A nine race program has been set down for Belmont this Saturday, highlighted by the Raconteur Stakes (1400m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:53) WELCOME BACK TO THE RACE-BM78+ 2200m
3 Freez’emoff (Bet Now:Β $2.30) looks the pony to bet on in the stayers contest. This mare is flying at the moment and seems to be getting better with age. Tempo was against her at this track/distance two weeks ago, but she rounded them up from the back to win impressively with something in hand. Has gate one, so potentially can sit closer in the run. Whatever the case, just has to hold her form to win.
1 Touch Of Silver (Bet Now:Β $6.50) will be hoping this is a truly run 2200m because his past few outings have been sit/sprints, a set up he can’t react to in a positive way, the latest run being in the race mentioned above where he whacked away alright. If this does become a true staying contest, I think he’s a key chance.
5 I’m A Love Man (Bet Now:Β $61.00) could be one to chuck in exotics at big odds. Rises big time in grade/depth after sitting on speed in a Class 3 at Pinjarra last time out and didn’t fire a shot when down the track behind Celtic Diva. The few runs prior in town weren’t too bad, but I think his best of winning will be leading and controlling.
Race 2. (14:33) TABTOUCH WESTSPEED MDN 1200m
Bit of guessing here with 3 Mr Delegator (Bet Now:Β $1.70) but has been well supported in early betting. Tiarnna Robertson trains this gelding, who is first up, having not raced since March 4 at Bunbury when on speed and fighting on strongly to only go down narrowly to Cliffs Of Comfort, a talented type. No trials, but stable has a very good strike rate.
9 Western Rhythm (Bet Now:Β $4.20) is a very interesting runner. Sessions filly on debut for the Brock Lewthwaite yard. Trialled here last Tuesday and looked to go about her business quite nicely when winning over 1000m. Noteworthy that Pike rode her in that trial and he sticks for the debut, so I think that’s a good lead for this girl and her chances.
6 Seminole Brave (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a War Chant gelding on debut for a Railway Stakes combo of Gino Poletti and jockey Shaun O’Donnell. This three year old has had two trials this prep to prepare for start one and has looked solid at each outing, finishing runner up each time. Overall, not a strong maiden, so watch the market.
Race 3. (15:13) GOURMET TAKEAWAY PLATE 1200m
2 Ellisio (Bet Now:Β $5.50) on top for me. David Harrison trained colt that was hard in the market when debuting over 1000m here last Wednesday when showing good gate speed to lead and he gave a pretty good kick but couldn’t quite go on with it when second to impressive winner Nuhad. Like him up in trip and good lead that Harvey sticks.
1 Miss Ivy League (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is the one with hard race fitness/experience under the belt. Michael Lane trained filly that ran here two weeks ago over 1300m when back in the small field and did make ground late without really being a winning threat behind Charleton Eddie. Tricky gate, but form around her reads well.
5 Reign Of Fire (Bet Now:Β $4.50) is a son of Trade Fair who is on debut for the Colin Webster team. This gelding has had just the one trial this prep to get ready for start one, which came last Tuesday here when winning over 1000m and looking to go about his business nicely. Two trials during the Summer was good and has a good gate to use.
Race 4. (15:53) PERTH RACING AT HOME HCP 1000m
1 Mia Dolce (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is a quality filly for Jayce Buckley that resumes. This filly has been an iron horse since her 2YO days. In saying that, she’s pretty much got the frame of a juvenile and hasn’t really developed whereas others have gone on with it. But she does have dazzling early speed to use and will give a bold sight.
4 Ziebell (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a Luke Fernie trained gelding that resumed last Wednesday over this track/distance when on speed and copping pressure, but found plenty in the straight, only to be swamped late by a swooper that did no work out the back. Not sure he can hold out Mia Dolce, so for his fans, hope he takes a sit off Mia Dolce and has last look.
3 Downforce (Bet Now:Β $14.00) is a son of Snippetson that resumes for the Neville Parnham team. This bloke hasn’t raced since December 28 when a close up fourth in a field of six at Ascot where he wasn’t bad in defeat but was on the quick back up in a strongly run race and couldn’t quite finish it off well enough. Two trials leading in have been good and for mine is value at double figures.
Race 5. (16:37) RACONTEUR STAKES 1400m
Toughest test to date for 2 Laverrod (Bet Now:Β $1.80) but he is the horse with race fitness and change up speed, which I think will be such an advantage against these. Gee he was an impressive winner three weeks ago over 1400m at Ascot, really producing a sharp turn of foot to beat up the older horses in a race where the form has been franked via Festival Miss. Hard to beat.
Great to see 1 Kay Cee (Bet Now:Β $3.20) back at the races. Star filly for Neville Parnham that hasn’t raced since scoring a fab win in the Kingston Town during the Summer Carnival, continuing a wonderful record of 3YO’s in that Group l. Has been kept on ice for the Winter and her two trials leading in have been sharp. Short of her best, may need the run, but has class.
5 Baby Blues (Bet Now:Β $13.00) can be a big improver here at odds for the David Harrison team. She ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when a fair way off the speed and didn’t really come on behind Resortman. Think the senior jock on is a big tick for her, as is the inside gate, and if she can take advantage of it, can definitely fill a first four spot.
Race 6. (17:10) AMELIA PARK (BM71+) 1200m
1 Massimo (Bet Now:Β $2.70) gets one more chance before a life ban is on the cards. Hard in the market, again, when racing over 1400m here two weeks ago and for mine, he had every chance when on speed. Just no match for a flying Luke’s Gold, who is in career best form at the moment. Massimo has the talent to blow these away. Just yet to produce his best this time in. One more look.
8 Black Ducati (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is a talented mare for Michael Lane that didn’t help her cause at all in the Luke’s Gold race from a fortnight back here. Was a touch too keen behind the speed and that energy burn left her without many petrol tickets left for the straight, eventually finishing a close up third. She’s got the talent to beat these. Just needs to harness the energy better.
7 Mr Genoa (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is a huge query here. Talented animal for Luke Fernie that is first up, having not raced since Feb 22 when down the track at Ascot after racing four wide no cover for the trip, plus was found to have lost a tooth in the run. Resumes without a public trial, but stable can get them ready for a first up win, so I’d watch the market.
Race 7. (17:40) CROWN PERTH (BM66+) 1000m
4 Son Of A God (Bet Now:Β $1.90) is a big query here. Talented animal for Simon Miller that hasn’t raced since April 11 over 1200m at Ascot when doing work on speed under Pike but his class came to the fore when the button was pushed and he was far too good. Break between runs with no public trial, so I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.
5 State Attorney (Bet Now:Β $8.00) a key threat for me. Adam Durrant trains this sprinter, who is three weeks between runs since racing over 1000m at Ascot when back off the speed and closing off with purpose late when a close up second to the in form Speeding Comet. Looks to be really good speed here, so can see him sitting back and launching late.
12 Kramden (Bet Now:Β $11.00) should be forgiven for last start. Ran over 1000m at Ascot three weeks ago when wide no cover for the trip and I think just forget he went around behind Miss Frost, who went within a lip of winning last Saturday, so the form reads well and he draws much better this time around. Definite improver at odds.
Race 8. (18:15) HEINEKEN 3 (BM66+) 1400m
10 Showmanship (Bet Now:Β $2.00) to continue his winning ways. Very promising gelding for the Williams camp that resumed over 1200m here a fortnight ago when sitting back off the speed before Pike eased him wider on the turn and despite taking a little while to get into his work, he really finished off with purpose late to win and clocked the best last 400m of the meeting. With upside to come, he looks the pony to bet on.
7 Resortman (Bet Now:Β $2.05) looks above average for Michael Lane. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago against his own age when a short priced elect and despite a couple of nervous moments in the straight, class came to the fore and he was much too good. Good test here against Showmanship, but has hard race fitness on his side.
4 Dark Prospect (Bet Now:Β $46.00) is one for wider multiples to include I think. Remaining at 1400m is the query with him given he’s a stayer and I dare say he has eyes towards a race like the Kalgoorliue Cup. Still, didn’t think the resumption at this trip wasn’t too bad behind Gates Of Babylon and he does have a bit of quality on his day. Doubt he beats the first two, but can fill a first four spot.
Race 9. (18:47) SCHWEPPES (RS1MW) 1300m
Fascinating runner is 10 Western Pride (Bet Now:Β $2.30), an Adam Durrant trained mare that resumes. She raced three times during the latter part of the Autumn this time last year, winning all three and showing really good promise. Has had 12 months off and comes into this with two trials under the belt. Definite market and yard watch but she has quality.
16 Trutiara (Bet Now:Β $14.00) is a Lindsey Smith trained mare who is starting to put it together. Her last two starts/wins have come over 1200m at Pinjarra, two back being the maiden tag being broken then backed it up with a big win from off the speed under Harvey. Has versatility re racing pattern, and stable is starting to really fire at the moment.
1 Skinnen Tins (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is a daughter of Patronize for the Ashley Maley team that can run a much improved race at odds. Contested the Provincial Final two weeks ago when wide no cover for the trip on what was a good speed and tired late in a total forgive. Has a much better barrier this time around and the win prior was sharp, albeit at Geraldton.
