Race 1. (12:25) Gow-Gates Kirkham Plate 1000m
I like the way 7 Pearl Of Dubai (Bet Now: $SP.00) has looked in trial work. Peter Snowden trained filly that let down nicely to win her recent trial at Warwick Farm, running decent time and seemingly had something in hand. Bred to be good, looks good, hard to beat.
2 Defensemen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a well bred Coolmore colt for Chris Waller that debuts. He trialled last week at Rosehill and looked to move very well I thought, winning and running solid time. Keen to see how he goes.
5 Lord Elrond (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Shalaa colt for O’Shea/Charlton that is on debut off the back of a couple of trials. Latest trial was last week at Warwick Farm over 805m when running second and seemingly moved well. Stable is having a decent little run, watch betting.
Race 2. (13:00) Tab Highway Handicap (C3) 1600m
7 Write Your Own (Bet Now: $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Matty Dale. Just reckon he got a bit too far back two weeks back behind stablemate Adolphus but really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat behind the stablemate. If he can get a more positive ride, I think he’ll take beating.
1 Christa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win a Highway and she does appear to get a great chance here. Can make a case she should have won two weeks ago at Rosehill in the Highway but didn’t have the clearest of paths in the straight before eventually getting clear and working home strongly. Gets a great chance here.
3 Poisen Point (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well for Brett Robb and commands respect off the back of a big win in the Highway two back before going to the Highway a fortnight back and ran well but was no match for Adolphus. Racing in good form and should be around the mark.
Race 3. (13:35) Midway Handicap (Bm72) 1200m
2 Broadway Bouncer (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Kristen Buchanan and is a great each way gamble. She bombed the start and was a total forgive fresh at Canterbury before going to the Port Macquarie Sprint where she was one of the runs of the meeting against the pattern. If within range, I think she has the finale to finish over the top.
3 Mafia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He placed at Muswellbrook last time out when near the speed and loomed to win but couldn’t quite get there behind Earl Of Bantry. Strikes a winnable race, he commands respect.
4 So Good So Cool (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran on the Kenso at the midweeks last start when off speed and while on paper, he did little, he had clear excuses with the riderless horse causing havoc. His best is good enough so I am not penning him.
Race 4. (14:10) Robrick Lodge Filante Hcp 1600m
9 Point And Shoot (Bet Now: $SP.00) just has to run up to last Saturday and he’s the likely winner. Was terrible prior and was tardy away last Saturday in the Silver Eagle but really liked the way he finished his race off behind Linebacker. Tumbles to 52kg and needs to win to be any chance of getting into the Golden Eagle. Keen.
If 1 Victoria Road (Bet Now: $SP.00) is ready to go, he wins. He hasn’t raced since the 2023 Champions Mile behind Pride Of Jenni when last. Has clearly got the talent with elite overseas form and his extensive trial work to get ready has been strong. Market will be fascinating.
3 Jojo Was A Man (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run in the Alan Brown where he just found them too sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Headley Grange. Good track/distance record, upside, he’s a threat at odds.
Race 5. (14:45) Brian Crowley Stakes (L) 1200m
2 Grand Eagle (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Ryan/Alexiou and confident he takes beating here. He was held two weeks ago in the Roman Consul but given the race shape, he was never really a winning threat but did like the way he finished his race off in defeat. If the handbrake is off and he can get a positive steer, he’ll run a beauty.
1 Memo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented filly for Peter Snowden that has been freshened up since the Scarborough where she should have won but had zero luck in the straight in what was an ugly watch. Tick over trial was good. Just needs normal luck to be in the finish.
7 Skyglider (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. First up for Chris Waller after a debut win at Canterbury back in July when leading throughout and was strong to the line in getting the job done. First up at Stakes grade, but has trialled well, so watch betting.
Race 6. (15:20) Craven Plate 1800m
1 Lindermann (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a star for Chris Waller and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every possible chance. He did that in the Hill Stakes two weeks ago, getting complete front end control and he gave nothing else a look in to win impressively. He’ll land in front again and give his all.
3 Kovalica (Bet Now: $SP.00) was given a sore back by Tommy in the Hill Stakes I thought. Drew inside on a day where up/in was ideal, he somehow found himself quite wide on the turn while Lindermann was off and gone. He’s sneaky going well I think, he threatens.
5 Democracy Manifest (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hit and miss but is capable of an improved showing. He ran behind Headley Grange in the Alan Brown when off speed and just whacked in the run to the line. The rise to 1800m is fine, he’s a first four contender.
Race 7. (15:55) Callander-Presnell 1600m
1 Rivellino (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be winning this. He was patchy in the Caulfield Guineas but actually found the line well in defeat behind Autumn Boy. Wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Spring Champion but runs here instead, draws inside…hard to beat.
2 Ohope (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Michael Freedman and is one of the hardest to beat after his Tapp-Craig triumph, giving them a start and a beating in a very impressive performance. Bred to be a good horse and he looks to be going on with it now.
5 Fermoy (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Tapp-Craig. He was a bit off the pace and lost the plot in patches, failing to come on in a plain finale behind Ohope. He has the engine under the hood, so I am not dismissing him from exotics.
Race 8. (16:30) Spring Champion Stakes 2000m
I’ve been hot on 6 Federalist (Bet Now: $SP.00) for this race for months and am keen to see how he goes. He comes through the Dulcify from three weeks ago behind Attica where he was flat footed when the sprint went on but he picked up and was very good late in the piece. Kept up to the mark with a tick over trial, he’ll eat up 2000m and be strong late.
1 Attica (Bet Now: $SP.00) has that sense of timing to take beating here. Joe Pride has said the 2000m is the unknown but the change up speed he produced in the Dulcify was quite impressive, the way he put them away very quickly. I think if this does become a sit/sprint, he takes beating and is #1 seed.
4 Officiate (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in the mix. I thought he did a very good job in the Super Impose. He was there to win but wanted to lay in under pressure and half threw the race away. Think that form is solid, 2000m is no issue, maps well…he’s in the mix.
Race 9. (17:15) The Invitation 1400m
The bet for me has to be 12 Bauhinia (Bet Now: $SP.00). She should have been right in the finish in The Nivison but had no luck in the straight. Prior, ran well behind Idle Flyer, who could be a Group l horse in time, so the form is very strong IMO and I think she can measure up.
1 Stefi Magnetica (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Bjorn Baker, having not raced since Sep 13 when resuming in the Sheraco and was good from off speed when fourth to Manaal. Has been kept on the fresh side and her trial last week was a lovely piece of work.
3 Miss Roumbini (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been kept on the fresh side since the Rupert Clarke when off speed, spotting those in front a big start, but worked home very strongly late in the piece when second to Sepals. Was down to run in the Alan Brown but had an injury concern so was pulled out and instead runs here. Dangerous.
Race 10. (17:55) Five Diamonds Prelude 1500m
1 Transatlantic (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He is the class runner given he won the Toorak last time, showing true grit late to fend off Evaporate in a driving go to score. Maps perfect, in well at the weights being the last start Group l winner…straight bat play.
5 General Salute (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like he will be fine at 1500m. He comes through the Alan Brown from a fortnight back where you can make a case he fights the finish out but didn’t have the clearest of paths in the straight behind Headley Grange. If the trip is fine, which I think he will be, he can win.
3 Encap (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in the mix for Gary Portelli. He comes through the Epsom from three weeks back where the race shape wasn’t to his liking but he kept finding the line without threatening in a good effort in defeat behind Autumn Glow. If within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.
