A nine race card has been assembled for Sunshine Coast this Saturday, where the feature race is the Sunshine Coat Cup (1400m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Sunshine Coast Cup 🏆: View the Field for the Sunshine Coast Cup
Race 1. (13:23) COASTLINE BMW 1 SERIES Hcp 2200m
Just how good is 7 Torrens? (Bet Now: $3.30) Son of Adelaide for Ethan Ensby that is 3/3 and the big tick for him is that in both runs this time in, he has beaten the older horses. Latest win came over 2000m at Port Macquarie and just loved the way he attacked the line to get up and win. Harder here, but he’s on an upward spiral and stable is in super form.
1 Capital Gain (Bet Now: $3.40) gets one more chance due to the weak overall line up. He ran last Saturday at Eagle Farm and was most disappointing I thought in what was a winnable race, running fifth to Romakash. On his home track, senior jock on, thin depth, he gets his chance to win. Don’t think I could gamble on him doing it though.
2 Doukhan (Bet Now: $5.00) is a most interesting runner here. Kris Lees trains this warhorse, who hasn’t won in over two years, but this is one of the weaker races he has contested in some time. Late nomination for this race when the early noms were poor, so how forward he is with no public trial is unknown, but has these on toast re class.
Race 2. (13:58) COASTLINE BMW 3 SERIES Plate (c3) 1600m
4 Tunero (Bet Now: $1.95) is over a year between wins, but I think his time in the spotlight can be here. Hasn’t won in five races this time in for Chris Waller but has contested some strong races in Sydney, the latest over 1500m at Randwick when back in trip and closing off well without a great deal of luck behind Man Of Peace. His QLD form is lengths better than these. Hopefully he brings it.
12 Mill City (Bet Now: $8.50) makes her Queensland debut and she does bring some decent country NSW form next to her name. Last raced a few weeks ago at Muswellbrook when getting a good run just off the speed and trying hard, but was pipped near the peg. Gets gate one, does no work, down in the weights…likeable.
1 Galaxy Guru (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Captain Sonador for Paul Duncan who resumed behind Zoology over 1400m here just under two weeks ago and really liked the way he found the line late in the piece to run fifth. Think further than 1600m will suit him better, so perhaps short of his best here, but will be strong at the end.
Race 3. (14:33) COASTLINE BMW X7 2YO CLASSIC PLATE 1200m
Well just how good is 6 Queen Kay? (Bet Now: $1.90) This filly was well specked at odds when debuting in the Gold Pearl at the Gold Coast three weeks ago and while she didn’t beat a great deal, it was the manner in which she did it that impressed me. You’d like to think she’ll take really good improvement from that and up to 1200m, she’s hard to beat.
8 Cosmic Gossip (Bet Now: $7.50) is three weeks between runs for Stuart Kendrick since racing in the Gold Pearl at the Gold Coast where she was back near last in the run and never really a winning threat, but found the line well enough I thought behind Queen Kay. On her home track and up to 1200m are two big ticks for her.
2 Mishani Fraudster (Bet Now: $15.00) hasn’t had a great deal of luck in two career outings, so want to give him another chance. Saddle shifted significantly on debut in the Gold Nugget so a clear forgive there. He then raced here and again the saddle shifted when a tiring third over 1000m. Not sure he wins, but can’t totally dismiss him.
Race 4. (15:12) COASTLINE BMW Z4 (70) 1000m
10 Hollaback Girl (Bet Now: $4.60) on top for me. Tony Gollan trains this talented mare, who is first up, having not raced since November 2 at Eagle Farm when a close up sixth to Enterprise Louise, beaten a couple of lengths after sitting wide in the run. Can be a bit hit and miss, but has showed good ability when right and despite no public trials, I’m sure she’s had a jumpout or two in readiness for her return. Hopefully the market likes her.
8 Invincore (Bet Now: $5.50) is a progressive son of I Am Invincible for the Edmonds camp that steps up to Saturday company for the first time since his 2YO days. Last run saw him lead throughout at Murwillumbah and despite getting the staggers late, he clung on and was over three weeks between runs. Like him back to 1000m, lands near the speed and will try hard.
14 Yeahnah (Bet Now: $9.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Liam Birchley, this mare is now under the care of Team Edmonds. This girl is first up, having not raced since September 14 at Doomben when on speed over 1350m in a Mares race and just feeling the pinch late. Form around her does read well and has trialled up nicely leading in. Normally needs a run, but new stable, watch the market.
Race 5. (15:52) COASTLINE BMW X1 OPEN Hcp 1000m
It’ll be interesting to see what the market does with the Barry Lockwood trained 10 Adoradancer (Bet Now: $31.00). She’s certainly good enough to beat this despite being first up. Two trials, towards the end of December, were quite good, the latest behind a potential Group l horse in Vega One. Good record at the track/distance. Just want to see a market push.
1 Tarzan (Bet Now: $5.00) is the Sunshine Coast 1000m king and he’ll look the winner most of the way I’m sure. 1200m at a high level found him out at the Gold Coast in the Snippets, doing a power of work to find the front, getting the staggers early on in the straight to finish down the track behind Madam Rouge. Back to his pet track/distance, he’ll take some beating.
A dry track would be perfect for 8 Sharpe Hussler (Bet Now: $31.00) so hopefully for his case, the track does improve. Hasn’t raced since December 14 in the Lough Neagh when outclassed behind Deep Image. Fast run 1000m looks his bread and butter, which is what he gets here. Just depends how far back he gets in the run.
Race 6. (16:32) QTIS No Metro Wins Handicap 1200m
Think 7 Gracie Belle (Bet Now: $3.80) is one of the better bets on the program. Former North Queensland mare that had her first run for Matty Dunn at the Domben midweeks off the back of an outstanding trial and she lived up to the hype, heavily backed and she bolted in. Harder here, but I think the bigger track will only help and handle all conditions.
5 Winter Passage (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Stuart Kendrick trained mare that is flying and a good lead is that she was scratched from a much easier race last Sunday to be saved for this Saturday meeting. She has won her past two, the latest coming over 1200m at Doomben when just off the speed before angling into clear air and bursting away late. Think she’ll only run well.
6 Happy Hooves (Bet Now: $18.00) is a Tony Gollan trained gelding who is three weeks between runs since contesting the Provincial Final at Eagle Farm where he got back off the speed and worked home well to run third to impressive winner Love You Lucy. Has had the little freshen up between runs and is a winner at the Sunny Coast.
Race 7. (17:12) QTIS No Metro Wins Handicap 1200m
3 Coral Bay (Bet Now: $4.80) does tend to save his best for this track/distance so I will lean his way. Ran over the 1200m here back on January 5 and worked home strongly, just missing out on the big win when second to Red Doulton. Form out of that race has been quite good and the set up here does look ideal for him.
7 Ramtastic (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Kelly Schweida trained gelding that was outstanding in defeat last time out in the Magic Millions Country Cup, and what made the run better is the fact he came from near last on the turn and charged home to run fifth. Normally he sits on speed, so the fact he can take cover, based on last start, is a good sign and is hard to beat here.
Fascinating runner is 2 Grey Missile (Bet Now: $9.50), a former North Queenslander that is now with Team Edmonds. Hasn’t raced since December 14 in the Magic Millions Country Cup Qualifier at Townsville when wide throughout, clipped heels…just an ugly watch. Trialled well earlier this week at the Gold Coast so watch the market.
Race 8. (17:50) QTIS 3YO Handicap 1000m
5 Betaima (Bet Now: $4.80) for me. Quality filly for the Edmonds camp that resumes, having not raced since August 3 at Doomben when down the track behind Magic Trick. Been given a good, long spell, and have really liked the way she has trialled leading in, the latest coming last week when spanking them and running time.
7 Champagne Jet (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Team Edmonds trained daughter of Jet Spur that is first up. This three year old last raced in early August and was okay in defeat behind a horse that goes alright in the name of Alligator Blood. Probably could have trialled a touch better for her return, but has quality, so watch the market and see what it does.
4 Magic Trick (Bet Now: $9.50) is a son of Top Echelon for the Sears camp at Toowoomba that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since October 12 at Eagle Farm when down the track and a tired horse it seemed behind Howwonderfullifeis. Can sprint well fresh and usually stable has them forward enough first up, so he’s a market/yard watch.
Race 9. (18:30) SUNSHINE COAST CUP 1400m
Up to 1400m, pretty keen here on the Steve O’Dea trained 11 Scallopini (Bet Now: $7.00). Liked the way he resumed first up in the Falvelon behind Isaurian, working home well late. That is why I was surprised they stayed at 1200m in the Snippets but again, he finished his race off nicely. 1400m on the big track, third up, he looks the pony to bet on.
3 Tyzone (Bet Now: $6.00) hasn’t won in a little while but convinced the Edmonds camp have this horse going well. Just ran out of steam first up in the Lough Neagh behind Deep Image before finishing a solid third to that horse again, this time in the Buffering. Think a rise to 1400m will really suit this guy and the firmer the better for him re track.
Been waiting for 19 Lim’s Lightning (Bet Now: $23.00) to get up to 1400m and finally he gets to that trip here. Ran over 1200m last Saturday at Eagle Farm where he did plenty of early work to get on speed and I thought he stuck on pretty well in defeat when fifth to Pennino. Crying out for further, and with a more conservative steer, I think he can run a big race at odds.
Race 10. (19:05) QTIS 3YO Handicap 1600m
6 Badoosh (Bet Now: $10.00) is racing as if 1600m will suit him. He was good without luck in a 1300m Highway at Randwick two back and was an emergency for the Magic Millions Guineas but couldn’t get a start so instead they went to 1350m at Doomben and he was one of the runs of the day from the back off a slow speed. Up to the mile looks ideal and has upside to come.
Back up to 1600m and against his own age, 1 Ziemba (Bet Now: $4.00) is likeable here for the in form Rob Heathcoate team. He ran over 1500m at Eagle Farm four weeks ago when near the speed and doing a bit of work in the run. Tried hard, but didn’t have the change up speed with Great Powers. Like him back up to the mile and should take a power of beating.
Back to 1600m should suit the Desleigh Forster trained 8 Kim Alicia (Bet Now: $8.00), who is three weeks between runs since contesting the Wave at the Gold Coast over 1800m where she was held and far from disgraced behind A Man To Match, with Etana franking that form seven days later. Back to her own age and back to a more suitable trip, she can improve big time.
