24/9/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Moonee Valley, Moir Stakes night

The Moonee Valley night racing season gets underway this Friday night where it is Moir Stakes Night. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

I’m with 7 Prowling (Bet Now: $4.50) in the opener. Greg Eurell trained three year old that comes to town off the back of a dominant maiden win on his home track at Cranbourne, getting the suck run behind the speed and though took a little while to get into his work, once clear, he surged and was strong late in drawing clear. Confident he measures up.

Ability wise, 2 Port Louis (Bet Now: $4.40) is the best horse in the race. Just a question of how forward he is and where he gets to in the run from the wide draw. He resumes for the Maher/Eustace camp and has claims to be the best maiden horse in Australia. From the wide gate, likely has to ease back, but will be charging at the end.

10 Hardware Lane (Bet Now: $16.00) has to rise a fair bit in grade/depth but Mitch Beer looks to have a smart three year old on his hands. Not sure he beat a great deal at Albury first up but he made a mess of them from the front in a dominant display of sustained speed. He’ll land near the speed and run an honest race.

Think it’ll be a case of jump and run with 9 Lombardo (Bet Now: $2.60). Those tactics were adopted at Morphettville last time out and gave them an absolute spanking in a brilliant performance of sustained speed. Gets right down in the weights after the claim, draws soft, should lead and give them something to chase.

5 Jumbo Ozaki (Bet Now: $9.00) is the map horse. Blinkers first time for this Danny O’Brien runner and slowly, the stable is starting to find form. This guy hasn’t raced for a few weeks since a solid effort at Caulfield in a fast run race won by talented galloper Elephant. He’ll stalk Lombardo and get last look.

8 Ocular (Bet Now: $14.00) is another that gets Blinkers first time and can be a first four threat. Forgive the last start effort at Swan Hill. He was just run off his legs and got warm late behind Rainbiel. Similar style race here on the cards, but hopefully the Blinkers can sharpen him up.

I’m a fan of 6 Prince Alexander (Bet Now: $6.00) and I think he can measure up here. Did work in the run at Sandown last time but he was still trucking and when the button was pushed, he showed good change up speed and was impressive. Trails the speed here, has run well here previously…happy to be in his corner.

Three weeks between runs I do like for the Team Hayes galloper 4 Sandy Prince (Bet Now: $3.60). He copped heat in front at the Valley last time but despite that, fended them off and looked home when he booted clear, only to be nabbed late by Forgot You. Up to the mile, potentially a soft lead, he’ll take beating.

2 Daily Bugle (Bet Now: $20.00) should be suited up to the mile for the Griffiths/De Kock team. Forgive his last start effort at Flemington behind Mr Mozart when wide no cover. Gets a much better run this time around so an improved showing is on the cards with a rise in trip.

Back around a bend, want to give 6 Seradess (Bet Now: $5.50) another chance. Resumed down the straight at Flemington and she looked drunk when close up behind Crystal Bound. The race rated poorly, so that’s the knock, but she showed really good talent as a juvenile so banking on that being produced here.

5 Larkspur Run (Bet Now: $3.50) has the Zouzarella form, which is becoming the strongest form line for the 3YO fillies in Melbourne. Ran over this track/distance last start in the Atlantic Jewel and was good late from the back when second to Zouzarella. Can sit closer in the run and the depth is nowhere near as strong.

9 Decent Raine (Bet Now: $12.00) should be around the mark for the Maher/Eustace camp. Ran over 1000m last time out at Sandown where she got back nearer the inside but finished off her race strongly when a close up fourth to Darceandermill. Hard fit and racing well, so commands respect.

7 Destination (Bet Now: $6.00) is four weeks between runs for James Cummings since racing over 1100m at Caulfield. He was on speed throughout and on the turn looked in a bit of trouble but balanced up in the straight and surged, just missing out on the win when second to He’s A Balter. He’ll take beating here I’d suggest.

6 Curran (Bet Now: $2.70) is a talented four year old that resumes. This guy did a good job during the Winter, winning on a couple of occasions before a game fifth in the Creswick down the straight at Flemington. Thought his trial behind Brooklyn Hustle was a good piece of work and is hard to beat from the draw.

10 Aquagirl (Bet Now: $17.00) can be dangerous if she uses gate one to advantage. Phillip Stokes trained mare that can be hit and miss but her best is certainly good enough to be around the mark. Good record at the track and has early speed, which is an ideal recipe for this track.

Happy to speck 6 Inverloch (Bet Now: $9.00) each way. This horse does his best racing when in front and controlling things and that is the set up he seemingly will get here, plus has a gun front running hoop in Linda Meech. Led and tired late at Wyong last time. Better suited here and I think can run a bold race.

11 Djukon… (Bet Now: $15.00) really? Djukon? What was that from him first up at the Valley? With the greatest respect, he has done zero in Australia, but first up at the Valley, clear air and he wins comfortably instead of a luckless fifth to Don’t Doubt Dory. Any hint of that produced here, he’ll take beating.

12 Eperdument (Bet Now: $126.00) is getting towards peak fitness and stepping up in trip, I think she’s worth including at big odds. Was on her back last Wednesday in the Balaklava Cup where she was never a factor, but the last 50m and through the line, she was pretty good I thought. Better suited at this trip and one I could include in multiples.

If ever 2 Wild Ruler (Bet Now: $7.50) is going to win a big race, this is it. 1000m/1100m is his go in life and this just sets up perfect for him. Sat behind Nature Strip in the Concorde and battled on well, albeit no match for the gun sprinter. Lands in a plum spot from the draw and will take beating.

I think 1 Trekking (Bet Now: $11.00) is certainly going well enough to be dangerous here. He resumed behind Nature Strip in the Concorde and though was never a threat, his finale was more than sound. Very good record at this track, does no work from the gate and will be strong at the end.

If they overdo it in front, 7 Brooklyn Hustle (Bet Now: $18.00) can certainly finish over the top. Track specialist that resumes after a successful prep in Adelaide/Brisbane where she won at blacktype level. This looks a real target race fresh for this mare and she has trialled Well to get ready.

She might need one more 8 Only Words (Bet Now: $4.80), but I think she has returned pretty well. On paper, the resumption in the Let’s Elope was plain, but looking at the replay, she should have finished closer, only really getting warm late. Gets a rise in trip, and with Williams steering, I think she can threaten with a positive steer.

I think this run will tell us if 12 Butter Chicken (Bet Now: $8.00) is a contender or pretender. Resumed in the Lets Elope at Flemington and was good late albeit never a threat to Turaath. Much better suited here distance wise. A query will be how will she around the Valle given she seems to be a big track horse.

11 Impecunious (Bet Now: $11.00) should be suited up to the mile for the Busuttin/Young camp. Bit disappointing fresh at Sandown I thought before going to the Let’s Elope where she was never a winning factor but was okay late behind Turaath. Gets to a suitable trip, hard fit and stable in form.
