A bumper ten event program has been set down for Caulfield this Saturday for Memsie Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:05) Aushorse Hcp (Bm78) 1400m
5 Butternut Princess (Bet Now:Β $4.80) should prove hard to beat for Moody/Coleman after her track/distance effort two weeks ago, closing with real purpose when third to Recuperato. She was 1100m to 1400m there so with that 1400m run under the belt, she appeals.
8 Miss Maranda (Bet Now:Β $15.00) comes back up to 1400m and back to town off the back of a win over 1200m at Pakenham Synthetic, giving her rivals a start and a beating in an impressive performance. Back up in trip, good upside, off a win, she is hard to beat.
10 Naina (Bet Now:Β $23.00) should be better for the first up run after resuming over 1400m at Sandown when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Jenni Multabella. Fitter and, good upside to come, she’s dangerous.
Race 2. (12:35) Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics Hcp (Bm78) 1800m
5 Hurry Curry (Bet Now:Β $26.00) should appreciate getting to the mile after resuming over the mile three weeks ago at Flemington where she got back to near last in the run and was good late without threatening behind Touchdown. Fitter, up in trip, can settle closer, takes beating at a likely decent price.
4 Lincoln Rocks (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is knocking on the door. He ran over 2000m here two weeks ago, trying hard from just off speed but couldn’t quite get there when second to Taka Speed. Like him back in trip and maps to do no work.
6 Station One (Bet Now:Β $201.00) was too bad to be true behind Perfect Ten three weeks ago at Caulfield Heath, finishing tailed off last. To be fair, the SP suggested he wasn’t really there to play but even still, he was ordinary. Hit and miss but his best is good enough to pinch first four.
Race 3. (13:10) Brad Masters Plumbing Hcp 2000m
8 Litzdeel (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is three weeks between runs since resuming over 1800m at Caulfield Heath. She did early work on speed, got keen, and was entitled to drop right away but she kept chipping away in defeat behind First Chorus. Fitter, up in trip, she appeals.
1 Berekeley Square (Bet Now:Β $41.00) was sneaky good behind Darkbonee when resuming over the mile here two weeks ago, finishing off his race quite strongly late in the piece. Might need another and more ground but off the return, I say he’s in the mix.
5 Taramansour (Bet Now:Β $201.00) should be better for the first up run behind Darkbonee two weeks back here. He was off speed and just found them too sharp, failing to come on. Better set up here, he might need another run, but could pinch first four.
Race 4. (13:45) Hygain Hcp (Bm84) 1400m
18 Victorious Spirit (Bet Now:Β $5.00) for me. Moody/Coleman trained four year old that resumes, having not raced since the Australian Derby when down the track and looking a tired horse. Think he has jumped out really well, will park off a good speed and be strong late.
3 Elouyou (Bet Now:Β $17.00) is two weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when keen in the run and just tired late behind Ten Commandments. Has that run under the belt, first run in a month, he appeals.
2 Home Rule (Bet Now:Β $9.50) did a really good behind Ten Commandments a fortnight back here, attempting to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers late for the eventual winner. Good racing style, he’ll take running down.
Race 5. (14:20) Courtza Stakes (G3) 1200m
6 Shadhavar (Bet Now:Β $1.90) jumped out like a rocket prior to resuming in the Regal Roller where she led throughout and found plenty under pressure to fend them off and score. Back to her own sex, good racing style, she takes running down.
11 Custom (Bet Now:Β $7.50) was somewhat of a forgive from a few weeks ago at Caulfield Heath. Did she have her chance? I say yes, but she was back in the run and Johnstone was very keen to get into clear air, which did cost her momentum and energy. Win prior was dominant, she deserves another chance.
7 Flyer (Bet Now:Β $23.00) is three weeks between runs since a win at Caulfield Heath, giving her rivals a start and a beating in an impressive performance. She’s probably not up to Stakes grade but now is the right time of year to try and pinch being hard fit and in form.
Race 6. (14:55) The Heath 1100 (G3) 1100m
1 War Machine (Bet Now:Β $6.00) has class and that is going to carry him a long way. His last run was the Newmarket in the Autumn when down the track behind Caballus. His jumpout work has been sharp and if he’s all good post the Aurie’s Star mishap, he is clearly hard to beat.
Lot of hype around for 3 Oliveanotherday (Bet Now:Β $2.40). He does look a talent…but to be fair, I don’t think he’s done much relative to others engaged. That said, he has jumped out super and looks prepped up to run really well. He can win, clearly, but from a betting angle, I prefer War Machine.
5 Harry’s Yacht (Bet Now:Β $17.00) is a Corstens/Larkin trained gelding that resumes. He is better suited over further but has jumped out well, the latest seeing him ridden right out, so the grounding is there. Likely spots them a start but motors late.
Race 7. (15:30) Mcneil Stakes (G3) 1200m
2 Unit Five (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is the Magic Millions winner that resumes. His last run came in the Blue Diamond where nothing went right. Spelled, given a good break, jumped out well for the return and does have class. Watch betting.
1 Seize The Day (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a class Kiwi that makes his Aussie debut for Mark Walker. He showed really good promise in NZ, enough to come down under, and his jumpout work has been quite strong. Watch betting.
If there was one from the Vain, I’d say it would be 5 Confederation (Bet Now:Β $11.00). He didn’t get a lot of room behind Hard Kick in the straight and Ben Melham couldn’t really get stuck into him. Had trialled super prior and I think with room to move, he’s dangerous.
Race 8. (16:10) Memsie Stakes (G1) 1400m
I’ve been very keen on 2 Jimmysstar (Bet Now:Β $3.80) for this race for several weeks, and that was with Sheza Alibi included. I think Ciaron Maher has him absolutely humming with two electric trials following a Brisbane campaign, which has been a golden form reference in recent years. If he can get clear air to wind up…good luck beating him.
I have to give 1 Mr Brightside (Bet Now:Β $21.00) respect because he just has too many runs on the board to dismiss how plain he has looked in jumpout work, as well as his exhibition gallop last Saturday where Cafe Millennium made him look a maiden horse. He’s too good of a horse to dismiss and his Caulfield 1400m record is unbelievable.
10 Beiwacht (Bet Now:Β $6.50) will run a bold race from on speed. I think they’ve found the key to him in that he is a 1400m horse that rolls on speed. He ended last prep on a high, taking out the All Aged from the front. He’ll land on the bunny here and run a beauty.
Race 9. (16:45) Heatherlie Stakes (L) 1700m
8 Soulcombe (Bet Now:Β $41.00) is one of a few that I think is a Cups horse this Spring and I think he’ll run very well fresh. Hasn’t raced since the 2023 Melbourne Cup where he should have won but was given zero by Moreira. Long time off via serious injury but has come back with extended trial work and has been very good. I think he’ll run a beauty.
10 Yellow Jersey (Bet Now:Β $2.15) is a rocket for Team McEvoy and he won’t look out of place in whatever race he contests later in the Spring. Just one Australian run, which came during the Brisbane Winter. He was a mess pre race and that took away his winning chances, just missing. Trialled up super for the return, keen.
4 Knight’s Choice (Bet Now:Β $151.00) comes here with residual fitness after a Brisbane prep, which may have flattered how well he trialled last week here, but even allowing for that, good lord he went like a rocket and has to be respected.
Race 10. (17:20) Evergreen Turf Hcp (Bm100) 1400m
12 Ten Commandments (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is flying for Ciaron Maher. Was off a mini freshen up when a track/distance two weeks ago, coming with a well timed run from off speed to score. Good test here but confident he can measure up.
11 Sass Appeal (Bet Now:Β $2.20) is four weeks between runs since winning first up at Flemington. It was a race, but really, it was a barrier trial given how slow they allowed her to go in front. Won’t get it as easy this time around but she’s a beauty with a good racing style and clearly commands respect.
5 Craig (Bet Now:Β $23.00) ran last behind Sass Appeal several weeks ago but the run was full of merit given he was first up off an extended break and in a race pretty much run at barrier trial speed, he was never going to win. Fitter, he’ll run a beauty.
