Back Me

Open 2YO race to start the meeting. 3 Perspiration (Bet Now: $3.30) looks to bring the best form. He debuted on the Kenso at Randwick and was very good in defeat behind a Stakes class juvenile in Roselyn’s Star. That was at 1000m and the way he kept finding, 1200m is no issue and there is no horse of that quality here.

Danger

8 Immortal Star (Bet Now: $3.10) hasn’t done much wrong in two runs this time in. She resumed with a bang when a dominant on speed winner at Ballarat before going to the Redoute’s Choice here when ridden with a sit and found the line well enough in defeat behind Bold Bastille. She brings the right form and commands respect.

Long Shot

5 Appointed (Bet Now: $6.50) should appreciate a rise to 1200m. This guy debuted over 1100m at Ballarat and was very good from the back in a strong debut when third to Skipjack. Has that run under the belt and up to 1200m, he’ll take holding out I am sure. Definite winning chance.

Race 2. (12:40) Robert Taranto (Bm70) 2000m

Back Me

Landed with 8 Future Monarch (Bet Now: $16.00) but not really a race I want to get involved in. Danny O’Brien trained mare that comes to town off the back of a strong win at Bendigo where she was given a 12/10 by Lane and no doubt for mine that the ride won the race. She was only second up and up to 2000m should be fine. Thin race, she’s on top.

Danger

7 Verifier (Bet Now: $4.60) comes here a few weeks between runs for Nigel Blackiston since racing at The Valley where he was wide no cover throughout and tired late to finish down the track behind Lauding. He has only won the one race but he does have talent and his best is good enough to be dangerous.

Long Shot

2 Berkshire Breeze (Bet Now: $9.00) is an interesting runner. Ciaron Maher trained import that resumes, having not raced since making his Australian debut on Cup Day at Flemington in the Subzero when down the track behind The Maggstar. His trial work has been solid enough and off his overseas form, I think he’ll take beating.

Race 3. (13:15) Noel Rundle (Bm70) 1200m

Back Me

10 White Bear (Bet Now: $4.80) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Michael Moroney. He resumed with a bang when beating up an average bunch at Benalla before racing here three weeks ago when near the speed and was there to win but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Wolfy. Good racing style, hard fit, he appeals.

Danger

4 Thaler (Bet Now: $17.00) comes here with fresh legs for Griffiths/De Kock, having not raced since March 1 when a spank job winner at The Valley, settling just off the speed before finding clear air and away he went, making an absolute mess of them. Good test here, but confident he measures up.

Long Shot

11 Longtimedreaming (Bet Now: $17.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Paul Preusker trained mare that ran a few weeks back down the straight at Flemington. She got a fair way out of her ground and worked home with purpose without threatening behind Big Watch. Like her back to a bending track and with a drag into the race, she’s dangerous.

Race 4. (13:50) Evergreen Turf Bert Bryant Hcp 1200m

Back Me

Good race this. 4 Bossy Nic (Bet Now: $9.50) is a talented filly for Team McEvoy that resumes. She hasn’t raced since Oaks Day when far from disgraced in the Red Roses behind Mumbai Muse. Has been given a decent break and her recent jumpout win at Donald when showing nice change up speed, she looked impressive. Keen to see how she goes.

Danger

5 Moesha (Bet Now: $4.80) should take beating for Moody/Coleman. She ran a fortnight back in the Don Casboult Classic at The Valley where she got back off the speed and found the line with real purpose when second to Gumdrops. She was a few weeks between runs so with room for improvement, she’ll take holding out.

Long Shot

12 Rubikton (Bet Now: $41.00) is dangerous. Clinton McDonald trained filly that was wide throughout in a chute race at Pakenham over 1000m and what impressed me was the way she knuckled down to win and she got better as the race went on. Off that, 1200m is fine, maps perfect and she will be strong at the end.

Race 5. (14:25) Stow Storage Bill Collins (Bm70) 1400m

Back Me

9 Jabbawockeez (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Team Hayes trained gelding that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Jan 17 at Sandown when near the fence and kept finding the line in a good effort behind a Saturday class horse Magnaspin. He does sprint well fresh and this isn’t an overly deep race so for mine, he rates highly.

Danger

7 Furious (Bet Now: $4.20) looks to be in for a good prep and is suited up in trip for Team Hawkes. He resumed a few weeks back over 1200m at Caulfield when back off the speed and kept chasing with purpose, looking the winner but couldn’t quite get the win when a narrow second to Wolfy. Fitter and up in trip, he is one of the key chances.

Long Shot

8 Hazel Baby (Bet Now: $6.00) is capable of bouncing back. Ciaron Maher trained mare that put together a couple of wins before going to Sandown where she was held up at times but was good late behind Marble Arch. She was a few weeks between runs so with room for improvement, a kind map, she can bounce back.

Race 6. (15:00) Marshall White Geoff Murphy (Bm78) 1600m

13 Rocky Path (Bet Now: $41.00) is worth a throw at the stumps. This mare has done a really good job since joining Lindsey Smith, the latest run being over 1800m at Caulfield Heath where she ran an honest race but was no match for Sea What I See, who looks Stakes class and won well last Saturday, so the form reads super and back to the mile, Rocky Path appeals as an each way speck.

Danger

11 Splash Back (Bet Now: $6.50) is an Andrew Bobbin trained mare that has an engine under the hood. She resumed a couple of weeks ago over 1400m where she gave them a start and a beating, getting held up at times before eventually getting clear and she dashed late to win and win well. She’s heading in the right direction and can take this out.

Long Shot

5 Thought Provoking (Bet Now: $41.00) is a Price/Kent trained mare that resumes and looks to be set to defend her title at Morphettville in the Centaurea. She resumes, having not raced since Nov 4 when down the track in the John Letts behind Pudding. Has jumped out well leading in and fresh at 1600m signals some form of intent so watch the market.

Race 7. (15:35) Galilee Series Final 2400m

Back Me

1 Apulia (Bet Now: $3.40) is capable. He comes through the Alister Clark at The Valley where I thought McDougall gave him absolutely none. Made a four/five sustained run from a fair way out and the horse looked a tired horse on the turn, eventually tiring to finish down the track. I do think his first up run in the Australian Guineas was good and he should have won the Victoria Derby. Dismiss him at your peril.

Danger

13 Sirveke (Bet Now: $23.00) is bred to be a stayer and has the Patrick Payne polish so he commands respect. He debuted over 1856m at Kyneton where he had the dream run in transit before angling clear and he knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. He’ll have no issue with 2400m and with good upside, leading camp, he rates highly.

Long Shot

3 Sunsets (Bet Now: $3.60) looks suited to this level. He comes through the Alister Clark where he was seemingly given every chance from just off the speed and tried hard but just didn’t have the class to go with them late behind Antrim Coast. Like him up to 2400m and the depth here is nowhere near as deep.

9 Globe (Bet Now: $4.80) has the potential to be a Group l horse. We have seen a lot of Price/Kent hype runners go to bust…but good lord, the recent jumpout from this guy at Cranbourne. It was something else. Ran sub 59 for 1000m and did it without Zahra sneezing on him. He looks to be absolutely humming and gee he’s found a lovely kick off race. $3 all in I found very interesting. He either goes $3 to $5, may need the run, or $3 to odds on, trots up and can head to Brisbane for the Hollindale/Doomben Cup. I say he wins and wins well.

Danger

2 Buffalo River (Bet Now: $3.20) will lead and take running down. He comes through the All Star Mile where he chased Pride Of Jenni, dragging the field up to her, which is a near impossible task and he tired but was game as ever when fourth. His best chance of winning is making this a proper 1400m test.

Long Shot

3 The Inferno (Bet Now: $14.00) hasn’t won a race since arriving down under from Singapore but he is a talented animal. He resumed in the William Reid where he got back to near last in the run and did make up ground without threatening behind Imperatriz. Maps to do no work…doubt he wins, but can run top four.

3 First Immortal (Bet Now: $3.10) is a very progressive animal for Team Kav. Three weeks between runs since resuming with a bang, winning the Anniversary Vase at the mile here where he was short of his best but class came to the fore and he was too good. He is potentially on the road to Brisbane if he wins this, and I do think he has the potential to be a Group l winner.

Danger

9 Carini (Bet Now: $7.00) seems a very one paced type so for mine, a truly run 2000m suits. He ran a few weeks ago over 2000m at Caulfield where he lacked a turn of foot when they sprinted but he picked up and was pretty good late in the piece when third to Gear Up. Hopefully it’ll be more of a staying test and he will be strong late. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

7 Captain Envious (Bet Now: $27.00) is a stayer I have plenty of time for and I am not dismissing him. Did more than enough fresh in the Blamey before going to this track/distance in a barrier trial and he was never a factor behind Gear Up. Might need the run and further, but he has the engine under the hood to measure up.

Race 10. (17:35) Jack Elliott (Bm84) 1600m

Back Me

8 Marquess (Bet Now: $8.00) has to be given another look. I was keen on him at The Valley two weeks ago where he got into a decent spot but Gaudray decided to make a move down the side and it didn’t work, tiring late behind Magnaspin, but post race was found to be lame to he had a clear excuse. His best is better than these IMO. Hopefully all is well with him.

Danger

13 Frigid (Bet Now: $3.20) is likeable. John Leek Jr trained mare that resumed at The Valley where she got badly held up behind the speed before eventually getting clear and was good late in the piece behind Sir Davy. Fitter and up in trip, bigger track, she has a touch of quality, she’ll be around the mark.

Long Shot

14 Karburan (Bet Now: $18.00) is a French import that is heading in the right direction. Busuttin/Young trained galloper that made his Australian debut behind Another Wil at Flemington and while he was never a winning threat, I thought he ran a very credible race for a horse wanting more ground. Likely spots them a start but should be strong at the end.
