to Warwick Farm where he got back and made up solid headway behind Dimitrov. Like him up in trip and with a half positive ride, land on speed, he’ll be too good.
2 Miss Chenery (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a coming maiden winner for Chris Waller. She has had two career outings, finishing second each time. Latest run came last Wednesday on the Kenso when leading and giving a solid kick but couldn’t quite see it through behind stablemate, the well tried Misterkipchoge. Good racing style and if the track is playing up/in, she’ll take running down.
5 Resurrected (Bet Now: $SP.00) isn’t racing too bad for Annabel Neasham and is a must for exotics. He sat on a genuine tempo in a Newcastle maiden last time and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite see it through when a close up third to Dunaloce in a blanket finish. Maps to do no work in the run and I’d say is a lock to run top four. Whether he wins is another matter.
Race 2. (18:30) James Squire (Bm64) 1550m
2 Turned Down (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top in what looks a two horse race. John O’Shea trained gelding that debuted over 1250m here and I loved the ticker he showed to fend them off and win. He was there to be beaten but he dug in when required to fend them off and get the job done. 1550m should be fine and IMO, he’ll lead Don Pedro, they’ll control and fight it out. Just think this guy will kick hard.
1 Don Pedro (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Bjorn Baker. It was an ugly watch if you were on him at Randwick last time, getting badly held up when wanting to build the revs…just forget he went around behind Dazzle Legend. Drawn out but will press forward outside the speed and with a class edge, he appeals.
6 Lemaire (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in with a shout. He sat on speed last start in the Cowra Cup and gave a decent sight but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Not Too Bad. Potentially can land box seat, do no work and from there, he could pinch a first four spot at a decent price.
Race 3. (19:00) Ranvet (Bm64) 1250m
2 Les Vampires (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a bit on these if he’s ready to go. GaiBott trained three year old that hasn’t raced since the Spring when down the track in the Up And Coming behind impressive winner and subsequent Group l winner Tom Kitten. Given a good break and has trialed up really well leading in. Despite drawing wide, he’ll press forward, likely lead, and prove too classy.
1 The Years (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Time Test that resumes for GaiBott. This guy had a one run Spring prep, which saw him finish a length away from the win in a blanket finish, won by Scentify. Two trials under the belt to prepare for his return, he lands on speed and he does get in well after the claim.
7 Disney Castle (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope. This filly ran last week at Gosford and gee she should have just about won. She was building into the race very nicely but as soon as that thought was had, she found trouble and pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial. Dangerous at odds if she gets the rub of the green.
Race 4. (19:30) Schweppes (Bm72) 1550m
3 Sonora (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win and I reckon she gets her chance. She ran last Wednesday on the Kenso where she attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but just felt the pinch late in the piece when a close up fourth to Our Maryane. Hard fit and should find the front comfortably. From there, she’ll take running down.
4 Bootscooter (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a last start Saturday metro winner so with that in mind, she has to be respected. That win came at Rosehill three weeks ago where she got a peach from Stanley and in a driving finish, she got the job done. More depth here, and drawn tricky, but she is a mare on the up and heading in the right direction.
7 Hope Uno (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the knockout hopes. This mare ran last Friday night at this track/distance when just off the speed and tried her guts out but just didn’t have the quality to get there when a close up fourth to Arale in an on pace dominated affair. Maps ideally, hard fit, racing well…knockout hope.
Race 5. (20:00) The Agency Real Estate (Bm72) 1900m
4 Unusual Legacy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Chris Waller. This guy has had two runs down under, both at Newcastle, the latest being over 1850m when smashed in betting and duly saluted, giving them an absolute spanking in a dominant display. Progressive, lightly raced, will be strong late and finds a very thin race.
7 Ring Ahoy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Chris Waller after winning last Friday night at this track/distance where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish over the top, breaking a long run of outs. The fact he backs up says to me the horse came through the run super and strikes a similar race to last week.
3 Notabadbuy (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land on speed and give plenty of cheek. GaiBott trained gelding that was a strong winner over the mile at Gosford last time. Credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he fought, fended off and was too good. Looks to get front end control, and that is certainly no disadvantage at Canterbury.
Race 6. (20:30) Kia Evening Star (Bm78) 1250m
8 Rupertaar (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be around the mark for Bjorn Baker. She ran third two weeks back at Randwick when off the speed and tried her guts out but just couldn’t quite get there when a close up third to Tashi. She can settle closer in the run and drawn well, she’ll press forward and take running down.
2 Dehorned Unicorn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the best horse in the race but just not sure where he is at. That said, he brings strong form lines. He ran down the straight at Flemington last time when on speed throughout and he gave a decent kick but just couldn’t quite finish it off behind impressive winner Jungle Jim. Gets in well after the claim and the depth here is nowhere near as deep.
1 Dynamic Impact (Bet Now: $SP.00) is 5/5 at Canterbury so he has to be given serious respect. He ran in the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly when down the track behind Semana. He saves his best for here and with the claim for Bourke, he does get in very well.
Race 7. (21:00) Racing And Sports (Bm64) 1250m
Reckon there is a good roughie to speck here in the shape of 4 Leave Me Some (Bet Now: $SP.00). This mare ran at Rosehill just under four weeks ago where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat behind Diamond Dealer. She has run well at Canterbury previously, she finds a weaker race and will be charging late if the breaks go her way.
1 Capitol Queen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained mare that resumes. She hasn’t raced since August 19 when down the track behind Tintookie at Randwick in a solid Saturday metro race. She’s had three trials to get ready for her return and her best is the best in the race. Market will be the guide as to where she is at re fitness levels.
6 Twice As Special (Bet Now: $SP.00) isn’t a horse I could back to win but I can entertain her for wider exotics. She ran over this trip last Wednesday on the Kenso where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she did make up headway, she was never really threatening behind Whinchat. Spots them a start but should be strong late and can pinch a first four spot.
Race 8. (21:30) Tab (Bm72) 1100m
14 Mon Pierre (Bet Now: $SP.00) will do me in the get out. Matty Smith trained mare that was good late when runner up fresh over 900m at Newcastle before going to Warwick Farm on Australia Day where she got to near last in the run but made up solid ground in a good effort in defeat behind the in form Shezanalister. Hard fit now and if she can settle closer in the run, she’ll be hard to hold out.
8 Roussillon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Exceed And Excel that resumes for James Cummings. This guy is first up, having not raced since Dec 2 at Rosehill when badly held up in the straight when seemingly having plenty to offer so forgive and forget the run behind stablemate Legio Ten. Trial work to get ready has been strong and he does have a bit of quality about her.
10 Wingardium (Bet Now: $SP.00) is just under two weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Randwick when near the sped throughout and she tried her guts out but just lacked the finale to go with them late behind Tashi. Welcomed drop in depth and with her racing pattern, she’ll give herself every chance.
