Nine races have been set down for the Sunny Coast on Saturday where it is Sunshine Coast Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:08) Coastline Bmw I4 (bm72) 1400m
Very difficult race to kick off the program. I’m leaning towards 1 Moonan Me (Bet Now: $10.00). He’s on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Doomben where he got back a fair way in the run and while he wasn’t a winning threat, his finale was more than sound behind Roman Aureus. He can settle on speed from the good draw and gets in nicely after the claim.
10 The Lioness (Bet Now: $3.60) is untried at 1400m but looks to get a kind map. She got a suck run behind the speed when racing over 1200m here last time and under a heavy ride from Brad Stewart, she surged hard late to nail Wolf Moon. Gate one should ensure she sees out the 1400m okay and is a key threat.
9 Thatfridayfeeling (Bet Now: $41.00) is a Mick Lakey trained gelding that resumes. He is a horse who is better suited over further, but can sprint well fresh and though he ran last in a Deagon trial, I thought he moved quite well. Not sure he wins, but I think he’s one to include in exotics.
Race 2. (13:43) Coastline Bmw Ix3 (bm72) 1400m
11 Renouf (Bet Now: $5.00) saves her best for the home track here so I’m in her corner. On the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Doomben where she was good late from near last in the run, making ground nearer the inside for third. Bigger track, genuine tempo, she’ll get her chance to finish over the top.
3 Garoppolo (Bet Now: $2.50) is a very interesting runner. Maryann Brosnan trains at the Gold Coast and he certainly has the talent to blow them away. Attacked the line with real purpose fresh behind Garibaldi. Then went to Doomben when held up and nearer the inside, and that just wasn’t the spot to be behind Mass Destruction, so want to be forgiving. His best can beat these.
1 Overseas (Bet Now: $26.00) is a very interesting runner. North Queenslander that is having his first run for Billy Healey. He was simply too good for them up there and with his rating going up, he had to come to town. Trial was just fair but he has been a horse who has trialled like that and produced the goods on race day.
Race 3. (14:18) Coastline Bmw M3 Hcp 1600m
5 Gambu (Bet Now: $4.20) for me. Chris Waller trained son of Redwood that debuted over 1350m at Ipswich on a somewhat testing track. He was under pressure early but got better as the race went on and surged hard late to win. Off that, he’ll eat up the mile here, and is bred to appreciate it as well.
1 Why We Drink (Bet Now: $3.70) is certainly not lacking in fitness and comes here in winning form after a strong win on testing ground at Ipswich, justifying the short quote. He’s a proven weight carrier and with these type of races, midweek class isn’t too far off Saturday metro, so he’s hard to beat.
8 Speed Map (Bet Now: $7.00) is a progressive colt for Allan Chau that comes to town off the back of a maiden win at Ballina where he had the suck run behind the speed and wore down a well tried Dis Go Boom, with over seven lengths back to third. Bit of depth to this line up, but he looks capable.
Race 4. (14:53) Coastline Bmw 2 Series Coup? 1000m
3 Rubiquitous (Bet Now: $2.60) is a short course specialist so I think he’s suited here. Defied a notable betting drift to win fresh at Doomben. Led throughout and was there to be beaten, but Brad Stewart got the best out of him and he was too good late, beating Self Sufficient, who won last Saturday, so the form reads well.
4 Muschialli (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Tony Gollan trained galloper that is several weeks between runs since a win at Doomben on Boxing Day where he was given a peach back off the speed by Ben Thompson, sliced his way through and drove hard late to win. Tick over trial was good to the eye and has a liking for the track.
10 Not Another (Bet Now: $23.00) hasn’t done much wrong in her five start career for Stuart Kendrick. Specked at odds at the Gold Coast last time out where she had the suck run behind the speed and battled on okay albeit a fair distance away from Starman. That form does read well for this.
Race 5. (15:32) Bmw 4 Series Gran Coupe' Hcp 1000m
2 Weona Smartone (Bet Now: $2.00) is a high quality gelding for David Vandyke that resumes. Hasn’t raced since December 4 where he was Winx-like odds and despite a few nervous moments, his class came to the fore and he got the job done with the 60.5kg impost. Loved his recent tick over trial win and on his home track, he’ll take beating.
1 Racecourse Road (Bet Now: $7.00) is a beauty for Kelly Schweida. Market wanted him fresh at the Gold Coast and he tried quite hard from near the speed. Just no match late for Remlaps Gem but the effort was still quite good. He goes good second up and I think is better on firmer footing.
5 Niedorp (Bet Now: $16.00) deserves another chance. This mare ran over 900m at the Gold Coast three weeks ago where she just didn’t handle the wet track I thought when down the track behind noted speed demon, Remlaps Gem. Track should be much firmer this time around and up in trip, she can bounce back.
Race 6. (16:12) Coastline Bmw X3 Plate (c3) 1000m
15 Sweet Margot May (Bet Now: $3.80) is a lightly raced filly for Nat McCall who should be respected on the home track off the back of a spank job fresh win at Ballina where she looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted under a confident steer from Mallyon. Hard to beat here.
8 One Shy Ruby (Bet Now: $3.60) is flying this time in for Chris Anderson. 2/2 to start the prep, winning at this track/distance before bolting up at Doomben over this trip. Seems to have a real liking for this track and with early speed, I think she can take care of the wide gate. Hard to beat.
3 Xerri (Bet Now: $4.80) is a horse I find hard to trust but his best is capable. I was keen on him several weeks back but he did nothing after seemingly getting every chance, but watching the replay, not much went his way at the start. Hard to back with confidence, but if he didn’t burn your pocket last time, you can back him. He can win, but I won’t be having my coin on him.
Race 7. (16:52) Coastline Bmw X4 Hcp (c6) 1600m
4 Slow Hands (Bet Now: $3.90) is knocking on the door. Plenty of merit in his Gold Coast effort last start given he was nearer the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be, but drove hard late to just miss out on the win. Doesn’t win out of turn but I feel a win for him is just around the corner. Think it comes here.
5 Fort Wayne (Bet Now: $5.50) is a beauty for Stuart Kendrick and I think commands respect here on his home track off the back of a last start win. That win came at Doomben where he was on speed, doing work, and there to be run down, but found plenty under pressure, fended them off and was strong in winning. I think he only runs well here.
1 Profit (Bet Now: $7.50) would spank these if he produced anything near his best. The question is, where is he at. He was okay late fresh behind Stampe in the Lough Neagh before a down the track effort in the Magic Millions Cup. Great record at the track and with the claim, the set up is there to bounce back.
Race 8. (17:32) Sunshine Coast Cup 1400m
Even though 2 The Harrovian (Bet Now: $4.60) has won up to 2100m, I think now with the Edmonds camp, he tends to save his best for 1400m and struggles beyond that. He was given every chance last start in the Bernborough over the mile but couldn’t finish it off when third to Kubrick. Like him back to 1400m and has class.
5 Scallopini (Bet Now: $11.00) is a key threat for me. Son of Snitzel that was unwanted in betting when resuming in the Magic Millions Snippets. He loomed to be some sort of threat but first up on a lightning track, condition just gave way behind a star in Isotope. Love him up to 1400m on the bigger track and has more upside than most.
8 Animate (Bet Now: $9.50) has done a really good job in two runs this time in for Kris Lees. Resumed with an impressive win at Randwick before going to the Magic Millions Cup where he was outclassed on paper but he ran a super race in defeat I thought behind Eleven Eleven. That reads well for this.
Race 9. (18:12) Coastline Bmw M4 Hcp (c6) 1200m
3 Mass Destruction (Bet Now: $1.90) can bounce back here I feel. Peach from J Mac saw him win fresh at Doomben. He then went to the Gold Coast and just not sure he was entirely happy on the shifty track but was okay late behind Sea Raider. Back to 1200m on firmer footing, he’ll take holding out.
2 Boomtown Lass (Bet Now: $11.00) looks the map horse from the gate. Didn’t disgrace herself in the Magic Millions QTIS behind Wisdom Of Water, working home okay late without threatening behind Wisdom Of Water. Will welcome the drop back to this level and gate one, the claim, she’s likeable.
The best version of 4 Beau Ideal (Bet Now: $21.00) is capable. David Vandyke trains this gelding, who resumed at Doomben. Market said he was there for a day out and that’s how he raced behind stablemate Toorooloo. If he brings anything near his Sydney form, he wins, so watch the market.
