30/12/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

1 Fake (Bet Now: $3.20) is a nice looking colt for Godolphin and James Cummings who will appreciate coming back to the 1000m. I think the 1100m saw him out last start at Caulfield but he stuck on well when third to Ollivander. He has the hard race experience under the belt, big track suits and he’ll be strong late.

5 Graceful Storm (Bet Now: $9.50) was a drifter in the market when debuting in a Bendigo 2YO maiden, a race which looked to have a bit of depth to it. She won impressively and I liked the way she put them away nearer the inside, her turn of foot coming to the fore late. Has the race experience and is a winner.

9 Threeood (Bet Now: $7.00) is a daughter of Star Witness on debut for Mick Price. This girl has had the benefit of two jump outs, the most recent at Sandown on December 12 where she showed good speed to hold the rail and lead and went about her business quite nicely I thought. Looks talented and will be interesting to see what she does here.

6 Star Major (Bet Now: $9.00) is a horse I’m keen to butter up on. His two runs this time in have been great. Wide/back in a slowly run race first up at Geelong yet still attacked the line behind Good Therapy before going to Pakenham Cup Day where he didn’t look entirely happy on the surface but was sound behind Parallel World. Third up at 1800m on firm going, no excuses. Gets his chance.

1 Red Choux’s (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Darren Weir trained galloper who has been really good in his first prep. He ran a fortnight back at Caulfield over 1700m and worked home well late in the piece but was just no match for Angelucci. Back to a track/distance he has run well at, gets the claim and draws out, which suits his racing pattern.

5 Onemore Emotion (Bet Now: $19.00) is a lightly raced son of Onemorenomore for Chris Waller who won the maiden via a protest two back at Ballarat before racing over 1500m at Mornington where he didn’t look entirely happy on the circuit but made ground late when balanced up behind Elegant Queen. The big track and 1800m suits.

6 Life On The Wire (Bet Now: $2.45) is a Tassie mare for Scott Brunton who is just in a real purple patch at the moment and deserves a crack at this level. She hasn’t raced since November 29 when bolting up at this track/distance under Boris Thornton, running really good splits late. Keen to see how she goes against this lot.

5 Moonlover (Bet Now: $3.40) is a mare racing in really good form at the moment for the Matt Laurie yard. She is four weeks between runs since racing over 1300m here where she tried hard on the bog but was clearly no match for Widgee Turf, who of course franked the form by bolting up last Saturday. Back to her own sex, she should take some beating.

I think 1 Zasorceress (Bet Now: $9.00) is the very interesting runner. Talented staying mare that resumes for the Darren Weir and I say interesting because the stable had a few nominated for this race but they elect to go with this girl. She can run well fresh despite not placing in three previous fresh attempts and overall, this is a pretty thin race.

4 Mawzoona (Bet Now: $4.20) looks a very progressive filly for Team Snowden. Won the maiden two back at Mornington before racing at Kilmore last week where she had to make her move nearer the inside, which wasn’t the best ground, but she was still far too good. Back to her own age/sex now, she should take some beating.

7 Light Romance (Bet Now: $7.50) is an Ellerton/Zahra trained filly who comes through a 1200m race at the Valley under lights where she was parked near the pace and tried hard in the straight when third to all the way winner Bella Martini. She was 1450m back to 1200m that night, so back up to 1300m on the big track looks ideal.

3 Bellegano (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Robert Smerdon filly who resumed in the Bella Martini race at the Valley. She was a notable drifter in betting close to jump time and while the market got it right, I thought she ran really well in defeat behind the Team Hawkes filly. She’ll up this scenario and is one of the hardest to beat.

12 Dam Ready (Bet Now: $8.00) has a horror strike rate but he finds a good race. He resumed on Werribee Cup Day where he sat off the pace and Callow angled him clear, ready to strike but he couldn’t quite see it out and had to settle for second to Toorak Cowboy. Draws to get good cover here and launch late.

5 El Sicario (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented four year old for the Busuttin/Young team who did an enormous job in defeat first up in a 955m race at the Valley, sitting wide throughout on a hot pace, hitting the front in the straight and just ran out of puff when third to Kakanui. He’s hard to trust, but the resumption was quite encouraging.

6 Sang Choi Bao (Bet Now: $9.50) a definite chance. Darren Weir trains this galloper and the key to him is finding firm ground because anything different and he’ll struggle. He got the firm track last time out over 1000m at Bendigo and produced a brilliant finale to overhaul the heavily backed Call Me Handsome. That form does read quite well for this and with these Weir runners, once they find winning form, they generally hold it.

7 Ozi Choice (Bet Now: $3.80) in a tricky open handicap. This bloke is low flying at the moment for the Darren Weir camp, who has won his past two outings, the latest coming a fortnight back at Caulfield when sitting on speed and showing good fight under Ben Thompson. Maps super here I think and is right down in the weights.

3 Lite’n In My Veins (Bet Now: $5.50) is the big query. Quality galloper from WA who has had a couple of runs for Aaron Purcell, the latest coming on Stakes Day when finishing down the track behind Moher after being an alarming drifter in betting. If the horse that ran a beauty first up behind Rich Charm turns up, he’s the one to beat.

Gee I think we are getting a really good price about 1 Burning Front (Bet Now: $6.50). He’s probably not quite as trustworthy as normal, but I still think he is racing well. He comes through the Gold Bullion at Pakenham where he was an alarming drifter in betting, largely due to the soft track, and he couldn’t quite see it out when fourth to Amadeus. I think the claim is a big tick, he draws well and for mine is the overs in the race.

14 Light ‘N’ Fire (Bet Now: $4.60) for me. Son of Blevic for Darren Weir who is in really good form at the moment. Came with a well timed run to win two back at Bendigo before racing on the Parks track where he was a bit of a hard luck tale when third to Lord Topper in a real blanket finish. Cut in the ground is the perfect and gets the 3kg claim for the low flying Tahlia Hope.

6 Ancient History (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Godolphin gelding for James Cummings who has been a bit costly this time in but he does find a very winnable race with his best form. He ran over 1500m at Bendigo last time out and took forever to get going but his last 100m was quite good behind Burrum’s Buzz. Sandown mile looks ideal and he is getting close to D-Day.

7 Lamborghini (Bet Now: $8.50) is a former kiwi stayer that had his first run for the Patrick Payne yard over the Moonee Valley mile where he was completely unwanted in betting but I thought he ran really well in defeat behind Tenappy Ladies, closing off with real purpose. Has run well second up before and the big track suits him more.

16 La Renarde (Bet Now: $9.00) on top. Robert Hickmott trains this galloper who resumed in a 955m race at the Valley and I thought her run in defeat was pretty good considering she bungled the start and was out the back against her normal pattern. Should be near the pace provided she jumps clean and she goes well second up.

4 Doc’s Hero (Bet Now: $12.00) is a quality mare that resumes for Colin Scott. This mare was very consistent right throughout the Winter/Spring, winning two of three and the only defeat was a narrow second to Gwenneth at the Valley. Recent jump out was very good, she flies fresh and she’ll be launching at these late.

12 Stream Ahead (Bet Now: $21.00) is a daughter of Dane Shadow who was confidently supported when resuming at Bairnsdale and though there was help via the bias, she led all the way under Steph Thornton, bolted up and ran really good time for the meeting. Horror second up record is the negative, but she has the right racing pattern and gets really good weight relief.

17 Sohool (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Darren Weir trained son of Street Cry who ran over 1300m here last Wednesday and I thought he was excellent in defeat. Had to make his run nearer the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be at all, yet still finished off when third to Sandhurst Delight. Another that can be hot and cold, but with the right run, he can figure somewhere in the finish.

10 Downhearted (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Mick Price trained son of Starcraft who is second up here after resuming in the Italian Plate at Tatura where he attempted to lead all the way and he gave a solid kick but just ran out of puff late when a narrow fourth to Vianden in a blanket finish. Goes well second up and likes Sandown.

9 Coram…(Bet Now: $11.00) he’s a bludger, but so are most engaged here, so he comes into consideration. Thought he was set a task last time out at Werribee but he closed off okay very late in the piece behind Toorak Cowboy. Not the greatest of records at Sandown, but that little bit of give in the track suits and he’ll be working home late.
